the scholarship's rules were too specific, i didn't like it. i realized that all my dates said 2007, so i doubt ill get it

what do you mean all of your dates said 2007?

Yeah, the rules were really specific. It was a super involved scholarship and I'm going to feel pretty disappointed if I don't advance to the next level. So much work!

does anyone know when we hear from them...also...can people say where they are from and what lodge number...i am from middle tennessee lodge # 72...im just curious if any one apply in my area...thanks..

I was told to just give my application to the bartender, so no one signed the part at the bottom.

Am I just paranoid or would it be an okay idea to call tomorrow to make sure they got the application and everything is okay? Could this potentially hurt me?

i gave mine to the bartender too. apparently he was like the secretary or something, and was going to make sure the chairperson got it.

i'm not too worried that nobody signed the part at the bottom, because it looked like in order to sign it they'd have to look over the app pretty closely, and i dont think they'd have time to do that whenever someone dropped it off right then and there.

a bartender?? what im confused

Don't worry about it. Different lodges just had different people they preferred you give it to. And they told me to give my application to the bartender, who was later supposed to give it to the secretary.

Ok, so I go to school in Georgia, but since we had to give the application to the lodge closest to our home address, I overnighted my application on WEDNESDAY in order to arrive by Friday. But because my life sucks, it ends up that the address I was given was their physical address, and not their proper mailing address. I called the lady at the lodge this morning (very nice lady), and they have apparently not received a thing. She said something about a "scholarship lady" being at the lodge this morning, and that they had nothing to give to them, and I am just distraught and don't know what to do. Do I, I dunno, sue the post office for not properly overnighting the package I paid freaking $19.50 for, or should I call and explain to the elks foundation? What's the ultimate deadline for Elk's lodges to submit their winners?

Never mind, problem solved! Apparently it DID make it to the proper address, but the Elk's Lodge isn't open on Fridays (which was a risk on my own part I should've taken into account), but luckily the Exalted Ruler (??) was at the office and knew the proper person to give it to and everything. And by the looks of it, it seems like I was the only student in my area to submit the application.

All is well!

hanstar, which GA lodge if I may ask? D was going to do it, but after completing Gates, she was burned out.

Oh, I guess I didn't clarify, I go to school in Georgia (Calhoun, specifically), but my home residence is in Avon Park, FL, so I had to overnight the mail down to Florida so that it would arrive on time (specifically, Sebring Lodge 1529)

Thanks for clarification hanstar, now D won't feel so bad that she opted out.

We live in NW Oklahoma. I think Exhibits were the most difficult part of the ap because there were no specific directions regarding them. My D worked at a wildlife refuge for two summers, so we included some information about that too. Other than newspaper articles, and the CD, did anyone else include other information? Just wondering??? I know the exhibits were only worth 5 points, but I am hoping the Exhibits showed the judges much more about my D's accomplishments, etc.

I wonder if the exhibits will help the application with more than just the 5 points by making the application seem more sincere, etc.

I included four articles I've written for four different publications, a news article about being a state champion in speech, a couple certificates, and a short story I wrote. I'm not sure if I did this write, but oh well.

I called my local lodge right now, and they said they don't give local scholarships :(. Boo, I should have given it to another lodge.

I hope people will post results when notified. =)

I just found this information on the Elks Website. Good luck to everyone!!!

Who will score my application?
Applications must advance through local, district, and state competitions to reach the national competition. If you do not receive a written response three weeks after the following deadline dates, contact the appropriate person for that level. (i.e. Lodge, District or State Scholarship Chairperson).
