ag54 -- no increase in college mail coming in. In fact, it has dropped off recently. I suppose many colleges are waiting to see PSAT scores before they start the next tidal wave of mail. It will probably start late this month.
We haven't received scores here.

ellemenope -- I hadn't even thought about the district having them... I think I'll make a call today.

Thanks! I was starting to worry that other kids were getting deluged with mail (at least that was the impression I got from some other posts).

My son felt like he nailed it, so will be very disappointed if he did poorly. I'm ready to storm the building to get the darn scores so we can stop obsessing over it.

Does anyone know why some schools seem to guard these scores? Is there a way to circumvent the system? Many parents/kids could care less but some of us really need the information in order to make travel plans, etc.

ag54 - my child got 240 and 2400 (Oct SAT), but no college mail lately. I asked him if he check the box, he said yes. (Maybe he did not since he is often absentminded.) So - my point is do not worry.

I think it's because the college board recommends not distributing them until they can hold a meeting to explain the scores to the parents/students. Most schools don't think Dec. is a good time for such a meeting, so they hold them. But if your student is trying to get the SATs done junior year, it's better to have the results sooner rather than later.

Wow Nononsense - can your child spare some points? ;)

That is awesome!!

My son is planning on taking the SAT in January, but I don't want to have to wait until then for the score report. He did take the PSAT last year, so can't we access the 2008 score report online in mid-December?

i think i need an intervention!!!!. obsessing over recalculating son's sophomore scores to see if this year he just gets one more right in this section or 2 more right on that section... searching psat cutoffs from previous years .... did he study or did he wing it, ....will NMF really make a difference.... does commended look good....
as much as i love this site sometimes i think it drives me crazy! i'm so proud of my son's accomplishments and scores etc and then... oh wait maybe he should apply for this or add this EC i just read about. LOL.
is there a thread for "calm down mom"?

No scores yet for us, either. Son's school only holds home room on Wednesdays and that's where he'd receive his scores.

As a sophomore, I'm positive he got them before Christmas. If they stick with that pattern December 10th and 17th are his only chances. And since interims are scheduled for the 17th, I have to wonder whether or not they'd do PSAT scores same day.

Ugh. I need to stop over-thinking this. It is what it is.

We don't get scores until the day before Christmas break, guess they want to reduce the discussion and comparisons.

This year the PSAT is mandatory for sophomores and the state is paying for the test. Funny thing is, my soph D is receiving letters of interest already! All from regional private schools so far. Guess they don't check what year the kid is when they send out the mass mailings.

is there a thread for "calm down mom"?>>

Yes. It is called the politics and election subforum, where you argue and scream about politics, thereby distracting you from your more immediate and personal anxieties about your kids and college. Can be very calming.

om,
That is strange; how can they make it mandatory but not pay for everybody?? Our juniors did have to pay themselves as usual.

I was actually relieved to hear that all sophomores would be taking the test as I'd planned to have my D take it for practice anyway and knew that she'd throw a fit because "her friends weren't doing it" ;).

A few years ago, when we were waiting for my daughter's scores (school distributed them in late January), she received a postcard from Skidmore that said "FAIL" in huge letters on the front. (Skidmore used to have an unusual postcard campaign that used odd words to promote themselves). For weeks we were worried that they knew something we didn't or whether it was just poor timing. It was poor timing.

Wow, this thread has been busy since I last checked in. Just wanted to add that if your child's score was not that impressive soph year, don't worry. My D's went up 27 points - the big difference being in math (I think she went from a 63 to an 80). Mathmom, completing Math B made a huge difference for her, so I hope it did the same for your S.

Good luck to everyone waiting for scores, and good luck to those of us who have kids taking SAT/SAT IIs tomorrow (including my D).

son's score last year (soph=200) would have been in commended range. CR brought him down.In math and writing he has little room for improvement ie 2 wrong. personally i wish he had more room to improve in math as math and science are his strong areas. alabama cutoffs have ranged from 212 a few years ago to 209 last year. my worry is if he doesnt improve on cr there isnt much room to get in that nmsf range. but i'll cross my fingers for a 27 point jump too(congrats to your d on that improvement)

Can I just say that I am disappointed in the Class of 2010. Last year, someone found a workaround (sounds so much nicer than glitch or hack!) on the College Board website, and cc'ers were able to get scores in December. That's how I got S's score (as a sophomore) weeks before everyone else at his school. Isn't there some kid out there who can figure it out again? Maybe nononsense's child can use his powers for evil instead of good? :D
