2008 Transfers - Accepted & Going!

Hey all, there doesn't seem to be a cohesive thread for incoming transfers about the enrollment process (i.e. UNIs, housing, course registration, etc.). So, without further ado, let the discourse begin!

Brief intro - I'm a dude transferring from the South. I like writing, I train in Brazilian jiu-jitsu/MMA, and I'm currently working in a BB investment bank abroad.

Anybody receive anything from Columbia aside from crappy financial aid and housing information? They were kind with the credit evaluations though. What did everyone choose for housing? On-campus/off-campus?

So stoked about seeing you all in a few short months. Feel free to introduce yourselves and posit any questions here!

still no UNI, but i applied for housing etc. i preffed singles on campus in the quad area, id love to have my own room after being in a quad last year. spoke to an academic adviser, we should get something in the mail in mid-june about placing out of certain classes, some paperwork, etc. i expect we get UNIs then too. i want to change my facebook network already haha.

I'm with you man; I think it makes the most sense for transfers to live right on campus in the quad area. I don't have much of a preference for singles or doubles, though. Thanks for the heads up about mid-June, it's good to have a time frame in line. And I'm definitely ready to change my facebook network hah

Lol, you can transfer colleges/countries but you can't escape facebook.

And the quad singles are mostly already taken. i did some calls before choosing and only a few buildings are already full. And since they like to group transfers together somewhat, it may not be too on-campus. But a single in Hartley would indeed be awesome.

I'm curious, how many credits did you guys get in the evaluation and what's your arriving standing (sophomore/junior)? I know that you can petition for some classes to count as core reqs. but for the life of me, I don't know how...

im entering as a sophomore. all 30 credits from my freshman year are transferring over, as well as 13 credits from APs.

when and to whom do we send our final transcripts, btw?

I sent my final transcripts to the admissions office, not sure if they received it yet though.

I'm getting 27 credits from my freshman year and I have not sent in my AP scores - should get around to doing that soon.

casey, I'm entering as a sophomore as well but it says that I'm coming in as a 3rd term sophomore. What in the world does that mean? Did you get the same thing?

Means you're entering at the same status as people who have completed their freshman year (first two semesters) there. You should follow the '3rd semester sophomore' section of the transfer guide to make your schedule and see which courses you should take and when.

Thanks man. What are you coming in as?

the UNIs are online if you have already enrolled. just search for your name in the directory. (then you can join the FB network..hah)

I can't seem to find mine even though i confirmed like the day after I got my decision...Where did you look for it Casey?

https://directory.columbia.edu/people/

search your name.

That's where I looked....Nope, no results. Well. There goes my sleep tonight.

Nice. Good looks on that.

Casey, when did you confirm your enrollment?
I can't seem to find mine either. I sent in the deposit two days after I got my decision.

Same thing for me mordern. Two days on the dot. I was gonna give them a call tomorrow just to see if its normal (now that I've heard about you I have a feeling they may just be doing it on a rolling basis). I'll post my 'findings' on this thread after. :)

if we found out thursday, i sent in my deposit online that friday or saturday.

Were any of you able to finish the housing/dining application now that the UNIs are out? I pull up the SSOL site and log-in, but there's basically blank screen. Weird.

The only thing missing was the dining section right? Which is optional for non-freshmen so i don't think we have anything to complete there. Besides it says that until we get the housing decisions, and sign the contract, the status will still be incomplete.

yeah the SSOL for dining options is a weird blank page. we can sign up for a meal plan in august if we want one so its not a concern i dont think.
