USC Admitted Transfer Students 2008

Hey, no disrespect to my friends over on the USC Transfer 08 Thread, but I needed to start a new one for people who are admitted and wondering what the next steps are.

First off:
Is anyone attending the Transfer Orientation Sessions? They are on July 1st and July 15th at USC. Kind of rediculous to schedule a tuesday but I guess the freshman get all the weekends. I am from an out of state college and it would cost a lot to attend a simple one day session, so I'm borderline.

Second:
I applied for housing and was told they make decisions regarding this in early june, so we can hope to hear back by then.

Any other information or socializing? I'm not sure if this thread will succeed but I thought I'd give it a shot

Hey TJ,

First off, congratulations! I was accepted on 5-6-08 (very lucky to find out that early, I know), as a Music Industry (B.S.) major at Thornton and to answer a few of your questions...

Yeah, I plan to go to the orientation on 7-1-08. It's pricey, but it seems like it's going to be worth it.

The housing thing I applied for, as well, although that's the first I've heard of assignments being ready that early. I've usually been hearing late July/early August, so that's refreshing to hear. Hopefully I'll be able to get something on campus or, at the very least, right across the street.

Should be an interesting year!

Hey guys, congrats on getting accepted. Cheers to us ... and nice work making a new thread TJ, the other one was starting to become wayyy too long to keep up with.

I too am from out of state (I'm actually on the East Coast), and with my summer internship and all, I'm not going to be able to make it to LA for just one day in the middle of the week =/. After speaking to a couple USC advisers, they told me that the orientation isn't mandatory, but definitely recommended. The most important part is academic advisement, which is a perquisite for registering for classes. If you can't make orientation, you'll have to sign up for classes the week before school. The problem with this is that many of the popular classes (esp the popular Gen Ed courses) will be filled. But I guess if you can't make, you can't make it (as is my situation).

As for housing, I believe I submitted my USC housing application on 4/21/08 (accepted on 4/17/08). The sooner we hear the better. It sucks that transfers are put at the end of the list for housing spots. I really need to be on campus (unlikely) or very close to it (like Cardinal Gardens, Century, or Troy Hall/East), because my parents are going to flip if I end up at a place in the "ghetto."

Hey guys, congrats to you all. Hopefully I'll be able to join you soon. :]

Please post your stats in this thread, if you can/want. Just think how much easier it will be for people to quickly scan stats without going through that old 370+ page thread. Thanks!

Out of state, Chicago Private University
3.72 Econ Honors Major
Tons of ECs
2.9 HS GPA
about 60 credits

Relient, I didn't know about a mandatory academic advising. That's too bad, I'm going to go to school early anyway, (pending the housing, which I applied all off campus, transfer housing stuff, like cardinal and century) to possibly join the marching band. I really want to go to orientation but it costs so much.

Hey guys. SCA Production program.
So, I will probably be registering for the july 1st orientation, I want to get my classes reg. before everything fills up.

Hey guys, did any other Viterbi acceptances get an email inviting them to join the W.V.T. Rusch Engineering Honors Program? I got one today, and I'm thinking about doing it.

HI!!! I just found out on June 1st, I got accepted to the B.Arch program :)

I started looking at housing...but I already did the dorms when I was at SDSU, anyone heard how the housing is that is NOT USC owned/the neighborhoods?

Congrats everyone

If I wasn't going to live on campus, there is no way I'd live downtown near the university. It's too sketchy. I'd rather commute from Santa Monica or the South Bay. So I'm really really hoping to get housing.

Hey guys I also applied for housing 2 weeks ago, but the thing that sucks about the program is finding a roommate. The questionnaire given to us was really simple, so it is really hard to get a picture of the people on the roommate auto search. Does anyone want to get this thing over with and find a roommate so we can get a secure spot for housing? I feel really frustrated but that must be my excitement for starting USC.

Also, what happens after 7 days of paying your commitment deposit? Do you get an e-mail with further instructions on how to register for orientation/how to get your e-mail address?

So housing just called me, and they said they'd let us know who applied next week :) Woo!! I hope I get Parkside!!

Thanks a la idioteque!
I hope I get a spot... anywhere. -_- :D :)

WOT - you know the 5 preferences you're supposed to put down? If all of those are unavailable, will they just offer you a spot anywhere?

a la idioteque- yes, they will give you a spot wherever is available... they'll try to guess where you will want to be based on your first five preferences.

Also, does anyone know the status of merit scholarships? I saw a couple people talking abt it on the main transfer thread. Did anyone get any award money yet or know when they will start to give out merit money?

btw, Congrats WOT, you really deserved it.

RelientK- Thanks. :) About the housing-Really? They give us whatever is available? Awesome. I didn't know that. I was actually gonna call to ask what's open and change my preference to that. So I shoudn't worry about it then? I'm trying to get A spot at this point bc I really, REALLY wanna live there and not bomb my first semester, lol. Do I get placed any sooner if I request a roommate? I hope so

just wanted to re-ask a la idioteque's question

Does anyone know how they notify you after your enrollment deposit goes through as far as next steps etc. Is it by mail or email and about how long does it take? (I know it says 7 business days but their time estimates are almost always off for everything)

I can't say anything for anyone else, but for me, it took about 5 days after I mailed in my deposit before USC started going nuts mailing stuff to my house. As soon as your payment is confirmed, you'll start getting all kinds of stuff from STAR reports to financial aid instructions and etc.

WOT- np, and yea that's what I was told when I spoke to USC housing on the phone... They will put you somewhere even if it's not one of your first five choices. I submitted my housing application on 4/18 ... pretty much right after I got accepted ... so I really hope I get a place on or very close to campus.

Solomonm- you should get an auto-confirmation right after sending in your enrollment deposit. And yes, I too received a load of stuff in the mail after sending in my enrollment deposit.

Thanks. Yeah I submitted my deposit Sunday and haven't got an email from them yet but I got the Financial Aid package today. Sweet. I <3 <3 <3 USC.
