Hi this post is more geared towards current undergraduates and beyond:

I'm registered with a group of 6 (all rising seniors including me) with hopes of getting an East Campus townhouse. Unfortunately, the lottery numbers just came out today and ours was really bad: 2690 bad.

I was just wondering whether anyone here knows how difficult it is to get into a 6-person townhouse or what good alternatives are.

You can look at the numbers, if you're talking a Townhouse with all singles, last year the cutoff was 30/2186. That seems about average for recent years.

There are 28 such townhouses, there are also 12 townhouses that have one double in them if two people in your group are willing to do that.

Other 6-person suites:
7 EC Highrise suites (a good option if you're set on EC I suppose)
1 first floor 47 Claremont suites
2 first floor Ruggles suites

If not, you can try for Senior Regroup (Housing : Senior Regroup Rule)
Or, you can also drop to general and try to get everyone along a corridor or something in like River. That's sort of a ****ty option when you have a low number though.

I hope this was at least a little helpful, and if I'm wrong someone please correct me.

From what I've seen on the ranking list there are quite a few 6-person senior groups this year, but it's not impossible for you to get in since these things are so unpredictable. Good luck!

You won't get a highrise. You probably won't even get a 6 person suite with that number although I am not going to count the number of 6 person groups in front of you so I may be wrong.

^^very good analysis and advice (by arashi)

....six person groups will most likely pick a 6 person suite....a 6 person group at the very top MIGHT drop to general to pick watt for instance but that's highly unlikely....people who form 6 person groups tend to be gunning for a nice suite so they can live together

so that being said you should count the groups ahead of you as has been said and count the number of suites and see what might be left

i thankfully didn't have to go to senior regroup (my group was like the 3rd 5-person group to pick) so i don't know how that usually goes...but if after counting it looks like you'll have to go through that then try to make some predictions on what will happen so you can go in prepared.

if you drop down to general from what i remember you'd probably get a small broadway single or a big schapiro single on a lower floor

Hanajima's advice is solid - you need to decide whether two of your people in the group are willing to sign up for a double.

Mind you, as soon as the ink is dry on the contracts, the people in the double can request a summer transfer somewhere else (or can stick it out with you). But the point is that the odds of a 4S/1D EC 6-person suite are fairly high - they've made it to senior regroup the last few years.

If you for some reason don't get a 4S/1D, go to senior regroup and do the best you can.

Thanks for the great advice, everyone! There are 35 suites available and my number puts my group at 36th to pick. At this point, we'll probably have to settle for a 4-single / 1 double.

yeah, 35 suites, but 7 go to RAs if i'm not mistaken. or is 35 the number net of RAs? I can never remember. and i'm too lazy to go look it up in my database from college :)
