Sophomore Housing Lottery

I know for juniors, it will be pretty easy to get whatever housing they want but for sophomores -- what are the chances of getting suites at Sutherland or Panther Hall? Son has a fairly low number so he will be picking on the first day for sophomores.

I'm also curious. My roommate has #269 and even though its a good number, we were wondering what the chances of getting a double in Brackenridge (first choice) or a suite in McCormick. If anyone could help ease our worries, it'd be greatly appreciated :D

And yes, I probably spelled the dorms wrong, but I'm too lazy to look it up xD

I think rising sophomores with good numbers usually do very well. My daughter's friends last year were in that position, and they got a very nice suite in a sought-after building.

How did you find out your number?

We got our housing packet in our school mailboxes and they included the number inside.

Is McCormick or Brackenridge air-conditioned? They are a great choice for those who don't want to stay in Towers and still be in the center of things.

Wondering about this too - my D who will be a sophmore next year wants to live in a four person suite in Panther or PA Hall (I forget which one has four person suites). Their lowest lottery number is in the 1800's. Chances they'll get their first pick? She ended up in her last choice this year - so hoping she gets her first choice next year.

Also, when are housing deposits due and did you receive an invoice yet? Thanks!

Housing deposit is due in early February (around the 13th I think). Everything is done online. They log onto their account and go to communities, Panther Central and there is a link for paying the deposit. Make sure the deposit is paid by the date due or else you lose the housing guarantee!!!! The students received all the information in their packet.

If there is a link for paying the deposit, where does the money come out of? A student's checking account? Or can a parent pay it? I think in previous years the student had to pay it.

Also, in past years kids on full scholarships didn't have to pay the deposit. I wonder if it's the same this year. Pitt is putting more functions online (which is great), but that means changes in procedures from year to year.

I think you can pay via echeck or cc. Also you can print out the housing forms (they are online) and probably hand it in with a check at Panther Central.

I just re-read the housing guide and yes, full scholarships can get a waiver for the housing deposit. You need to get a form from Panther Central and verification of your scholarship status. If the deposit money is not an issue, I would just pay it as they do deduct it from what you owe. Frankly, it is difficult enough to get the child to submit the application/deposit on time never mind having him go get another form to fill out for this waiver.

Thank you so much for the info!

Bleh, my number was in the 3,500s... luckily, I decided to live in an LLC so I got to pick my dorm/room yesterday-hooray for loopholes! Oh, and yes, the deposit ($325) is due (online) by February 13th.

Same. I got Panther through LLC, except that I'm a freshman.

Are you an incoming freshman? If so, I am surprised you got your housing assignment already. Or did you mean you were a rising sophomore?

For the LLC, are you just choosing a room/bed within the LLC floor and your roommate will be assigned if you didn't have a friend who wanted to live in the same LLC?

Are there any places to eat late (after 11pm) on upper campus?

It doesn't look like it!
