2009 -- List -- How Many Schools did I (or child) audition for?

13 (a mix of MT and straight theatre)

D did 5 (well one audition is still to come in March). She was originally scheduled to do 7 but cancelled 2 auditions after an early acceptance and realizing that 2 of the schools were really not a good fit.

I originally scheduled 10 auditions... but then cancelled 3 after an early acceptance as well. So a total of 7 auditions.

completed 11 - all but two straight acting, and cancelled one that she decided she wouldn't want to attend.

My D did 8 - all straight acting, but in two, was asked to sing. In one, we knew she would be asked to sing; the other was a complete surprise.

She applied to a total of 10 (2 non-addition.)

7 down, 3 to go. I can't WAIT for it to be over!

I did 10 auditions, all for MT. I'm glad I did so many. I seemed to get more comfortable after I had done 3 or 4, and my auditions went better as they went on!

D 6 down 2 to go (mix of MT & acting)

D has 7 down, one more to go tomorrow AM at Ithaca, all MT. And of course throw in her high school play auditions (the crucible), and the School Musical(Beauty and the Beast) auditions and callbacks this week... All of this in the last 4 weeks..lol

One busy month... now we sit back and wait for the letters to roll in over the next few weeks... nail biting time.

Wow! Congrats to all of you that have done all that auditioning this year! Best of luck to you as you wait eagerly for your letters in the mail! :)

Son has had 5 auditions, 1 to go. All for BFA acting. All less than 300 miles from home but....we are only an hour and a half from NYC. :-)

One rejection, one acceptance to a college with full merit scholarship but it depends on the audition.

Pins and needles!!

9 bfa and 1 ba/minor mt. My d. only auditioned for so many schools after I read all the advice on this forum. I'd have to say, after going through the process, I'm glad we listened. There is such great talent out there - and most auditioning are females. You may be able to get away with a smaller # if you are a male. If your new to this process, my best advice is to take some time and read through each of these threads. These parents have all been through it and have great advice!

My son auditioned for two only. And it is harder for girls. If you don't get into one of the top school's on your list does not guarantee you are not going to make it into the business, just as if you are accepted you are not guarenteed you are going to make it. If you have talent you will shine anywhere! Just go to school and have fun perfecting your craft! This is a very exciting time enjoy it!!

My D auditioned for 6 in person and 1 video, with 2 more videos to go. All for MT.

10 BFA Acting programs, 9 auditions done, 1 to go!

Da did 6 auditions a the LA Unifieds plus two more on campuses and one regional. Nine so far. We are thinking of her doing one more but now have heard back from two schools that will take her (one in BFA MT, one BA Theater, and Columbia Chicago as a backup with no audition for freshmen). It's hard to wait but she certainly enjoyed her audition experiences and it has been a great if sometimes stressful process. We started out with no clue about how this would work and have learned so much! I think she's happy now just to have a lead role in a local musical to work on for the next few months - and she'll be too busy with that to spend too much time being concerned about hearing from colleges - what will be will be at this point. She met some wonderful professors / auditors on the way and also some nice kids. I think her confidence grew with the national exposure (as opposed to auditioning just in our city) - knowing you can compete well whatever the outcome is very affirming. I have appreciated this forum - really helped me understand how to help her.

I forgot the video!

completed 11 - all but two straight acting, and cancelled one that she decided she wouldn't want to attend -- plus on video

Just as a heads up for anyone doing research and is reading this thread as a guideline, or who has a son.

Even if less boys apply overall, be aware that the competition is still there. Especially when applying to highly competitive schools. Over the years we have seen a lot of very talented boys get rejected. There are only so many spots, even for boys. Moral of my story? Don't put all your eggs in just one or two baskets. While the average for a girl seems to be 8 - 10 a boy should probably still apply/audition for at least 6 - 8 schools.

Remember, it is also nice to be able to compare scholarships & financial packages, once you receive more than one acceptance :D.

Great advice, MTGrlsmom.

This site has been such a help to my family. Thanks to all. My D auditioned for 10 MT programs and 5 vocal performance programs. She and I had a fun month in February but are glad it is over. I was her accompanist for her VP auditions so I was feeling some extra pressure not to blow it! She and I both came through fine.
