2009 PSAT scores (Class of 2011)

229 in NJ
80 W
75 M
74 CR

My D got 222. CT. I believe last 2 years the CT cut off has been 218 so we’re thrilled as this gives a hopefully comfortable margin for 2010 cut off.

North Carolina: 214

The cut off in 06 was 214
The cut off in 07 was 215
The cut off in 08 was 214
The cut off in 09 will be… ???

I am praying that the pattern does not perpetuate. It would really suck if I missed the score by 1 point. But really, I felt this years was much easier than prior years (I took it freshman and sophomore year as well getting a 168 and 184 respectively… growth, I guess?).

What bothers me is that every problem I missed (except for one) was an “easy” one caused by a ridiculously stupid mistake. I mean, I somehow devised that 180 - 40 = 120… -.-

Either way I’m pretty happy with these scores. When I took the SAT last year I got an 1890 which doesn’t exact fit what a 214 should predict, but my PSAT last year was also in that range so hopefully I should see similar growth on the SAT? I hope so at least.

Good luck to everyone, I never expected to do so well (even though I’m well aware that among the CC crowd this isn’t much to be impressed over) and will be glad to take the commendation letter thing if I don’t make semifinalist.

Why is it that some students get their scores so early? My school doesn’t give us the scores until January 7th…kinda sucks. Is there any way to see your scores before the schools gives them out?

with you BMittman- don’t have my scores either…

Same with BMittman and nil desperandum :/

179 (no studying) - M 68, CR 57, W 54…depressing to be on this forum :</p>

228 from Alabama. 227 last year. Missed 5 total, 1 reading and 4 writing. Our class is going to be 20% semifinalist

203,life fail. how am I ever going to get into colleges i like…?

nil, go watch The Nightmare Before Christmas and catch a little ho-ho-ho spirit! Do not let the Grinch get you down.

203 means just one thing: you won’t be a national merit semi-finalist or finalist. Welcome to a big club! The majority of students admitted to the top schools by any definition are not national merit semi-finalists or finalists.

Well…okay…203 also means one other thing: it demonstrates you can attain a high SAT score if you want to. Standardized tests are a game. Test prep is the key to winning the game.

(203 will likely confer commended status, too, which is nice for the ego, your school might publish a commendation photo or list, your family will be proud and you’ll get tons more mail including stuff from colleges you like.)

Congratulations on your 203, and have a great winter break!

I didn’t get mine but I know it won’t be as good as the people on this forum.

Ok I took PSAT a week after SAT.

SAT I received 2110 and was depressed
PSAT 2350!!!

I can’t believe it :)

Virginia – 218 for Son #1 (class of 2011)

XXX OOO A HUGE thank you to whoever posted the Merit Scholar cut-off scores for the last 3 years in each state. That was helpful!!! XXX OOO

Virginia Class of 2010: 218

Virginia class of 2009: 219

Virginia Class of 2008: 217

This is going to drive us crazy!!! We won’t know until next fall if he made the cut-off!! Yikes!! : shock : We’ll just keep on praying, and submitting joyfully to God’s will no matter what He decides.

Writing curve seemed VERY harsh to us. Our son is a phenomenal writer (according to all his teachers), and last year he scored 77 on writing, missing only one question. This year he scored 73. ???

Reading: 80 (up 12 pts)
Math: 65 (up 3 pts)
Writing: 73 (DOWN 4 pts)

Son just texted from school. 213 in Missouri. He’s happy but a little disappointed. He thought it would be a little higher. Oh well.

Missouri semifinalist cutoff:
2007–211
2008–213
2009–211

If the pattern continues, he may be just at or under the wire.

Moving on to the next phase of the process…

the cutoff for Texas has ranged from 214 to 217 over the last 10 years, so unless the average on the PSAT was much higher than usual, 218 is probably going to make it. It was 216 for class of 2010, so going up more than 2 is very unlikely in such a large state.
Good luck!

237 … TX

Scores just came out today at my kids’ school. My son’s guidance counselors went to find him during lunch and said, “You HAVE to call your mom and let her know!” So although the school rules are no phones, texts, or calls allowed during the school day, they let him use their phone to call me! Our counselors (whole staff) are so, so nice!!! Have always felt very lucky to coincidentally pick such a great school system in which to raise my kids.

@kathleentexas…so are you saying the cutoffs of larger states tend to fluctuate less?

My daughter got a 224 and we live in California.

I have been lurking on this board for a while. Thank you to the people who have been posting the cutoff numbers from previous years. The information is very helpful.

I got a 205 in NC, oh well. At least I should be commended. I’m still happy that I jumped 40 points from my sophomore year PSAT (165). Hopefully, my SAT score will be higher.

My lowest score ever on the most important test.

Last year I got a 201, and on the actual SAT I got a 2060. ■■■ ■■■ ■■■.

I live in FL. The highest in my school that I know of is only a 208 though. Still, I never would have imagined doing this poorly. Writing killed me - 630 :frowning: M&CR were 670 each.
