So...the exam is two days away! Any comments?...Thoughts?...Worries?

Here's what we'll do too. Someone will present an argument in one sentence (a well-developed thesis), and the next person to reply must accept, refute, or qualify that argument. Then that person will make a new argument. Feel free to include any ethos, pathos, logos, rhetorical strategies. This thread isn't for fun in the technical sense, it's for accumulative review.

EXAMPLE (for accepting the argument):

Space exploration should be encouraged because natural resources on Earth are dwindling and the want of human discovery necessitates it.

[I agree.] It is wrong to hinder the human desire to explore new worlds. Not only that, aerospace technological developments have opened new paths for other life-saving technologies, such as the pacemaker.

Oh, and let's define new vocabulary every post we make while we discuss for more studying. >.<

Muliebrity - the condition of being a woman / feminine qualities or characteristics.

[Disagree] It is because of the dwindling natural resources on Earth that we must focus on improving life on Earth before concentrating on space exploration. After all, instead of finding a way to avoid the problem, we must concentrate on the problem and find ways to fix it.

Gender separated classes should be used because research shows that boys and girls learn in different ways

[I agree] Mankind reached its current state by exploring the unknown regardless of the consequences. It is, therefore, natural for us to continue to explore the final frontier. Not only does space exploration unlock the mysteries of the heavens, but it also spurres rapid technological progress, resulting in numerous practical innovations.

@MyintyJ: That prompt is hard to respond to without knowing this “research”. So this would most likely be a synthesis essay.

Respond to this: Teachers in our society should be given more pay for the simple fact that they are mentoring our future professionals and citizens.

euphemism: the replacement of a vulgar or possibly offensive term with a less offensive term (for example, replacing corpse with “earthly remains”)

By the way, is there even any practical way of preparing for the exam other than countless time spent practicing?

[I disagree] Teachers indeed hold a very honourable position in our society, a position of great responsibility, but they don’t need the same level of education as people who have higher paying jobs, such as doctors and lawyers. They are already rewards with great job security, lots of Christmas gifts, and a lot of holiday breaks.

New thesis: Standardized exams, such as the AP exams, should be accessible to all students and thus offered free of charge.

PS: It’s a skill based exam, so you just need to be good at criticial reading, arguing, and analyzing.

[I disagree] Although taking multiple standardized tests may be expensive, it is mandatory that they cost students money to take. Without paying for them, the graders would not receive money, and not put a full effort into their jobs. If this occurs, then the scores of the exams will not be a true assesment of what the students have learned.

New thesis: All students in high school should be required to play a sport.

^i really dont like that one, lol. why would anyone require it oO…sorry im too technical for english…yet im taking the ap --

okay have any of you taken practice tests?
how did you do on the MC?! my english teacher keeps saying that its impossible -_-
but like…is it really?
i understand you only have an hour…but yea
do you know anyone who got a 5?

I took a practice test and got 51/55… so it’s not impossible!
I practically ran out of time, though, and I even consider myself to be fairly fast at these tests…

It’s a lot like the SAT II Lit if you’ve taken that…

no i havent but ill take a practice test 2moro on my own…i hate how my teacher sets them up during class…she makes it wayyy too tense…a countdown clock ticks on the overheard…you see the time projected onto the screen…we’re sitting in a circle awkwardly glancing at each other… my heart begins to race… my focus becomes non-existent… oh the agony!

We barely review or discuss the curriculum in my class, the whole year was just a blur of random digressions and discussions, none of which were AP Lang related. I’m hoping just to pass.

I have the most awsome AP Lang teacher, pretty excited about tomorrow’s test. I’m getting about 7-8 for essays, but I take like an hour to finish each one. MC is pretty easy imo, easier than SAT CR.

Does anybody have a method they use for the analytical essay? I know this is English and pretty skilled based, but I just want to know if people have a thought process they use, because honestly, sometimes I look at the practice passages and my mind goes blank. I’m just curious if anyone has any tips to help get started.
