2010 AP Physics B Discussion Thread

how accurate have people found the AP pass calculator to be?

it seems too lenient for all ap exams

AP Pass is accurate for World History AP as I have asked a teacher and he checked it out and said it was accurate for world.

true. i hope thats the curve for physics this year cause then i think im good for a 4

0-39

40-53

54-82

83-105

106-180

What was the MC biased toward? I didn’t notice a bias, but I did run out of time.

Skipped ten, probably missed 3-7 more, and probably got about 58/80 on the FRQ. I entirely skipped FRQ#7, that was the one subject I didn’t learn. x.x

are we allowed to talk about the questions?

For anyone who passed this, good for you. My physics teacher didn’t teach us jack. I definitely got a 1 on this exam, or maybe a 2 if I got any partial credit or had good guessing intuition on the MC.

aaron, it is very difficult to get a one on an ap exam. You have to try and put in wrong answers to get a one. Even if you use common sense, thats enough for atleast a two I would say.

I self-studied an amazingly huge amount to pass the exam. And I think I did, 'cause of that. ;D

^
about the bias

There was definitely more than 4% of the test on magnetic fields… collegeboard lied…

got effed up by the subject that i studied the least on…
perhaps 50 raw score on MCs if i made a lot of small mistakes… and then FRQs ehh soo up in the air.
I really hope that the curve is as generous as that one up there… otherwise, the 5 is out of reach for me…

I could not do 2 parts of a question on FRQ, I did two parts wrong (that I know so far), and the MC was not as bad as I’d expect, although I did have 15 questionable answers. Hopefully I get -20 on FRQ and -24(4 blanks) on MC, which should be enough for a five…

@the bias, I didn’t recognize it, but my friends noticed it.

Collegeboard AP claims that 25% of the test is E&M topics, and that 35% would be Newtonian Mechanics…Hmm.

Disclaimer: I’m not discussing the test. Just stating what Collegeboard told me.

This test did seem to have a shortage of mechanics problems, but it wasn’t outrageously skewed towards any one subject either. I just wish there was less on nuclear stuff- we basically skimmed over most of it or didn’t even look at it at all.

@0123456789
I’m sure they wouldn’t stray too far off with their claim

@kwwboarder
Definitely. Everything relating to modern physics was purely self studied (my teacher had no time to lecture), and even then I probably got a few mistakes.

AP Pass is not accurate, because there are not 8 FRQ on the test.
And also, 66 was a curve for a 3 in 2008.

What was the curve for the 2009 test?

I was worried since our teacher didn’t get us through all the material due to mid-atlantic snow and him being out for 2 weeks since his dad had surgery and died. I feel bad for him. He makes class really fun. Still, we got through most of it.

Back to the test…it was much easier than I thought it would be. I’m counting on a 5.

@NYEM the curve was around 106/108, or so my physics teacher said(he had the materials bought from CB for 2009 so I’m confident that it should be accurate).

Ahh…my physics teacher is new at it, and has taught us the wrong stuff the whole year…anyone who cared to pass had to self-study

How did the difficulty of this test compare to that of the 2009 test? That could give a good estimate of the possible cut off scores.

@NYEM I got 133/180 on that test. In my opinion, the difficulty is the same. I can’t score nearly as high as before due to some major mistakes in my FRQ(although I left no question fully blank).
