2010 Official AP English Language and Composition

Im practicing the MC with the CliffsAP and doing 2 essays a week from collegeboard. Im around a 3-4 so need little more practice for a guaranteed 4. 5 will be nearly impossible for me and my horrible reading skills.

Lol, it is offered as a sophmore level class at my public high school as well and out of about 40-45 people who took from my school last year, I was the only person who got a 5. 4.5 average is pretty crazy

There should be some on College Board.

Does anyone know how the scoring works? How much the essays are worth compared to the MC? And what is the percentage scale for the MC to get a score of a 5, 4, 3, …?

AP English Language and Composition
MC x 67.5/number of questions
FR x 3.055556

110 - 150 = 5
109 - 94 = 4

MC is 45%; FR is 55%

Jerry, that’s pretty much exactly how my class is. I’m afraid that since all we do is talk about things and how we feel about them that I will fail the AP exam miserably.

Thanks Jerry.

Is the MC worth half the points, and the essays the other half? I’m so terrible at multiple choice. >.< I’m pretty decent on the essays, my teacher grades them and I can usually get around a 7/9. We practiced synthesis with the “Should we get rid of the penny?” argument; it was so boring. :/

Received a 5 last year. Feel free to PM etc. I’ll help out as best as I can. :)

neekzg, multiple choice is worth 45% of the exam and essays are worth 55%. I know, I’m terrible at the multiple choice too, I usually get around 30 or 31 out of the 55 or so questions. I’m counting on my essays.

Do we need to utilize all of the space provided?

Is a 9 on an essay impossible? What does a 9 even look like? I couldn’t find any sample essays and my teacher told us that we were shooting for 7s and 8s, as if a 9 wasn’t even an option. We only started preparing for the ap exam in February after we took the comprehensive english regents exam.

There should be some samples on College Board.

How do people usually do on the MC and Essays? I am getting mid-30s on MC for raw score and 6’s on essays.

Not really. Just write as much as you want. You can write an essay one page, two page, or any page. The booklet you are given has many pages for you to write the three pages.

Thanks for the clarification.

^^opps. by “three pages” (at the end of the last sentence), I mean “the three essays.”

Sorry for the possible confusion.

That’s fine, I was able to comprehend that.

Isn’t this test in the second week of AP testing?

^Yup. I think it is the 12th

This is nerve-wracking.
