2011 AP Human Geography Preparation Thread!

I’m really worried now. Everyone said that the exam was so easy yet I guessed on about 15 MC questions and did alright on the FRQ. I’m hoping to score a 5 but the previous posts have caused me to become apprehensive since it will most likely be more difficult to get a 5 due to the “ease of the exam” for everyone else.

Dude, remember you’re on CC.
Most of the kids here are the “cream of the crop”
And the curve is very generous

here is my worst case scenario:
55/75 mc
7/8 1st frq
3/4 2nd frq
5/6 3rd frq.
I took off a point for each of the frqs in case I messed up anywhere, but I don’t think I did. I might have gotten a perfect FRQ score, it was that easy. (Meanwhile, the person next to me was drawing a giant whale on every page of his frq book haha)

2nd frq will probably be out of 8. 1 point for identifying and 1 point for explaining each of the 4 things requested

^Yeah, who knows. APHG frq’s are weird.

Just looked up 4 of the questions that I was iffy about on the test and saw that my (educated) guesses were right! Some of those questions were really random but then there were those that were cake for reassurance.

My optimistic scenario
50/75 on MC (I’m pretty sure on 45 of them and I’m hoping I have some educated guesses correct)
3/8 FRQ 1
5-7/8 FRQ 2
6/6 FRQ 3
This totals to a raw score of 78-83

My worst case scenario
45/75 on MC
2/8 FRQ 1
3/8 FRQ 2
6/6 FRQ 3

This totals to a raw score of 66

I think I have a viable range and a good chance at a 5, it all depends if my explanations on the FRQ were clear enough and my examples were applicable/the right ones.

In all honesty, I thought I was going to get a 3 or below before I started the exam, but now I think I might get a 5? >< well I shouldn’t be too optimistic as it was my first AP, and Human Geo isn’t what I plan to major in so I am not going to make a big deal if I get a 4 or even 3 :>

We’re not suppose to talk about the MC… and even so, I don’t remember that question on the exam? I will be so ****ed right now if I skipped one and my whole scantron got messed up…

After taking the exam (difficulty and no guessing penalty considered) what do you predict will be the grading scale for this year?

Are you kidding me, the MC was difficult! It wasn’t balanced between all the subjects, so much agriculture! I didn’t think the FRQ was to bad, but this was my first AP test and I didn’t manage my time wisely so #1 is FILLED with info and #2 and #3 are missing 2 points they asked for. Hoping for a 4 =/

What do you guys think of this answer for #1:
1a. primate city - Has large population, reflective of the country’s culture, older primates have evidence of cultural footprints. related to Mexico City: I talked about how there is a large population and evidence from the Aztecs that used to reside there.

rank size rule - largest population divided by rank is the estimated population, Mexico City doesn’t work because it’s to big.

1b. positives: tourism and industry create jobs for people, (don’t remember what I put for the second)
negatives: environmental pollution (Mexico City is the 2nd most polluted city in North America, China, Russia), squatter settlements for those who don’t find work

The thing was really easy. All I did was read Barrons the day before, and I’m positive I got a 5

Well the curve depends on how well others did, which most people at my school said that the FRQ was easy except for #2 and the MC was harrrd. So there’s a chance of having a good curve in terms of the results at my school, but remember that there wasn’t a point deduction. I know I missed at least 2 because of a careless mistake on the last 2… :frowning: and they were easy…

@rapevictim: The United States. Think of the fence with Mexico

Uh I’m pretty sure the curve is not based on how well the other people did, but it’s predetermined by testing a group of college kids. That’s what one of my teachers told us, and it also explains why different amounts of people get 5s every year. So how the people around you did shouldn’t affect your score.

My teacher thinks that its based off of the global averages.

I don’t think Deleware is a major state that does cattle ranching or poultry…

Guys, we’re not allowed to discuss the MC questions. C’mon!

Okay, my guesses are getting pretty much owned right now… I just looked up the origin of bananas… (this isn’t directly relating to the exam or is it :< I just wanted to know more about bananas, I swear!)

Some people are just bold…come on guys remember 48hours!
