2011 AP Human Geography Preparation Thread!

Do you think I can get by with Barron’s and textbook notes from the web? I don’t have the money to buy a textbook right now.

I took AP Human Geo this year and The Cultural Landscape: An Introduction to Human Geography was a horrible book for this subject, also the teacher was an idiot and never taught all the chapters, however, a lot of the content that was asked in the test was supposed to be in some chapters that we read and actually it wasn’t so I recommend you to take the Barron’s book.

I took this test with a teacher that shouldn’t be legally allowed to be called a teacher, my Kaplan study book, and The Cultural Landscape: An Introduction to Human Geography. I got a 5, after studying a decent amount the week before. You honestly don’t need to prepare this far in advance, and if you do, then you shouldn’t be at the AP level. You’ll be fine with this test if you know the material throughout the year, start reviewing maybe a month before, and turn on the afterburners on the last week. You’d be very well qualified, I think.

Dude, don’t even bother, Human Geography is by far the easiest class I have ever taken, I’ve had classes in middle school that were harder.
Honestly, I finished the FRQ in 20 minutes and drew this on my hand:

[Rohi Nagari | Facebook](Redirecting...)
I’m confident I got 5 on the test despite almost never studying for tests and doing my hw in lunch (i had human geo 4th period and lunch before that)

@chroni, if you want to know the changes, they’re listed on AP Central.

It sounds like we should go with both Barron’s and PR, or one of these books and another study guide, if we want a comprehensive enough study guide to get a 5?

^you do not need Barron’s I took the 2010 test this year and it wasn’t that good. The PR is much better! But if you must get 2 books, get PR+Kaplan. Kaplan has good graphics.

Did you get your results yet Dylandlima?

my rubenstein textbook just came in the mail today :)

You guys are overthinking it, by simply reading the textbook and doing a minimal amount of reviewing you can get a 4 or 5

Calc is very interesting material though.

I’m joining you guys
I’m getting the Barron’s prep book and notecards.

Is there an online class for Human Geo?

I haven’t got my results yet. But probably a 4 or 5. The test was easy. Too easy for there to already be a prep thread.

I’m on chapter 2 on the Rubenstein book. Reading it is not as dense as reading a history book, like the APUSH American Pageant.

^You don’t need to read Rubenstein’s book. Seriously, PR and your good. It’s seriously too easy.

I suggest to never rely on one prep book for self-studying. I did that w/Barron’s for this test and I thought I was screwed over a million times. I have no idea how I got a 5, I still swear they made a mistake but I’m not complaining. If you only get one then dont get Barron’s, contrary to what everyone has said in the past, at least for this year, Barrons was terrible. Since, or so I’ve heard, they are making changes to the exam it is probably best to follow jerry4445 and read the Rubenstein book anyways…just to be safe. Good luck guys.

^^No thanks. I rather learn more from a textbook than from a study guide. :)

This isn’t an important AP exam to take for me since it only goes towards elective credits, but the class was very interesting and it had a lot to do with my major. Everyone thought the exam was easy, and I even passed with a 5. In fact, this was the only AP exam I ever got a 5 on. The book I used was Princeton Review, which was pretty good and the FRQs in the book were on the exam!

This is the most useless thread on this AP forum. I read Barron’s the night before from 10pm to 6am in the morning of the exam and got 1 hour of sleep and I’m pretty sure I got a 5. It was hilariously easy and almost exactly like the Barron’s practice exams. Oh, and this was without taking the class.

Starting this early to prepare for APHG is overkill. Heck, starting a week before the exam is basically overkill.
