2011 AP Human Geography Preparation Thread!

@luggs

Read the material thoroughly
Take the practice quizzes at the end of each chapter
Review Vocab
Take a practice test

^^^^that was all from Barron’s
I feel like I’m pretty well prepared, but I still need to review for FRQs/Models/Some Vocab - all of which i am going to use PR and possibly some Rubenstein

I’m thinking my strategy for approaching this will be:

 • Read PR first…
 • Flashcards of every ‘term’, with a precise definition (since they seem to ask you to define things of the FR frequently, it seems), and an example (if applicable)

Draw and label the models as many times as it takes for me to know them perfectly.

@statlanta: So, would you recommend for me to buy PR and use it in addition to Barron’s? And what are the models you guys are talking about? I just started reviewing and so far the only “model” I have seen is the gravity model. Maybe I’m missing something or just haven’t gotten there yet.

Demographic Transition Model? The different curves? etc.

I think I might buy Barron’s flashcards. not sure yet though.

Models like

Population pyramids
maps, although people say these do not show up on tests very often (like asking about robinson, mercator, fuller, etc.)
malthus
von thunen
urban organization (sector, etc.)
core-peripheral models

I just got PR in the mail and I am going to start reading tomorrow, and like I said earlier, I am going to focus on models and vocab and preparing for FRQs.

I think Barron’s covers the basic stuff well, but from what I’ve seen so far, PR gets more in-depth

Okay I’m really thinking about getting Barron’s Flash cards. Has anyone had experience with them?

^ Personally, I haven’t. They seem nice but they are not necessary considering there are some websites that have AP Human geography vocabulary. Another option would be just to make your own flashcards and save your money.

I’m using quizlet instead. Who wants to help me make a study group? I’m making flash cards for all the PR keywords.

^ Count me in.

Okay I’ve done The Geo basics section. I’m working on population geography right now…

[Group: Ap Human Geography | Quizlet](http://quizlet.com/group/94479/)

but here’s the link. The password is geo7. Add what you can!

I’m self-studying,and what really concerns me is the FRQs. Does anybody has the idea about how to prepare them? I just finished BR, is it enough for exam?
BTW, I’m an international student…lol
THX~

Sweet. Mrluggs, from where did you get these terms? Just curious on what review book/textbook/etc. you are using to study.

Anyone have any websites with vocab and the models?

Also, are there any good online cram packets?

@Tenebrous- I’m using PR and Kaplan…

@garfield- Join the study group!! Um I’ve seen a cram packet on this site before. Have you checked the cram packet thread?

I’ll join the group. I have checked the cram thread, but I don’t recall seeing a HG one.

That’s strange; I could’ve sworn I saw one there.

I’ll look again; if you can find it, please link me to it.

@Mrluggs: What do you think of PR? Does it really help with advanced topics and free response questions like others have been saying?

@Tenebrous- I haven’t actually completed it yet. But so far, it’s awesome. I think it does a pretty good job with Advance topics. As for free response, I glimpsed over the section, and it’s decent.

^ That’s cool. Basically, I’ve been in a dilemma for a while now, trying to decide if Barron’s alone is enough to get me a 5. I might go with PR also though.
