2011 Applicants: Where are you applying?

@Invent,
I’m applying to Deerfield and not applying to Hotchkiss. I’m applying to Deerfield over Hotchkiss b/c I have to apply to schools close to my home and Hotchkiss is kinda far for me. Also Hotchkiss and Deerfield are VERY different schools. Both seem very preppy, but Deerfield seems more athletically oriented and Hotchkiss seems much more liberal than Deerfield is. I wasn’t very attracted to Hotchkiss, but if I lived closer to Hotchkiss I think I would apply there.

I must be very late to this conversation… Hmm. Definately Andover, Exeter, Choate, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, Loomis, St. Pauls.

wow I didn’t know The Dragon School went beyond year 8(7th grade)

Exeter, Andover, and Lawrenceville.

They are quite different. I am interested in other schools and may apply to more, but what I particularly like about these three schools are:

1) They’re very flexible.
2) Many great ideas are exchanged among the students within the school, and discussion a key point to this statement. Ideas come in/out also.
3) They are influential.

Not exactly your concrete ideas, but there’s something that clicked. My original order was Andover, Lawrenceville, Exeter, but after visiting campus, Exeter was the one that clicked perfectly in general impression. The three are still pretty much the same level on my caliber though…just very different.

My safety is my public school, I suppose.

But tbh after going through this process, I really don’t want to think about that possibility. Though it is very likely.

I hate to say I have preferences but I do.

 1. Episcopal High School
 2. Westminster
 3. Mercersburg
 4. Kent
 5. Hill

I like different things about all these schools, but by far Episcopal is my first choice. Even if I applied to one of the GLADCHEMMS (which I might, just for fun :P) I’d probably still go to Episcopal. I’m that dedicated. Here’s to hoping I get in with 3/4 aid! :)

I am a parent. My kids are applying schools in texas, so not those famous private schools in the east. But still, I find it difficult to fill out the forms. I want to be honest, but I also like to present my kids in the best way. Any suggestions on how to answer these questions? I appreciate your help very much!! Thanks in advance!!!

 • why do you want to go to this school?
 • what are your kid’s greatest strengths
 • what are your kid’s greatest area of needs
 • Are there aspects of your kid’s personal, physical, or emotional life you would like to see strengthened during her independent school experience?
 • Does your child receive any tutoring or academic enrichment outside of the classroom? If so, please explain.
 • Describe a character in fiction, an historical figure or a work of art that’s had an influence on you and explain that influence
 • Describe one of your most memorable school experiences
 • academic awards (do awards in fine arts count here?)
 • What three adjectives describe you? Why did you use them?
 • Why is attending this School important to you?
