2011 Banneker/Key Scholarship

Talked to admission. Apparently the 2011 invites have already been sent out.

BY MAIL, so don't panic yet!

Hopefully the letters aren't as slow as the admissions ones..

Good Luck everyone!

Thanks for the update! I’m not familiar with the process - how many invites are sent out and how many will actually receive the scholarship?

I’m pretty sure there are estimates in some of the older B/K threads, so do a search. Ill check the site but I doubt theyll have numbers

I stand corrected

“Each fall, we welcome about 150 new Banneker/Key Scholars to campus.”

Still, those are only the ones who actually went to UMD.

And theres no distinction between the half and full scholars.

Mail! As in mail that will arrive at different places at different times so there’s no way to tell if your invited or not for days and days mail? 8|

Exactly. Im glad im not OOS. =/

great OOS and in California…took 10 days to get acceptance letter…

is it just B/K scholarship or all merit scholarships?

I’d imagine just b/k - other scholarships aren’t announced for another month or so I think.

really dont understand why UMD waits so long to decide merit scholarships. I have been fortunate to get accepted to other schools and scholarship info was included with acceptance letter. Makes it a lot easier to make a decision about where to go. I want to visit UMD but have to wait to know if I am getting any financial help.

Ahhh I will be watching my mailbox for sure! The wait is so hard… Everyone please post when/if you do get the letter!

I got the interview invite today in the mail. I live in Maryland. I wasn’t really taking UMD seriously, but if I do end up with this scholarship it would be difficult to turn down.

^ One thing to keep in mind. If you get the invitation for an interview, you are already a B/K scholar with a large scholarship. The only open question then becomes, how much?

Good luck everyone,
From a 2010 B/K scholar.

Got the invite in the mail today too. Live about 20 minutes away from College Park. I’m so excited!!!

Nothing in the mail today. Gonna wait another couple days before giving up though.

What are your guys stats?

Are semifinalists guaranteed at least half? And I assume the interview is to decide who gets full?

Called in to the admissions office.

THEY ARE BEING SENT OUT IN MULTIPLE WAVES, AND NOT ALL OF THEM HAVE BEEN SENT OUT.

So, stay strong, everyone. The invites might not even be sent out by the end of this week.

And yes, iceberg. Everyone who is invited gets at least half. There is no differentiation between the two types except in financial records.

No, everyone who is invited gets at least 8,000. So most of tuition for instate. The out of state partial is 12,000 to try to (but fail to) make up for the increased cost.

Also you get the invitations according to what interview date you’re invited to.

so it could be a week until the next wave gets sent out?
