2011 dorm choices

First of all, congratulations to everyone that got accepted today.

I was wondering where everyone is planing to stay next year. Personally, I'm between San Jacinto and Jester. I have heard good and bad about both. I should (hopefully) be able to get my first dorm choice since I sent in my housing application the second they let you.

Probably San Jac or Duren. I got my housing application on the first, but someone here said in one post that if you didn't apply the first day, you will be hard pressed to get into San Jac or Duren. I think I will be rooming with evan.

My brother didn't apply to San Jac until a month afterwards and still got it. So.. I think it just depends on your situation.

But yea, I am def. inbetween San Jac or Duren. No way am I going to have a community bath when I can have a nice private one in my room.

San Jacinto is newer and has moveable furniture and slightly bigger rooms it seemed. Plus all of it's facilites are newer.

Can't remember if it was San Jac or Jester w/ the private bathrooms.

Yeah Duren is almost exactly like San Jac. I like San Jac more bc I feel it is in a better location on campus..depending on where your classes are.

Duren is right next to kinsolving which means good food. But San Jac has the gym right next door which is a MAJOR + for me. I don't think I could live without a gym anymore.

Um. Is Kinsolving's Cafeteria really better than Jester's?

Yeah, my sister(she lived in kinsolving, can't get enough of the food) has beat that into my head several times.

kinsolving is much better than jester, and community baths are not so bad. Trust me, I had similar fears before moving in.

Yeah, I hear the same about the food at Kinsolving. San Jac has a great location in my opinion.. Gym, football stadium, and it is rather close to Jester, where a lot of activities are.

I don't think I would have a problem with community bath.
San Jac is great because it is new and nice.
Jester is nice because there are a lot of things going on and a good sense of community. Plus it is cheaper

I wouldn't mind either..prob will end up choosing San Jac.... Seems like the wisest decision.

Lolz, this sounds wierd, but can you elaborate on "community baths" Because my idea of a community bath is no curtains just alot of spickets (this is what i had at my school for 4 years, high school, for sports. So, I would just like to see some clarification, on what exacatly community baths is at Jester.

there are individual stalls for showers. the bathrooms are cleaned daily by custodial staff.

t.t one minute after my response, thanks, and im assuming, theres just a bunch of sinks with mirrors for brushing teeth, shaving, etc.e etc.?

im not sure about the sinks but im assuming the same thing as you. also, there are individuals sinks/mirrors in the rooms i have seen at jester.

I'm considering San Jac or Duren as well. But I'm sure Duren will be pretty expensive because it's new. Is Duren really that far away from most of the college buildings?

By the way, does paying the enrollment deposit mean you are DEFINITELY going to UT or does that just secure your spot?

No, it secures your spot. Their is no legal obligation, but if you don't go there, you lose your deposit. Which is like quite a bit of money to throw away, unless you get into like IVY or some crap. Duren is pretty far away from the gym, and a lot of the buildings, but its next to kinsolving. So you may have to walk to classes pretty far, but you will always have good food.

haha i guess that would work out: tons of food + long walk. that's like some great exercise right there. who needs a gym? :]

I thought the deposit was refundable if you decline your admission.

i thought it was refundable also

The deposit is refundable. The housing app fee isn't.

Anyway. I didn't know the community showers were cleaned everyday. Sweet.
