2011 Indoc

Thanks....the small flashlight is a great idea. They have tiny ones now that are as small as nail clippers.

KP10...my son runs Xcountry, indoor and outdoor track as well as plays and officiates ice hockey. I think he should be in good shape for indoc and physical things.

Hope the next 5 months go s...l........o.......w for me.

Bless you all!

one word about the flashlight, don't bring an expensive one, cause if you get caught, it goes bye-bye and you don't see it again.
another good thing to bring is good quality shoe inserts... the shoes you're issued suck. but yeah, enjoy all the time with him you've got. he might think he's got all the time in the world, but july will sneak up on him before he knows it. keep on pushing. : )

Must have been my wife chasing little chinese girls :D

oh another thing...
make sure you know how to swim before showing up... this is a maritime school... everything involves water, make sure you can swim... if you can't, get some private lessons in order to not make life miserable once you get here...

He can swim...not competitive, but swim. Does he need to know any other strokes except freestyle? I can teach him anything else he neeeds to know. Thanks!

breast wouldnt be a bad idea also drown proofing

backstroke, breaststroke, and sidestroke are all good to know.

I’ve heard it called “Plebe Drowning” probably with good reason. Its tough for kids who aren’t strong swimmers and several get put into remedial swimming during Indoc. My kid, a freestyle only swimmer, didn‘t fare well & his endurance was terrible. He could do about 4 pretty slow laps up and back in an Olympic sized pool before he reported in. Said it was his biggest weakness. I could never get him in the pool with me until the summer before he went in. I taught Red Cross swimming & lifeguard courses for about 5 years. If I could suggest anything on this subject…. Get your kid in a class this summer if just to improve endurance in the water. From what son told me, the academy instructors do some of their basic strokes & survival swimming a little differently than I’d taught him. So I don’t know much beyond just getting them in the pool & working hard to build up those lungs & muscles.

im with kp2001,

i flew out by myself and stayed at another midn's (candidate's) house for the night, then went to the gate first thing in the morning. I personally preferred it that way because then emotions were put aside and i only had to worry about myself. You will miss your kids, but u will see them again on parents weekend.

I promise that I did not register a new name JM :) haha. Great minds think alike anothermid

I don't believe you :P

Gee thanks Anothermidn. KP2001 is bad enough. :D

Good luck with inspection everyone.

lol we have to have our rooms to class A tonight...

heard from my plebe...went "fine"

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy a copy of the indoc "book" that the plebe candidates have to learn? The CGA sells theirs in the bookstore. Is it available from the USMMA? By the way, ran into a photographer at my son's track meet today who's youngest son graduated KP in 1998....gee amazing who you meet when you wear a KP sweat shirt.

suzannegra, I don't think so but perhaps one of the Mids can answer. Son couldn't lay his hands on one before he went in during 05 but they may sell them now.

I can still smell the Windex & floor wax all the way down here. Hope the Plebes got some extra Lib??

i wouldn't worry about learning the knowledge before hand, it'll come soon enough, and you don't want to come across as a tool, tell your son to just take his lumps with the rest of them.
and yes jmom. we got overnight.

That's some good advise Is2day. No matter how good you are, they will find something wrong with anything you do. Learn to not take it personnal and press onward with whatever task lie ahead. Always,
keep in mind that graduation should always be in your sights...

yes and it will be the last overnight for a loooooooooong time
