I got 10-12 points… Not sure on a few.

^^ how did you prepare/study??? I’m only a sophomore and I really wanted to qualify for USAMO next year

I didn’t really prepare much. I did two practice tests from AOPS.com, but that was about it.

basically, what I think I’m getting at is, how did you make USAMO and get 10-12 questions… have u previously studied or used any review books like the AoPS ones to learn material?

There are a lot of formulas you need to know. These contests test quirky properties that you will never see in highschool (for example picks theorem, vieta’s formulas, etc…). I used aops vol.2 to go through all these formulas.

Forget Picks, Shoelace is where it’s at. :p

3 and #4 were ridiculous. I managed to get both right, but only via brute force (I literally drew number 3). #15, 8, 9, and 6 were trivial. IMO #15 should’ve been a #5 and #3/4 should’ve been in the tens.

Somehow I managed to get a 12. Sigh, some people I know scored a 15 and some “only” a 14. zzzz

AOPS/past exams work wonders to prepare one for this exam.

Consensus on AOPS is that this was one of the hardest AIME ever. I’m surprised that GreedIsGood and mitigated did so well.

I don’t think #3 and #4 were ridiculous. #3 was calculation heavy, but simple. #4 was basically a single insight problem. Personally, I think they should disallow graph paper during the test because people can just meticulously draw out geometry problems and undeservedly get them right.

I took the AIME1 last Thursday
I did 11 but I think 2 of them are wrong and I made simple mistakes…
:(

So now that the answer key is up, did you guys do as well as you predicted you did? I got a 3 after checking my answers with the answer key online.
