2011 March AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Examination)

Is anyone specifically preparing for the AIME in March? If so, are there any helpful strategies you have other than studying from AOPS and AIME questions?

Studying past AIME exams is the best way to prepare for the upcoming test.

All right. Well, I’ll be doing that, but I don’t really expect to make USAMO. Are you taking the AIME I on March 17 as well then?

Yes I am, and I’m sure you might make USAMO if you understand how to do most of the problems in past exams.

I’m also taking the March 17. There’s nothing you can really do except past tests. Don’t let a question go by (at least in the 1-10 range) that you wouldn’t get right the next time. If it stumped you, chances are it was nothing more than failing to locate similar triangles or something similar. You should have the mindset that you have enough knowledge to solve the problems, because you almost always do. Good luck : )

Same here- except, rather than doing practice problems right now, I’ve been cramming stuff on AoPS Wiki 3-4 hours a day for the last few days.

Has the average AIME score been around 4 the past few years?

I believe the national average has always been around 2.

when is the cutoff for the amc 12 posted

The cutoff for the AMC 12A is already posted, but the cutoff for the 12B shouldn’t be on for a week at the least, I think.

Looks like our school can’t offer the AIME I on March 17 since it conflicts with our WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering - science test-taking competition) sectionals competition in Illinois. So our school will probably be offering the AIME II on March 30.

I’d suggest browsing the AMC forum on AoPS. There have been multiple threads relating to AIME prep, resources, etc. They have classes and books to aid you, though there might not be enough time between now and the AIME…

Everyone ready for the AIME? Heck yeah! I’ll be taking the AIME next week on March 17th after our school’s WYSE Sectionals competition in the morning…and then I also have to go to parent-teacher conferences later on that day. Then the next day I will be taking the USABO Semifinal exam. So it shall be a busy two days. But it’ll be fun. :)

we’re taking the AIME II at our school, so I gotta bit of extra time to study (aka F5 the college decision site every 2 seconds  )

guys…aime II is where it’s at

I have a questions. If you took AMC 12A and AMC 10B, which score do u have to put on the AIME answer form? Can I put both? Btw I got 112.5 on AMC12A and 144 on AMC10B

AIME I tomorrow.

How did everyone else do on the AIME I? I probably got a 3.

Well, I have AIME II in less than 2 weeks…haven’t really been prepping much. Gotta start actually practicing next week

Personally, this was my first year taking it and I was the only one taking the AIME in my school… I’m terrible at geometry questions so I probably got maybe 1-3 right. Is it ok to guess because on the AMC it isn’t and I guessed on everything because I remember hearing that you have to get a specific score, like 7 or up to qualify for USAMO
