2011 RSI Discussion

■■■, i’m starting to think maybe they never received my application at all. Or maybe I put down the wrong email. Or something.

Accepted
I got my acceptance letter by mail today. It reads:

Dear Ms. TheUnsungHeroine,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Center of Excellence in Education, it is my pleasure to invite you to attend the twenty-eighth annual Research Science Institute (RSI) held in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. RSI 2011 will take place at MIT from June 19 to July 30, 2011. You are among 47 U.S. students chosen to attend our program for top math and science students. Approximately thirty students from other nations will also attend.

Please send a letter of acceptance to Ms. Maite P. Ballestero, Vice President, Programs (maite@cee.org) no later than March 22, 2011. Program details will follow upon our receipt of your acceptance.

Congratulations! We look forward to having you with us.

Sincerely,
Joann P. DiGennaro
President

^yeah i didn’t include a postcard to verify they received my app, so yep, part of me wonders too if that might be the issue.

@unsungheroine… what state do you live in?

unsungheroine - could you please post your profile?

unsunghero said VA first, then removed. Also said accepted as a sophomore which is not even eligible!!!

I am from Virginia, so I live fairly close to the CEE office. Some letters, I presume, have not been sent out yet. Best of luck to the rest of you!

@unsunghero: you are definitely from TJ if true.

Hey guys, I was rejected in the first slaughter
The RSI director actually said that it was their “most competitive year”, with over 100 rejections in perfect PSAT scores…so many “over-qualified” applicants that they had to look at AP’s (i remember somebody forgot to send their AP’s scores…that sucks :frowning: )
anywayy good luck

Unsurprisingly, no mail.

I got a letter in the mail today. I got chosen as an alternate :(

^dearest maddoxparadox613:

You’re at least an alternate. That means you are super-special, made of awesome, and you might possibly win at LIFE ITSELF. If not, you at least win at science. Don’t be sad–know that the committee at least considered you!

re: the post by lomeinaddict…LOL! Thank God I sent in my AP scores late!!! When my dad called CEE and told them I neglected to send them in, he was told said they do not consider AP scores and do not request them, but if we would like to submit them in supporting documentation, that would be fine. They even provided a fax number! Now they are saying they ARE considering them! Wow…well, glad I sent them! Whew!

I find it pretty implausible that they had 100 perfect PSAT scores…AND they were all rejected. Just based on mere logic and chance, even considering RSI is self-selective. I am dubious over that claim. well, maybe it is a very competitive year hence the long wait for some of us. Hope we get word tomorrow—Good luck all!!!

Not to accuse anyone of being a ■■■■■, but judging by that twitter, it does not make logical sense that someone would have received a letter of acceptance (or alternate status) today.

I dont know if I sent in my ap scores  I have a 5 on calc bc and a 4 on ap language. That would help since I only sent in my psat of 212 (sophomore year score, junior year I was sick). I hope they can figure that a 212 as a sophomore who did not prepare would of done well junior year.

Upon reading some people got letters in the mail I sprinted to my mail box lol. I received nothing. I tend to agree with blufzms that it seems unlikely to have gotten letters but they may have been put in the mail yesterday and the twitter is regarding mites? idk what to think. Congratulations nevertheless. Guess I get to spend another day of break constantly refreshing my email

The twitter most likely isn’t regarding RSI or any adolescent program at all.
The twitter mentioned “scientists”. You usually don’t refer to applicants as legitimate scientists.

Perspicacious, SemperFidelis. Well, that’s good news; maybe I can expect /something/ tomorrow.

Yeah you guys are right, it seems a bit odd that they’d have selected alternates before making final acceptance decisions. :/

Also, congrats on the acceptance and waitlist, that’s awesome :D

both accepted and alternate mentioned actual mail as opposed to email.

Sorry to misinform you guys, then, blufzms’ logic is pretty irrefutable.

Wah, should’ve sent in my AP scores. It’s hard to believe that I haven’t been rejected already. I know people with both superior essays, recs, and stats.

Ender, me too. All the AP studying I could’ve been doing/could be doing… sigh. CC and RSI> APUSH

PS. Well, gee. I think I’m a legit scientist :P
