2011 RSI Discussion

thanks prodigious. I will definitely be up for that party. My stats are not that good compared to the ones posted so i am surprised I am still around. maybe i shined through in my essays? I rechecked my email (i saved a copy of my app thankfully) and its right.

To those who have already been rejected- I am sorry but I know something good will come of this and you will find something amazing to do this summer.

got my rejection email yesterday. surprisingly, i dont feel bad or disappointed at all cuz i knew i wasnt gonna get in anyway. living in los angeles sucks :frowning:
i guess 7 AP tests with all 5s (bc, bio, chem, comp sci a, enviro, and both phys c), a perfect 36 on the ACT, a 20 page research paper, and being really good at tennis just dont help at all. u just have to be like some crazy smart kid with like national and international awards from the olympiads or intel or something. im surprised no one got in from my school either, one of the best in the country
good luck to everyone still waiting, and congrats to the people who get in!

Ender, when I tried to save the pdf, it told me that it was an unsaveable version. Should’ve printed an extra copy for my reference. :frowning: Sigh.

satfailures, i don’t even know why i am in the running (if i am, and didn’t just mistype my email). compared to you, i’m like, a rock. Also, all those APs= siemens scholar, right? wow.

I am actually pretty curious to read everyone’s essays. If you wouldn’t mind… please? :)

Or we could just PM each other’s essays. That would work, right? xD

Haha, yeah, I can send my essays, but I want to read yours too. :stuck_out_tongue: Umm, just send me a PM? We can discuss how to send it through there. ^^

Satfailures - how was your PSAT? With all those APs and a perfect ACT, it sounds odd that you were rejected.

I’d think that a perfect ACT would outweigh a poor PLAN or PSAT score…

texaspg, i got a 224 (80 M, 75 W, 69 R). not so good. maybe this dragged me down :(

A 224 is definitely not bad. CA is just crazy competitive… Prodigious, I PM’d you, rather awkwardly :D

The minimum requirement was met and so PSAT did nt exclude you.

***. I knew RSI was hard, but I didn’t know it was impossible. I didn’t bother applying because I knew I wasn’t going to get in … and when I see people like satfailures get rejected, I’m glad I didn’t waste my time filling out an application.

paronomasia, i was one ap test short for the siemens scholar thing, but im trying for it this year cuz im taking that last test. well, my school did ■■■ up my app cuz i transferred schools from 9th grade to 10th grade and then back to my 9th grade school for 11th grade, so my schedule was screwed this year (too easy looking) and my school got my classes from 10th grade all wrong. the classes all were named weirdly, and my current school (the one i went to 9th and 11th) got confused and named the classes wrong. apparently, phys c could be Honors Physics C (AP) and same for calc and comp sci. so the school had to send in two packages with all my grades and stuff. and i sent in my app, made corrections to it with the extended deadline, and sent in the corrected stuff. all this crap prolly made me seem very forgetful and stuff like that and gave them a bad impression of me. oh well, more time for tennis and personal research and video games this summer lol

@ paronomasia- I just photocopied everything right before mailing it. Although I did forget to photocopy scores so idk if they got my ap scores

@ satfailures- your scores are amazing and I am sure you are set for next year with the addition of a good summer. (ps you should rename yourself- those scores are not failures in any regard)

For people who have received letters do you mind checking how they sent them? ie priority/standard mail

hey guys sorry to interrupt the acceptance posts, but I was wondering if you can repeal to RSI? I am a sophomore and just discovered that the deadline is during January but all the olympiads that I have been rigorously studying for and my SAT and the rest of my junior year ap exams are after that?

Are juniors supposed to get into RSI based off their stats as a sophomore, i am a bit confused

To your second question, yes.

We’re allowed to send more material after the deadline though, it seems.

@DannyNobel: Yeah, they mostly base you off your sophomore grades, your Junior PSAT scores and standardized exams you’ve taken up to January. You’re out of luck on the Olympiads you want to take in junior year… =/

By the way, my acceptance letter was postmarked Mar 14. It was one piece of paper in a plain envelope (not priority mail.)

Also, everyone who still is waiting for a result should be proud of themselves - who knows, you might get your letter tomorrow :D

so, lets just say, hypothetically, i get rejected from RSI, but by some miracle become a usapho finalist and a usaco finalist and other prestigious awards, can we notify them to consider our application again, or is it too late?

postmarked march 14? thats good. I thought it was postmarked yesterday.

@dannynobel- For some reason I thought i read something about a summer camp if you do well in those. idk. but there is no way (that I know of) to ask them to re-evaluate you. If you do win those however, you will be in good shape for when you apply to college

@ender

ok thanks

For those wondering about how the long the letter will take to arrive:
