2012/13 Spring Transfer Thread

Just checked my status and I’ve been admitted! :)

Congratulations to both of you!

congrats!!

I’ve been accepted, I’m officially a Longhorn!

I just got accepted.

What now? I am going to finish their checklist tomorrow but it does not mention anything about meeting with an adviser.

I assume I have to meet with one before registering for classes?

@uncultivexu

I believe all of those processes will take place during orientation week. They have two periods of registration. The continuing students have already chosen their classes. We’ll be registering the week of January 7th. The registration is closed until that date.

Congrats!

Hello,

I have completed over 100 hours of classes, 87 of which are transferrable. I had a bad start when I first went to school 10 years ago, and this has lowered my overall GPA to 3.08. In my most recent schooling, I have completed the following degrees/certificates:

Associate of Arts, Honors (GPA 3.404)
Certificate: Computer Systems, Networking and Communications
Associate of Science, Honors (GPA 3.563)

I was also a member of Phi Theta Kappa and National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and held a chapter officer position for 2 years as webmaster for Phi Theta Kappa, and 1 year as a chapter officer for National Society of Collegiate Scholars (webmaster also).

On my transfer resume, I have listed over 200 hours of community service and related activites. And had some excellent letters of recommendations from my Phi theta Kappa Advisor, one of my Calculus teachers, and the director for the science and engineering center at houston community college. I also had 2 essays that I would consider strong. I have also ran my own business as a web designer, IT consultant, SEO analyst and content writer since 2003.

I have applied for the College of Natural Sciences, specifically as an entry level Computer Science major. Aside from being Core Completed, I have taken the following classes from their transfer guide (and their respective grades):

BIOL1406, 1407 - A,A
CHEM 1411,1412 - A,A
MATH 2413,2414,2415 - B,A,A
MATH 2318 - (on track for an A, listed as a class I am enrolled in and intend to transfer on my application)

I understand that the college of natural sciences gives preference to those who meet their “math readiness” suggestion.

On a side note, after Spring 2013, I am eligible for the “Fresh Start” program, which would bring my GPA up to a 3.444 (I would only need to retake 2 of the classes, composition 1 and 2), though I would have to apply for the summer or fall semesters.

I see that many are receiving their acceptance status already, and I wonder, despite all that I have done, if the 3.08GPA will be enough to get in. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to Ferrana, SeoulSista, BullsOnParade. I will be joining you in January! Just found out about 10 mins ago! So now, where to live??? :D

@WannaBeAtUT - It sounds like there’s a qualitative difference in the way you approached school between your first and second incarnations as a student. I hear that’s what they look for in cases like yours. The “academic trend” is important in general, as stated on the website. It may hinge on your essays, so write your absolute best, and make it moving. Good Luck!

Thanks for your response. I wonder, do they give every application a fair chance (and in-depth" review), or would that low of a GPA automatically remove me from real consideration?

@jjrp87 Congrats!

I was pinching myself last night. It felt so good to see the “Congratulations” message. It was a long 8 weeks of waiting!

I live in North Central Austin, about a 10 minute bus ride to UT. PM me if you have any questions about specific neighborhoods. There are a few areas that I would stay clear of.

@WannaBeAtUT
If you have the opportunity to apply through a Fresh Start agreement, I say do it. Have you thought about taking CLEP exams for English Comp 1 and 2? That way you could save $ and time.

If you don’t get accepted this round, you have the option to appeal. There are applicants that get rejected three times, and get accepted on the third appeal. Don’t give up hope!

@Seoulsista - That was a great suggestion, I called and spoke with someone and they were very helpful. They stated that it would surely increase my chances, and that fresh start applicants are reviewed again if initiated. I can actually still get credit for comp 2, and just miss out on comp 1 and improve my GPA significantly!

So…no answer either way. Anyone know the answer to a few impatient questions (at least it will be here for future applicants in agony)?:

Should i forget about checking mystatus outside of business hours? Seems logical, but if so, it’s going to be hard to keep my mind off of things this weekend (an upside to working during formula one, I guess…). I’m confused because I feel like, for high school apps, some decisions came out at midnight/were automated.

Are admissions rolling out by school (ex: CNS)?

Congrats all who were admitted! I just want to know either way!

Accepted!!!

What do I have to do to accept??

@kha1ed

Congrats! What school/major? I’ll be at COLA for Economics. My heart is set on the MPA program.

I think this link has what you’re looking for.

@kha1ed - congrats, which school?

Has anyone been accepted to the CNS yet? I wonder the same that Austonian asked, if they’re rolling out acceptance school by school, or just overall.

COLA-Government

Accepted to CNS!!
