^D. had more discussions (more conversations) on off topics than directly related to medicine. They just need to check you out as a person, how are you socially. At least at schools that she interviewed, except for one. One was very focused/intense. However, it is important to stand your own. If you feel that somebody is trying to put you down (as I said, happened only once, so do not be scared), make sure not to take it personally, just answer the way you feel. They probably just test you, to see your reaction. So, stay cool, no panic. D’s question specifically was about shadowing and what possibly UG can gain from it. She just stated all her reasons and all that she learned. It was at school that she withdrew later anyway, their focus and a program did not fit her very well. However, as I mentioned, many converstaions were about her Music Minor (all aspects, pop bands, classical music,…etc.) and her un-usual for pre-med volunteering (few years commitment). Keep in mind, interviewers are human beings, they get bored too with the samo samo for few hours. They appreciate just simple chat. Most important is to remain yourself.

Son just got his second interview invite. (fingers crossed! This is #1 choice!)

^^^^^CONGRATS to the boy!!!

Especially since this is his #1 choice!

I know how son felt when he got his II for his #1 choice (at the time!)…it changed after the interview, and acceptances with financial aid packages.

Think something similar happened to Miami’s daughter as well, she had a #1 choice but after 2nd look it changed.

Son’s came after the money was considered. Did not expect the change due to that but I don’t think he had really established his priorities as far as the money until he saw it in black and white. The $$$ signs really hit him hard when he was looking at the loan repayment schedules.

Again congrats to him, yall must be so excited!!!

Kat

CONGRATS to mom2collegekids Son.
Yes, my D. was debating between 2 schools, leanning towards one. She has flipped her decision based on Second Look event. At the end her preference was not strong at all. We have spent couple days looking for apartments, then ended up renting (without her) in another city, while she was yet on another trip abroad right before her Med. School started.

mom2collegekids, Congratulation to your S. I think he will have many good schools to choose from in the end.

MiamiDAP, For some unkown reason, DS has never studied aboard. It is rumored that, compared to comparable schools, relatively fewer students at his UG choose to study aboard. I heard that, in a recent year, the school decided to stop one study aboard program due to a low participation rate. However, it is said it may be good to have some study abroad experience for a med school applicant. (e.g., another good topic to talk about during interview, because I think nobody would like to talk about grades or MCAT or even most course related topics during interview.)

Thanks!! We were getting nervous because as mentioned earlier, the Committee Interview occurred later than desired, which caused the corresponding Committee Letter to be sent to AMCAS much later than we had hoped (received last week).

I meant to ask this earlier…did anyone else have a supplemental that had to be snail-mailed in? Son had one of those. it wasn’t an option. Very odd…but did it .

^Loyola must be snail-mailed. Took this as an opportunity to show off my envelope doodling skills, haha.

And congrats on the interview invite! How exciting :)

Rush also required (or used to) snail mailed secondaries, fee payment and photo.

And congrats on the invite! So very exciting to get an invitation to the place he really wants to go.

^^ We had a couple snail mailed, I think one might be Mizzou, can’t remember the other.

Thought to share some great news, we got ONE acceptance (YEA!!!) but D has tickets for 4 other interviews and she will go/went to them (and she thinks she might like them better) but we are withdrawing from the other II that’s scheduled for Nov. & Dec… What a relief. The report back from D is that all 3 interviews that she attended, she met some amazing, bright, smart, personable premeds and will be thrilled and humbled to be a part of a group that is so dedicated, compassionate and aware of the responsibility that is placed on them as caregiver.

Yes, yes, the other one was Rush. Thanks wowmom, it would have bothered me not being able to remember.

Congrats, Krug! Even if it is not her #1 choice, she now knows she is going to med school, she can relax and enjoy the other interviews and with more acceptances she can choose by fit. Great news.

Super news on the II front, even a late start doesn’t seem to be hindering S of m2ck.

Congrats to your D krug, wow, first for her and for this board, wonderful!

And I thought we’d have to wait until at least Oct. 15 :)??

The acceptance was to a D.O. school, and they released the first wave of decision on 9/21! One of the allopathic school did tell her that they will call beginning midnight (eastern time) on 10/15. Wish they didn’t do that because the kids will all be up for the next 2 hours stressing. An email would have been better in my opinion.

10/15 is when all the fun starts! My first acceptance was at midnight. Someone from the school flew down and hand delivered my acceptance exactly at midnight. It was pretty sweet. Congrats to your daughter, krug. Now she can relax and have some fun!

krug, Congrats to your D. The first one is the sweetest.

we got ONE acceptance (YEA!!!

Congrats to krug’s D! :)

Thanks everyone and we will keep our fingers cross for our “CC” family. We only applied to a few D.O. schools and did not know until the acceptance that they actually gave out scholarships (we are not instate)! We are very grateful.

congrats to krug and krug jr!

Out of curiousity–would a student who received a DO acceptance with a scholarship generally choose to attend that DO school over a full-pay allopathic med school acceptance?

I have a nephew on the premed path and I am trying to learn so I can help guide him on this process.

Can’t answer that one but…huge congrats on the positive news!! I can still remember the interview and acceptance excitement in
my kid’s voice.

Congrats, krug! Now you both can start breathing again.

Gotta be a sweet feeling…
