Decision Date & Time: April 20

UC GPA: 3.8
Major Pre-reqs Completed: 4.0
Intended Major: anthropology
TAG?: no
IGETC?: yes

Extracurriculars: pres. Anthro club, spoke at 2 university conferences, interned at a non-profit
Job/Work Experience: part time since I was 17
Volunteer/Community service: mentor at the International Rescue Committee, traveled to New Orleans to help rebuild homes in 2010
Personal Statement: I had it read by my counselor and the admissions director at UCB, both said it was strong

Applied for Financial Aid?: yes
State: CA
School Type: CCC
Ethnicity: Mexican/Filipino
Gender: male
First generation
Attending Transfer Admit Day? : waiting for UCB

Weaknesses:I went to culinary school for one year before CC and received a D in a non transferable course. I used my highschool Spanish courses to satisfy my IGETC, in which I received a C.

General Comments: I was never able to login into MyUCLA or URSA while everyone else was posting that they were seeing changes, which worried me. Guess it wasn’t indicative.

Decision: Accepted
Decision Date & Time: April 20

UC GPA: 4.0
Major Pre-reqs Completed: 4.0
Intended Major: Political Science (International Relations)
TAG?: No
IGETC?: Yes

Extracurriculars: None.
Job/Work Experience: College tutor and administrative assistant for the Honors Program.
Volunteer/Community service: Volunteered at an organic farm for one quarter, and, before working there, did one volunteer event with the Honors Program.
Personal Statement: Wrote it a few days before it was due, had my boss look at it once, made a few changes, submitted it without caring much for it.

Applied for Financial Aid?: Nope.
State: CA
School Type: CCC
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: Upper middle
Hooks: Meh. None, I guess.
Attending Transfer Admit Day? (if admitted): Doubtful.

Strengths: Perfect GPA, enough Honors classes to be labeled an “Honors Scholar”, a large amount of work experience,
Weaknesses: Terrible, terrible high school transcript (a lot of NC’s before dropping out).
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Academic achievement and not a lot of wasted time.

I hope this information helps next year’s transfers!

Decision: Rejected

Objective:[ul]

[] Job/Work Experience: lots of past work experience. no job currently.
[] Volunteer/Community service: LOTS of community service.

[] School Type:CCC (Santa Barbara City College)

[] Income Bracket: n/a
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): Overcame strong personal obstacles.
[] Attending Transfer Admit Day? (if admitted): n/a
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: strong upward trend.
[] Weaknesses: Didn’t finish any prerequisites and also wrote about another school in my PS. Not a very competitive GPA for the major either.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Overall I wasn’t a very strong applicant. I applied to UCLA because I didn’t want to look back and regret not applying…but I didn’t research anything about the major I applied for and chose not to do any prerequisites. UCLA is a fantastic school, and whoever was admitted is definitely a strong applicant and deserves to be there, but I really have my heart set on Berkeley. To whoever is reading this for next years applications, if UCLA is where your heart is set on, be sure to do ALL the prerequisites![/li][/ul]General Comments: So proud of everyone who has been admitted! Such a strong and smart group and UCLA made some great choices! To whoever hasn’t been accepted, keep your head up! We’re all going to end up exactly where we’re supposed to be!

[] UC GPA: Approximately 3.65 (3.74 at CSU, 3.5 at CCC)
[] Major Pre-reqs Completed: All by spring except third physics course (taking during summer)

[] Ethnicity: Hispanic
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: Low to middle class
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): First generation
[] Attending Transfer Admit Day? (if admitted): Duh
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Determination
[] Weaknesses: Slightly lower GPA than last years avg admit
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think that I was accepted because I put all of the time, research, and dedication into transferring from a CSU to a CCC to a UC. I made sure I completed as many pre-reqs as I possibly could as quickly and efficiently as possible, and I was honest in my personal statement. I expressed my passion for my major, and tried to convey my determination as best as I possibly could. It took a lot of effort and will to be able to go from a CSU to a CCC to UCLA, and I tried to emphasize that and use it to my advantage.
[/ul]General Comments: Good luck everyone!! If anyone has any questions about transferring from a CSU to a CCC to UCLA (or any UC really) feel free to ask, I’d be more than happy to assist you! It’s definitely possible!

I can’t believe this is really happening, I’m a bruin! :)

Decision: Accepted

Decision Date & Time: (4/20 5:00pm)

Objective:[ul]
[] UC GPA:3.49 (including winter 2012 grades)
[] Major Pre-reqs Completed:All
[] Intended Major:Chemistry/Material Science
[] TAG?:no
[] IGETC?:finished by winter 2012, but have not got certified yet
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):I put a lot on my app, including being a volunteer in local clinic, 10 years of piano, talents in arts…
[] Job/Work Experience:no
[] Volunteer/Community service:was a volunteer in my local clinic when I was in highschool(in china)
[] Personal Statement:strong—emotional & honest interpreted my life experience
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?:no, i’m an international student studying in a CCC
[] State (if domestic applicant):CA
[] Country (if international applicant):China, see above
[] School Type:CCC
[] Ethnicity:Chinese
[] Gender:F
[] Income Bracket: well, I pay 10 times more tuition fees
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.):
[] Attending Transfer Admit Day? (if admitted):probably 04/27, you know why…
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I changed my major from Architecture to Chemistry (*?!) after being two years in my CCC…but finished all of the prerequisites for Chem in two semesters. I showed my feelings of losing my dear friend when I was in junior high school, and losing my beloved grandma last year, who was dead from cancer, which throw me into a major that can truly improve human’s life.
[] Weaknesses: I have 2 C’s on my transcript: macroecon and art appreciation…and a D for English 1A! I explained that I took those classes right after I got in my CCC, but at that time I had a hard time understanding the lectures—it was my first semester being in my CCC, and before that I was in China…ya it was second language problem lol…
the worst thing was, I got a B for my general chem 1…and it was the only B that I got for last semester, with 4 A’s for Electromagnetism, Calculus 3, Italian 1 and an IGETC class.

[/ul]General Comments: Congrats to everyone who got in:)
I hope my stats helps the next year applicants. No worries if your grades once sucked! UCLA wants to see your fully potential!!Show them that you can do it!
I finally can have a good sleep…

[] Attending Transfer Admit Day? (if admitted): Is it after July? Cause I get home in August
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Foreign exchange!
[] Weaknesses: GPA is not hot, only completed the very minimum units (67 sem)
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I applied for fall 2011 and was rejected by every school but UCSC, for having not met the minimum units (counselor and my error: 59 units instead of 62.) DO NOT DO THIS. Most people are too smart to have to, but it had to be said. I think I got in because my ECs show I know what I want to do and that I’m trying for it. [/li][/ul]General Comments: Seriously, those who got in, you are amazing! Those that were rejected: Don’t be too worried; perseverance leads to rewards, always.
