** 2012 UCSD Transfer Decisions Thread **

Well, the time is fast approaching. UCSD has stated that Transfer decisions will be released starting this weekend and continuing on a rolling basis until April 30th. Good luck to the 15,183 Transfer applicants this year (down 11% from last year, yay!).

Please use this template when posting your decision, it's much more helpful than "admitted!!" to future transfers. Don't forget to remove the spaces in front of the tags! Feel free to omit certain questions/stats if you don't feel comfortable, or add whatever you feel might contribute.

In an effort to keep this thread a little bit cleaner, I'm going to answer some questions I saw in last years thread or what I think people might ask:

Where do I check my application?

<a href="https://www-act.ucsd.edu/studentApplicants/applicanttracking%5B/url%5D">https://www-act.ucsd.edu/studentApplicants/applicanttracking</a></p>

I didn't get accepted in the first batch, am I rejected?

No, you have until April 30th to be accepted, and yes people do get accepted on April 30th.

Are TAG applications evaluated first?

Historically, the first the few batches have been mostly TAG applicants. Although, UCSD does say TAG's can go all the way until april.

<a href="https://twitter.com/#!/UCSDAdmission/status/180358783866908673%5B/url%5D">https://twitter.com/#!/UCSDAdmission/status/180358783866908673</a></p>

Can you Chance me?

No, go here. <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1164969-2012-transfer-chance-me-thread.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1164969-2012-transfer-chance-me-thread.html</a></p>

What time does UCSD release applications?

Looking through last years thread it seems to be during the day, noon and on. Some people were admitted at 2pm and some kept refreshing and got in at 7pm. So, there doesn't seem to be a set time that they release the whole batch.

Is Warren, Muir, X, Y, Z, .... a good college? Or, I didn't get into my first choice college at UCSD, what can I do?

They are all great colleges, but depending upon your situation/major one might be more beneficial than the other when it comes to time 'til graduation. Although, it's usually not that big of a deal at the transfer level.

First, I really hope you read up on the colleges and their GE's here before you ranked them, as most people get into their first choice:
The Undergraduate College System

If you didn't get into you first choice, you are able to ask at orientation to switch. I've heard if there is a person in the college you want to switch into that wants to switch into yours they will generally accommodate the switch. Otherwise:

"In practice, the overwhelming majority of students are happy with their college assignment, even if it was not their first choice originally, and few students apply to switch. Petitions to transfer between colleges are difficult to justify and approved only in exceptional cases. To qualify, you must complete your originally assigned college’s writing program, demonstrate that switching to a different college will substantially shorten your time to degree, and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 with a specified number of completed units."

When is orientation?

Your college will contact you and let you know.

Are there any events for admitted transfer students?

Yes!

UC San Diego: Admissions Events

If I left anything out feel free to pm me if you'd like, I have way to much free time on my hands and it was generally used bugging admissions officers at UCSD. I can probably answer it or point you in the direction of someone who can.

MOST IMPORTANTLY GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!

Thanks for this, this definitely has to be one of the most comprehensive, informative threads I’ve seen regarding admissions decisions. It would’ve been nice to have something like this posted last year for us to look at, but I’m sure the 2013 and beyond transfer will find this really useful.

I really hope those that are rejected take advantage of this thread to allow others a more complete sense of how admissions is for a particular school. It’s nice reading all the accepted posts, but for future transfers it’s equally as beneficial seeing those that were rejected.

This is my second year applying to UCSD. For anyone curious last year I was rejected with these stats:

**REJECTED/b
UC GPA: 3.43
Major Pre-reqs Completed: All for alt. major, most lower division completed for Gen. Bio.
Intended Major/Alt Major: General Biology (impacted), Biochemistry / Chemistry Dept (non impacted)
Major GPA: 4.0
TAG: NO
IGETC: YES
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Student tutor for my CC, tutored middle school students through a program through my CC, study abroad trip Biology program in Mexico, and I worked part time while attending CC

This year I brought my GPA up to 3.67 by Fall and re-applied as a Molecular Biology major with the same alternate major through TAG. I’m fairly confident I’ll get in because I should meet all the TAG requirements. UCSD is currently co-first choice for me so I’m anxiously awaiting this decision. Good luck to everyone who applied!

I didn’t apply to UCSD, but transfers have already been getting accepted at my school. I was shocked to hear this today.

Edit- I’m not saying you should believe me or not, and I can’t really blame you if you don’t! I really didn’t believe this either when I heard it, but I heard this throughout the campus…Just putting that out there. There’s no need to get all up in arms over this. :)

Kingdomsroa48: Do you happen to know what major they were accepted into? And did they TAG?

I wish I could still edit the first post, knowing what dates people received their acceptance would be nice.

@dilapidatedmind I think the second time will be the charm.

@kingdomsroa48 That’s strange, I don’t even think the 2012-2013 housing contract is up yet so I didn’t think they would admit people on the portals yet. Unless they got a phone call? I thought they were only doing that for freshman. Oh well, won’t really be news come tomorrow.

significant?

http://f.cl.ly/items/3c3v322k1830463f412t/Screen%20Shot%202012-03-16%20at%202.20.47%20PM.png</a></p>

I don’t think so. Anyone who applied can log in and go play around in the current student menus. Most things are just going to say you aren’t in a college, not enrolled this term, have to wait for offer of admission, etc.

The UCSD admissions updated their twitter saying that a THIRD of transfers will be released tommorow. yessss!!! https://twitter.com/#!/UCSDAdmission</a> now i’m pretty pumped up. with about 15000 transfer applicants, that means about 5000 of us will be accepted tommorow. Also noting that there was about 3000 something TAG applicants from the UCSD article about ending their TAG program, that could potentially mean most of the TAGs could be accepted tommorow.

@Acoustic- I think my friend is going for mechanical engineering, but I don’t believe he had a tag.

@Jdom- I know! I’m still pretty skeptical because I know UCSD decisions aren’t supposed to be out yet, at least not until tomorrow or whatever, but why else would it have been all over my campus today? Hmm…

In any case, I’m sure some of you will be finding out tomorrow! Best of luck to you all! :)

@jaybyron
Uh oh… you have no idea what you just started… this thread’s going to explode in a few hours.

LOLOLOL dilapidatedmind, I agree. I AGREE!

@Jaybyron: Let’s hope some non-tag’s are accepted too tomorrow! :-)

bad news?

I’m not a TAG.

Housing Application for Fall 2011-2012

Our records indicate that your admissions status will not allow you to proceed with this Housing Application process for the term indicated. Please contact the Housing Office at 858-534-4010 during our normal weekday office hours of 8am to 4pm.

umm, im not a TAG either and I got that.

So that’s bad news?

No, it’s not bad news. They haven’t even updated their housing app yet. It may or may not be bad news in April, which is when it mattered last year. In April 2011, after the majority of decisions had been sent out, the remaining applicants who were eventually accepted saw a different housing message than those who were ultimately denied.

So, it may be useful in the future. That was why I posted about it. Sorry, didn’t mean to cause a fuss.

It’s not bad news. Plenty of people that had that last year got in…and some of those that had another message got rejected. It doesn’t matter.

Thanks, but I read either on this thread or the other one about UCSD that some students see a different message from the one I posted? What would that mean?

Also, I will post my stats from last year, when I was rejected:

Decision: Rejected (For Fall 2011)

Objective:[ul]
[] UC GPA: 3.29 after TAU
[] Major Pre-reqs Completed: 6/17
[] Intended Major: Biochemistry (non-impacted)
[] TAG?: No
[li] IGETC?: No[/li][/ul]
Reflection

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Low GPA. That’s it. I think that if I had applied with a 3.6, I would have been accepted. This year, I have a 3.93 and 14/17 pre-reqs completed.

@nameless

I was the one who posted in the other thread. You can see my reply here (or just see page 1, post #15 of this thread):

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/14029976-post15.html</a></p>

Like acoustic said, it may or may not mean anything later, and it DEFINITELY means nothing right now.

Wow, Aphysxiac. You look like a good candidate this year…and last year. You had a 3.29 and was rejected with a non-impacted major? I still feel like some non impacted majors are still somewhat “impacted” because impacted majors use majors like that as their alternate major. If you applied with maybe a History major (not bashing anyone with a history major), you would have gotten in with that GPA.
