2012 TAG Thread

@TallLudwig718- Nah bro they dont count non assist certified courses your stressing out too much. If you want to be 100% sure schedule an appointment with a UCD counselor and talk to em but yes im sure you can TAG as long as you dont go over the limit with the ASSIST courses /ex: you have 70 ASSIST units and 8 units from cal poly, you can still TAG!
REMEMBER: UC’s only count ASSIST certified courses when applying for TAG and the course that you took at cal poly… don’t stress over a lil thing like transferring it’s probably the easiest part, now talking to a financial aid advisor can be somewhat difficult

Just submitted my TAG to Davis. Hopefully we get decisions before November

^ last year it was

Riverside (November 5)
Santa Barbara (November 8)
Irvine (November 10)
Davis (November 12 (a.m.))
Merced (November 12 (p.m.))
San Diego (November 15 (a.m.))
Santa Cruz (November 15 (p.m.))

^^ If you know you are qualified for TAG, then you are in. Simple. Why wait for decision? Go make yourself a cup of coffee and hit the books for this semester.

Folks that TAG to SB and SD are those who should be worried because their Fall GPA decides whether their TAG is valid or not…

Oh trust me i know. I’ve been blessed with that Type A personality though lol

Hello everyone, I have 2 new questions that I could use some help with.

My unofficial transcript online says I have a 3.20 (when including non-assist classes) but on my TAG it says 3.19 (including non-assist classes) does anyone know what’s up with this, it’s .01 off. The same thing happens for my assist only GPA too (3.29 on transcript and 3.28 on the TAG. Because of this I really really really really hope everyone is correct about them only counting assist/UC certified classes)

Did anyone use the comments area on their TAG form to say something like, “I included classes that are non UC transferable so please don’t count those or I will be really mad and/or sad”

I believe kitty has a thread about this glitch, but whatever, the GPA that appear on your TAG is the one will be used, not the one on your transcript

Are you even serious?
Admissions know that a lot of people need remedial courses before they can move on to UC-transferable class

Thanks Sparkyboy,

By the way, does anyone have the actual university TAG document that says the UC GPA is the only one counted because I haven’t read that anywhere.

Hey guys, I took a non-transferable math class which was algebra 2… but when I put in the name of the course, does it really matter how I do it? In my transcript it says INT ALG. but in my schedule it says intermediate algebra…so does it really matter which way i put it down as?

thanks a lot…weird question lol.

^ Put it as in your unofficial transcript. If it uses abbreviation, you should use the whole word as it appears on your school’s catalog. Ex: One of my non-transferable class was in web design. Transcript says: CSI 45: Intro to Web Dsgn, but I put in the whole thing CSI 45: Introduction to Web Design: HTML & CSS. Hope that helps

It seems that the more I research this the more close calls I have to being disqualified. Which brings me to ask, what does it mean on that pdf when it says…

Majors that require major preparation

(for UCSB) All majors in the College of Engineering, including Computer Science B.A, and all Economics and Biological Science majors in the College of Letters and Science. Strongly recommended to complete lower-division major preparation for all other majors; see [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) for details.

What does that mean? Do I have to do the assist classes before I TAG?

^ I don’t even understand your question, let alone answering it…
Kitty, or anyone out there, help meeeeee

thanks for the reply sparkyboy. I also had to take a non transferable english class but in the schedule it says English Fundamentals…but in my transcript, it says just Fundamentals. What would be safer in this situation? thanks a lot

Sparkyboy, never mind i found the answer.

s&t, poor guy, you havin a lot of issues with TAG.

do you have a counselor? did you just recently learn about TAG?

i don’t really know where to begin. but see, engineering and science classes are UC’s are like “in demand”. it’s like a fight between a lot of students for those majors. Engineering because they want to become engineers, and Sci classes because they probably want to go to pharm/med/dental school. I am pre-dent but i am non trad, i am cool off wasting my time and killing myself over a bio major when i can just do poly sci, actually learn something about what matters most (the world we live in) and on the side take my pre-reqs.

no offense to those taking science classes, I give you props, because they are very rigorous courses.

but anyways the way UC’s distinguish the “better” candidates, is by advising to take as many ASSIST courses as you can. Those with HIGHER GPA’s and ASSIST courses completed obviously will be more prone to get accepted, following to those who have HIGH GPA, then possibly one or two missing ASSIST pre req, and so on.

So thats why they are suggesting and really advising you to take as many pre-reqs as you can. Because if you don’t you are probably 50-60% going to get rejected, because there are students who REALLY WANT to get to that school and that major for whatever motive and have completed those courses.

Hey guys anyone here have gaps in education like I do? How long do you think the explanation needs to be?

For example, I was in the military and have a gap of three years in education, in that box can I just write “I was enlisted in the military at this time and was not enrolled in college”

There’s another gap after I got out of the military, mostly due to time and money, can I just write:
“I got out of the military in 2007 and got a job as a Tech Support Analyst, during this time I was learning my new job and readjusting to civilian life.”

Any one been in this same boat that can let me know what they did would help a lot, I have all of the coursework filled out, now I just have to explain the gaps.
TIA

Thanks UCkittychen,

I know quite a bit about the TAG, I guess I am just amazed by the amount of things that need to be just perfect for it to work, but luckily I think I am good.

For me, TAG = Hail Mary Pass

USN_Transfer, I don’t know how you would fill that out, do they give you like 500 words or a sentence or two? If I were you I would definitely call up your CC counselors office and make an appointment for next week or something to get their view on it (or even better, call the admissions office of the university you are applying to)

I enrolled at a different community college in my city, but dropped the course before class began. Officially took 0 units at that school but am still registered, so I am paranoid that they might just run a quick search and find that I am registered at that college and didn’t report it.

My question is that should I just report that I was enrolled but dropped before classes began in the additional comments section for the TAG or just leave it alone?

^ No, I’m in the same situation, just dropped an online course that hasn’t even started yet lol (This is confirmed by one of the counselors at UC Davis). You don’t have to report a no-grade-of-record course (drops within 4 weeks). Otherwise, even if it’s a W or IC or whatever, you will have to report it

Thanks Sparkyboy!!!
