♠ 2012 UCSB Transfer Decisions Thread ♠

Lol nvm just read the article

@samurai: I’m not talking about UCM. I’m talking about UCR. Maybe they’re not BRAND NEW but they look new enough. We received a housing packet today.Chelz is talking about UCR also…

@ Citiz3n: Yeah basically. There were a bunch of them on UCLA’s waitlist and they received a financial aid email that basically said something like “once again, congrats on being accepted etc etc”. lol. wah wah wahhhh.

Apparently this happens pretty often I guess? I mean we all know about the UCSD incident in 09 but apparently in 2010 UCSB did the same thing. I was not aware of the UCSB mistake.

@idizzle will you be getting any financial aid? im just hoping mine will cover atleast some of the fees when I move into whatever housing there is at ucsb or wherever i end up going. It’s really a shame I don’t even have ucr on my radar…their apts remind me of those new homes over at valencia. This is why I’m hoping I’ll be able to get into a closer school like LA…they probably have my acceptance/denial letter all ready to go right now for the 20th

@ Chelz: Yeah I did apply for financial aid. I’ve only received the award for UCR so far, they gave me 22k. Which is not bad since tuition is about 15k for the year. But the rest will probably go to books, gas food, and at most a first months rent until I can get my first paycheck at a new job. Same here, UCR’s apts are nice but still not enough for me to go there. lol. If the speculations are correct hopefully we’ll know our fate from UCLA next weekend, and hopefully its good news.

@iDizzle ohh that’s around the amount I got. I got 21,500 ish and my EFC is a 2. About 8k is from loans and work study so it’s pretty bleh for me. Btw, did you accept your award for UCR? I’m not sure if I should or not though. Obviously I won’t be SIRing to UCR but I heard it wouldn’t affect me in anyway if I accepted it. But I’m pretty skeptical. Hopefully you can get that job at the apple store if you decide on coming to SB. But hopefully we’ll get into LA

I also received a housing packet

Was rejected by UCSB because I have too many credits. I had thought that only applied to students who attended a 4 year school and then a CC…I was right! I attended a private 2 year school for 1 year (American Academy of Dramatic Arts) prior to Santa Monica College (CC). I was told by admissions that they did in fact make a mistake and to appeal( which I did right away). Now I’ve been told I have to wait for all the applications to be reviewed and then they do the appeals!!! They made the error (we all make mistakes) but now I have to wait, seems unfair. I paid to apply and feel like I 'm being punished…argh!

Major: English
GPA: 3.5
4 semesters of foreign language.
IGETC done this semester ( 1 science class)
Lots of EC’s
Upper level Lit classes English 3,4,5,6

@ Chelz: Yeah, and a bunch of loans. I’m going to TRY not to take any of those if I don’t have to. Can you even accept an award package if you don’t plan on attending the school? What happens? They give it to you and take it back if you don’t attend or something? Yeah, I’ll be living with my gf too so the rent/food deal will not be entirely on my shoulders and there’s plenty of places for a part time job in dt SB. I kind of want to work at the Barnes and Noble. =]. But yeah hopefully I can get into somewhere closer. But the way I see it, unless I get into LA I’ll have to go somewhere far. I’ve kind of ruled out the possibility of going to Irvine. I’ve decided to stick with the comm major(UCD,UCSD,UCSB) unless I get into LA’s anthro program(or Cal’s but I’m not counting on it). Although Irvine being closer is appealing and its near my parents so I can go visit. lol

@backinthegame: Aw man that sucks. So what happens now? You’re not completely out of the running are you?

haha, whoa IDizzle, you’re Anthro too? So am I. except for SB I just changed to philosophy. UCLA is for anthro though, doubt that I will get in. Just found out I got into American University though. No financials listed yet, I heard they don’t give too much. Would be cool to be in D.C.

Question: How do you find out the reason you got rejected?

@Talludwig718, I heard you can call them and ask. But I’m not sure.

Your application to the University of California, Santa Barbara for Fall 2012 has been received and evaluated. I regret that we are unable to offer you admission. Based on the number of transferable units you have accumulated, you would be a senior. As noted in our admission materials, UC Santa Barbara rarely accepts students with more than 130 units. In our assessment, you will not have sufficient time to complete our undergraduate curriculum within the allowed number of units.

We suggest that you continue your studies at your current institution or another four-year college or university to complete your undergraduate education.

Thank you for your interest in the University of California, Santa Barbara. Please accept our best wishes as you accomplish your educational goals.

Sincerely,

Christine N. Van Gieson
Director of Admissions

@backinthegame: Youre a transfer with 130+ units?! And they didn’t accept you because of that? I’m close to 130 but I was accepted.

I have 145.

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: TAG

@idizzle. Nope, they assured I will have a fair shot.

@Backinthegame: You must have been at CSU and CC combined transfer or something? If you’re a transfer applicant applying from a CC, you can have 23432432 units and it wouldn’t matter. I don’t get why you were rejected.

@Acoustickitty123 I was rejected because the school I attended previous to Community College (American Academy of Dramatic Arts, which is accreditted) was looked at as a 4 year school, when it is in fact only a 2 year school. They only offer an Associates Degree. UCSB admitted the error and they are reevaluating my application.

@backinthegame Good!!! Yeah. Something sounded too fishy.
