♠ 2012 UCSB Transfer Decisions Thread ♠

@idizzle: Yeah I also deff do not want to live in isla vista. Not really looking for a party atmosphere. Near downtown would be nice. And I currently work at Tillys and could easily transfer to the one on state street.

Dang IDizzle, that’s cool. I will try and transfer to Whole Foods, it sucks cause my department is hiring in SB right now, but Im not ready to leave yet. :/

@citiz3n: Yeah, there we go! That’s one of the perks of working retail I guess, you can always transfer stores =]. And me neither, just trying to graduate so I can make da moneez again.

@ norcal: another +1 for retail and transferring stores i guess! lol. This will be my first retail job which is kind of weird since I’ve always worked in a corporate setting. It’s going to be much harder for me having to deal with clients/customers in real life as opposed to over the phone. At least over the phone I only have to SOUND like I’m listening and paying attention. LOL.

Let me tell you retail sucks! The main benefit is that it’s really flexible. So that helps while going to school.

^^ Either way its only going to be for 2 years. But I like the flexibility. I used to work 8-5 mon-fri. The only thing I liked was that I had weekends off to do hw. lol

funny though. My friends in retail worked the same number of hours but only worked fri-sun and had the rest of the week off. Kinda sounds nice.lol

Yeah I’ve been in retail for almost 6 years so i think that’s why I hate it so much. I would love to have the weekends off. Ahh, someday.

^^ Yeah, I worked wholesale for 5 years. The only thing I really liked was how the hours were set. Which means I could schedule around it without having to worry about being called in at a different time or something. I had to quit eventually because my remaining IGETC courses were only offered in the morning/mid-afternoon so my job wouldn’t allow it.

Oh, received UCRs transfer housing packet today. Damn, their transfer student apartments are LEGIT! lol

How much is housing at UCR?

Prices range from about 300-1000 a month I believe. I got the same packet today iDizzle and they look pretty cozy…and those lame residence hall dorms are what? like 12k a year?

Chelz and iDizzle, do all UC that you were accepted to send transfer housing packets in the mail?

At SB it’s 14,000 for a single, thats 1550 a month! Might as well rent a one bedroom or studio.

@iamsocal i only got one from ucr. haven’t gotten one from ucsb though. and it’s not even a packet. its like a catalog with the apartments and stuff.

@citiz3nerased 14k for a single in the dorms at sb? wow

a single dorm at most UCs are generally around 13-15k…

who would go into dorms when you can get a campus apartment for like 500 a month? these campus apartments look pretty nice and spacious too

I know, so much! They have these university apartments that are like 533/700 a month, but it’s 4 people in a 2 bed and it’s a lottery system

@ chelz: Yeah they look nice. They’re actually legit apartments at a decent price too. I guess UCR and UCM are probably the only 2 UC’s that have the luxury of building these nice new apts because they have so much open land around them .lol

Yeah SB is going to be expensive either way, that’s why I’d rather just get an off campus apt. If I’m going to pay that much for a place to live I’d rather not have RA’s policing everyone all the time.

@ Iamsocal: I’m not too sure if all the UCs send out something like that. I didn’t apply for any student housing but received one from UCR regardless.

Also did anyone see the news just now? Apparently some freshmen got the shaft. UCLA busted a UCSD on them. LOL!

@chelz: Yeah they look brand spanking new! The catalogue is nice, it gives you all the different floor plans for each community. I’m impressed. They even have homes for your whole family. lol

@iDizzle what new apartments are you talking about that is at UCM…

@Chelz, where were you able to find a UCSB campus apartment for around $500, I find that somewhat low for being SB…unless its ghetto jenky apartment…can you post the link I would be interested in a $500 apartment

@idizzle- some frosh were mistakingly “admitted”??
