Mayhaps, but UCSD doesn’t admit by major - you get into the school, and if there is no room in your major, you are entered as ‘undeclared’ or with a pre-major status. However, non-impacted majors don’t have caps, so you enter a non-impacted major regardless of pre-req completion. There isn’t competition in majors unless it’s impacted/has a limited number of slots.

Aw :-/ I forgot that UCSD doesn’t admit by major. I know I’ve said this A MILLION times but how the heck did I see people with 3.29’s get in last year without TAG? I saw more 3.3’s get in than 3.25+'s.

^I find those that claimed to be accepted last year with below a 3.5 extremely questionable, especially because I was told directly by an admissions officer that the non-TAG GPA cutoff was 3.8 last year. Maybe there were exceptions to the cutoff, but that’s what I was told after calling to ask why I was rejected to my non-impacted alternate.

Dilapitatedmind: I also called about 3 months ago and they told me the same thing. I asked my counselor about the 3.8 cutoff and she giggled. That’s ridiculous though. If lying was ever the case, how could about 200 people with 3.3+ lie about getting accepted to UCSD without tag…it’s just absurd. Meh, guess we’ll just wait and see.

There is always hope! Admissions last year was crazy, and we have no idea what things will be like this year until decisions start rolling in. Even if there is a hard cutoff, there are always exceptions and exceptional applicants. You really don’t know what’s going to happen until you see that acceptance/rejection page. I feel like this sort of thing is very difficult to accurately predict, and the most rational thing to do is just work hard and hope for the best. OTOH, I am also incredibly nervous (like everyone else) - and I’m finding it difficult to follow my own advice.

UCSD primarily accepts by GPA. So, if you’re UC eligible (7-course pattern, including 2 English + 1 Math + 60 semester units), then they look at your GPA and major pre-reqs.

Here is a breakdown of how they evaluate transfer apps:

Same here! Saaaaame here. I’m trying to stay calm…I’m trying really hard but I can’t lol! I just keep reading old threads and that gives me hope. :-)

I did NOT complete IGETC and won’t be completed by Spring 2012…hopefully that doesn’t work against me. Although I did personally know a couple of people get accepted without IGETC completed. STILL HOPE! LOL

There were some higher GPAs with TAG that got denied admission. Some of them speculated that they were accepted into Berk/LA so they were thrown out?

Interesting hypothesis but I’m sure it’s false. Lets also remember that there will MOST LIKELY be very little non regents/honors admits tomorrow… I really hope I get into the first batch then I can stop worrying so much about having to stay one more year here…
