Does anyone know exactly how many days after sending the SIR they email about housing and orientation? I SIR’ed in the morning yesterday and haven’t received anything yet.

Also there are no more singles left I called and asked yesterday… not very fair they should have saved some for waitlisters. Oh well…

I have also been accepted off the waitlist (on Wednesday 6/12) in the Econ major.
I’m not 100% on accepting the offer though. For the past month I had been set on UCDavis. I paid the SIR fee, paid the orientation fee, paid the housing deposit, and even bought a bike.
How much (if any) of my money will be refunded? I’m close to $1K in the hole. I’m also concerned about housing, will waitlist-ers have guaranteed housing?

Also, as an Econ major, is it worth choosing UCSD over UCD for just the prestige of the econ program/school?

@pollitos Same here. I’m thinking of just sticking with Davis because I feel more at home there. I also want to know if housing is guaranteed for waitlisters at UCSD.

Yes housing is guaranteed. An on-time housing application has been turned in for you if you were accepted off the waitlist. The deposit ($100) is not refundable. However the orientation fee should be and I’m not sure about housing.

Thanks for the timely replies.
I called the UCSD admissions center and they told me to call the housing department to make sure (#858-584-4010) but said that he was pretty confident that I would be OK as far as housing was concerned.

@fantastica: I feel that I would enjoy the atmosphere better at Davis, but SD is closer to home and comes highly recommended by my previous econ professors.

@Ddark12: hey I got the email about the housing two days after I SIRed so it should on your way pretty soon! congrats on SIRing what college are you in btw? and are you going to live in the village even though they’re out of singles?

@pollitos: I was in a similar situation with you but I haven’t paid for orientation or bought a bike, I guess I just wasn’t ready to commit to Davis yet. They’re both really great schools I applied for Econ myself but Intl studies-Econ in SD. I heard that the econ program in SD is really good so I decided on SD. I hesitated throwing away Davis but I just can’t imagine myself far from the beach and the city lol. Unfortunately I’ve never actually visited both schools, but I’ve always wanted to try living in Socal :)

If you did the UCD housing, you can get a refund for the reservation fee. I’m currently in the same situation and have to choose between UCD and UCSD. I already did everything for UCD and I have to decide if I should drop everything and SIR to UCSD. UCD is close to where I currently live whereas San Diego super far away!

@strawberrywafer: A lot of people from this thread told me that they called/emailed the housing reps to ask and they all said the singles were all out I wanted to call myself but my phone just died lol

btw which UC are you leaning to right now? all this talk of people torn between UCSD and UCD is making me anxious all over again, I haven’t really cancelled my SIR to Davis because my dad still wants me to go to Davis instead but i want SD… I’m from Norcal so yeah moving to SD would be quite a hassle but my family doesn’t live in the states so it doesn’t really matter.

Well I just called the housing center and they let me know that when we submit our SIRs they will send out housing emails. I didn’t ask about singles/doubles availability but the pricing seems very reasonable (compared to Davis, 10K at SD vs. 14K at Davis) plus it includes a meal plan.

@adriecali: I live in SoCal, and it’s pretty awesome. I kind of wanted to get away by going to Davis, but it’s hard to give up the city lifestyle.

@strawberrywafer: How long do you have to decide?

The psych program is totally underrated- it’s ranked higher than most UC’s and ivies in various disciplines! Gotta love it! I’m not sure as to how many I have left but I wanna say I have finished most of them. How about you? The one downside is that I need to take calc. and I am NOT looking forward to that! Are you doing pre med or anything special like that?

@adriecali Aww. I would have liked a single. I’m kind of leaning towards UCD because it’s close to everything going on in my life right now and mainly because I want to be close to my SO. But part of me wants to go to UCSD too mainly because it is ranked higher. Probably neither of those are very good reasons to base my choice upon. I’m really having a hard time deciding which school to pick.

@pollitos I have until Sunday to decide but I don’t want to wait that long because I’m afraid housing will run out of space. The pricing is really good at UCSD! Even the difference between double and single is not that much which is why I really hope they still have singles available.

@strawberrywafer: Best of luck with your decision. Think it through and have no regrets.
I’m going to take a walk and then come home to SIR at UCSD. It just makes more sense for me, personally.

@Ddark12: oh I’m in Marshall yeah I guess the village is a good deal. I haven’t really looked around for the apartments near campus. I’m moving from an apartment so I have to figure out where to put my bed, TV and desk lol

are we allowed to choose roommates or is it going to be random?

“Room Assignment:New for this year! Incoming transfer students will be able to self-select their housing space for the 2012-2013 academic year. Information regarding room assignments, roommate requests, and the self selection process will be sent in early July to those who complete the housing contract process. Please visit the [UC San Diego Housing - The Village, Room Assignment](http://hdh.ucsd.edu/thevillage/roomassignment.asp) page for updated information. *If you have any other questions about living at The Village please contact The Village Residential Services Office 858-534-9830 for more information.”

I’m assuming that if you pick the same room you’ll be roommates. Haha.

Yeah you can choose your own roommate. I’m moving from an apartment too but I gave away all my stuff lol. Staying at the Village seems really good especially because of the meal plan, making food is a pain… at least for me, and apartments near campus are pretty expensive so the price difference isn’t that much if you factor in the meal plan.
