Hey everyone! Seeing as the 2016 UCLA and UC Berkeley transfer threads were already created, it was time for UCSD’s to be created! Post any questions, comments or concerns in the comments and hopefully we can help each other get through the admission process!
@Hardworker223 I’m not entirely sure as I won’t be applying for the business program. I do know that UCLA’s anderson school and Berkeley’s Haas school definitely top UCSD’s. I have heard of people applying for SD’s business program and talking about it a lot, however.
@potassium39 LOL YO SAME. i focused my time for prereqs on other UC’s but I heard that SD isn’t really anal about preqreqs. As long as you have IGETC done, they admit you based on your cumulative GPA (unless you’re an impacted major… THEN they’re anal about classes)
What are your guy’s stats?
I am not 100% sure if I am going to apply but…
I’m a business / Econ major
I have a 3.89 gpa but a 4.0 major gpa. I have some leader ship postions in clubs relating to my major and in student government, etc.
My essays are 8/10 so far but still got a few months to make them legit.
@Hardworker223 you’ll get in for sure. no doubt
i’m applying as a psychology major. so far it’s 4.0/4.0. don’t have all of SD’s prereqs though.
do you have them all done?
@Hardworker223 yeah it’s weird. the UC’s have very differing requirements… have you considered applying as a different major to those other schools? (similar major that you will have the classes for)
major: mechanical engineering (maybe chemical engineering, not sure yet)
In-state: Yes [so transferring from a CA CC]
IGETC: no
major prep: calculus 1-3, linear algebra, diff eq, all physics series, all general chemistry (1 and 2), matlab programming
EC: various clubs (math, chemistry, stem, beach volleyball, 2020 a year without war)
…volunteer: in some of the clubs above, math tutor when in high school, built houses in 3rd world country
GPA: 3.41 or 3.51 if it all goes well Fall '15 semester
My essay should be good
Planning on applying to UCSD, UCSB, UCI
Do you guys think I have a chance? would my chances be higher for ME or CHE?
@hesantos UCI yes UCSB and UCSD may be. All I can say is finish your IGETC or at least get partial IGETC( two or less courses missing) That will help you a lot when you transfer. I am not sure about UCSB or UCI but at UCSD, if you do not have IGETC you’ll be in same level as a freshman. Good Luck!
P.S
Also all engineering majors at UCSD are impacted and it is very hard to change it once you get admitted. However, I thin you’ll have a better chance as Chem E but don’t take my word!
@zcarfaz the thing is I wont have time to finish IGETC because I’m trying to transfer in 2 years (which would be next fall) and all the required courses would be done, so if i stay another year, they would be non-relevant classes or just 2-3 to finish IGETC.
I actually started with chem e but lately I’ve been having second thoughts. Once I transfer to a 4-year, I won’t want to change. I think all 3 UC’s are impacted for engineering and why would you think it’d be easier as a Chem E? Less applicants, more spaces or less competitive GPA wise?
And yeah UCSB is more a long shot, they were really well ranked for Chem E last year so their applicant pool is going to be way more competitive this year
I’m new here and I just had a few questions about being a transfer.
I’m a Political Science major who currently has a 3.38 GPA. I had a 3.93 GPA first semester and then a 3.03 second semester because my Economics class dropped me. The rest of my grades weren’t really that bad, but it looks super awful. I’m extremely worried that I won’t get accepted.
My question is “Will they will look at only my GPA from my first year, or if they will look at my Fall 2015 semester GPA also?”
I’m an intern for a congressman so that’s a good EC I think, but I’ll try to do more. Do you think I have a chance of being accepted? How about wait-listed? Please be honest guys!
I also have 2 W’s because I took one econ class during intersession and a calc class during summer. But it wasn’t during a semester, it was during an advanced time.
One issue you have is they like to see an upward trend. They will look at fall grades. But wouldn’t it be prudent to retake the course that brought you down this fall?
Also, I’m not quite sure how you went down so far if they dropped you from the course. Do you mean F? That’s not a drop. That’s a fail. A W is a drop.
Hey!

Major Prep: yes, all will be done by spring
GPA: 3.74 or 3.82 if this semester keeps on going smoothly

Is it really that important for all majors to finish the IGETC for SD as some of you are saying? Because as far as I’ve heard, engineers get a break on that… And Good Luck to everyone!
