what about going from a 3.08 to a 3.3 in one semester? does that show that i’m hardworking? :/

I think so too. And a big plus is that his major is not impacted. But the TAG obviously helped and gave him an early admission notice. Woo!

UCHAPPYTRAIN: Definitely. It does. But it also matters what major youre applying with. It doesn’t matter if you go from a 2.9 to a 3.3 if you’re applying as a bio major since biology is really impacted.

my major is history, def not impacted. i haven’t seen any history majors accepted yet though so i’m kinda worried.

@uchappytrain I’m a history major and I got accepted. I posted my stats on page 16

There has been atleast one or two history majors admitted.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/14035635-post232.html

It doesn’t matter though, SD doesn’t admit by major unless it’s impacted. So, if you are a Chem major or History major you have the same chance. You only have to worry if you are a Bio major or a few majors in engi.

Don’t be worried! Just hope for the best. Last year, someone with a 3.3 no tag History was accepted to UCSD amongst all those TAGers and high gpa applicants. Every year is different but I feel like this year it’ll be more organized. I have a good feeling you’ll get in…along with me (I have a 3.34 Sociology major).

Is UCSD the only UC that DOES NOT admit by one’s major?

@acoustic thanks((: I have a feeling you’re def going to get in.

@sld I havent done any pre reqs bc none are articulated at my college. there’s only 3 courses that are pre reqs though right?

blahhh when are the next batchessss…

previous pattern says early april, gahhhh.

You’re welcome UCHappyTrain You can find out the Pre-reqs on Assist.org. I don’t really think UCSD cares about finishing pre-reqs or not. ONLY if your major is impacted that’s when they’ll look at how many pre-reqs you completed.

@Chelzmcnamara: GOOD question. "Is UCSD the only UC that DOES NOT admit by one’s major?
Can someone answer this question please?

yeah it just seems like it’s more difficult to get admitted when your competing against all those hardcore 4.0ish science majors instead of just competing with people within your own major :(. but if anyone knows please tell us thanks

[University of California - How applications are reviewed](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/transfer/reviewed/index.html)

^ You can click on whichever UC’s you applied to and see how they evaluate transfer apps. UCSD is the only one I see that says in black and white, “The campus does not select students on the basis of academic major or choice of UCSD undergraduate college.” However, I think most UC’s don’t admit by major, but instead admit you to the college and then place you in a major. It’s pretty easy to change to whatever major you want (non-impacted) once you’re accepted to a UC. The UC’s are more concerned with how you PREPARED for your intended major.

Thanks for the link Jdom24. Do you know if they take a look at your major courses? Like I got two A’s in my pre-req classes…I was wondering if they will even bother to look? I heard only UCLA and UCB do that but I don’t wanna give anyone the wrong information.

thanks jdom really helpful. what surprised me was this…:Location of the college and your residence is factored into their decision making

Hi, I was wondering if there is a log in for UCLA or whether we just receive emailed information?

We will just receive an email

@Acoustickitty123

Yup, every UC goes over your reported schedule in it’s entirety and looks at every single college course you have taken line by line. They decide which classes transfer and then use that to calculate your UC GPA, GE’s, major preparation, etc. So, they have absolutely looked at you major courses.

@Chelzmcnamara

Yah, but you really only have to worry about that if you didn’t go to a California Community College or you don’t live in Cali. It just means you wont get top priority amongst the applicants if you’re not a Cali resident and CCC student. It’s not like if you don’t live in San Diego County you can’t get into UCSD or something.

right. thanks jdom

I’ve taken courses for my major that are considered pre reqs to other UC’s but for UCSD none of them count. on assist it says “no course articulated” for each pre req. but I think it says that there are only 3 courses required. can someone take a look and tell me what you think? my cc is chaffey college my major is history b.a. and its transferring to UCSD
