** 2012 UCSD Transfer Decisions Thread **

@nsws1631 I also believe that I would have been accepted despite TAG. I have been told by many different counselors that Universities like to see a student recover from a critical low point.

Has anyone tried to fill out the information on the application checklist? I tried the housing APp, it crashes. I tried a few different things actually, they all crash. Maybe I will have to wait till later in the week when all the hopefuls stop refreshing the site.

@UCHappyTrain: I just looked it up and noticed that there are maybe none of the pre-reqs offered at your CCC that UCSD wants you to complete before you transfer. They’ll understand. It’s not your fault your school doesnt offer these courses. Maybe once you get accepted to UCSD, you can go to another local CCC and try to take at least one of these courses over summer to get it out of the way.

@Amidda1217

I did the housing app yesterday just fine. I can’t get past the second page of the echug though, it just goes blank. I’d just give everything a few weeks it’ll probably work in a bit.

@acoustickitty okay thank you(: yeah if I get accepted I’ll try to do that

would they know if my ccc didn’t offer any pre reqs though?

^ Yes.

xyz123

Yes they would definitely know. I heard they use assist.org religiously.

Also, amidda, I agree with that. I went from a 2.96 to a 3.38 (including winter). Maybe about 40+ units of A’s helped lol. And a 3.3 is good for your major. My counselors told me im pretty much in. Well see

@Acoustickitty123 Yeah, I have learned it is much easier to get good grades than to recover from bad ones. 6 semesters of nearly straight A’s was a lot of work. Not to mention, two of my semesters I carried more than 20 units. I think I will stick with getting good grades the first time now that my GPA is restarting =)

20 units is a lot (I’m taking 24 now and it’s a breeze) but so well worth it! :-)

@uchappytrain I totally forgot how UCSD does pre-reqs (for history at least) differently haha

so yeah just ignore the gpa I put for my pre reqs :P

I hope you guys are talking about quarter units. 20+ semester units would be crazy. I’ve taken 18 units before two different semesters and it’s tough.

Not quarter units; Semester units :slight_smile: If you’re taking Ochem and 20 units, yeah that’s crazy. But if it’s easy A classes then it’s doable.

^I’ve pretty much always had to take lab classes, so that’s kind of what I was think of. I’ve had 3 lab classes General Bio, Physics - Mechanics, and Ochem along with a 3 unit English class in one semester and I have no idea how my GPA got out of it unscathed. It was pure luck lol.

Still 24 units seems pretty intense. Even if they’re easier classes it seems like it’d be hectic during finals week, possibly having 3 or 4 finals in one day.

I seriously hate this wait. I feel as if especially with SC/SD coming out my anxiety has hit the roof. My stats are extremely similar to those who got accepted in at SD and with tag; I feel like because I wasn’t in on the first batch (being it fairly large too) I have not gotten into the “obvious” admitted student batch. How are these put out its obviously not GPA for SD.

In regards to SC I’m worried that many have gotten in with lower stats however I’m less worried as I know many well rounded folk that haven’t gotten in with TAG, SC is also a more forgiving campus…

SD is my “true” back up plan; maybe I’m just freaking out… I remember someone saying that they got into SD in the last batch and had a 3.95 or 4.0…

EDIT: This is a rant… :/

@sld122 okay lol you scared me for a second. congrats on your admission btw!!

So are rejections from SD always in the very last batch?

@thePavin

You shouldn’t be worried if you weren’t in the first batch. I think it has a lot to do with your major. Last year for UCSD there were a lot of acceptances the last week of April and there were a lot of what you’d probably assume to be no-brainers, 3.8+ students getting in. It seemed like it was for the more popular majors Biology, Engineering, Communications, and Poly Sci that ended up last. Those that got accepted in the first batch this year seemed to share a few common traits, they were mostly humanites/social sciences majors, TAGed, and 3.5+ gpas. If you didn’t fit into all 3 of those categories then I think you don’t really have anything to worry about as there’s still about 5000 acceptances left to be released.

@uchappytrain
The rejections tend to be late april. Last year’s second batch for UCSD came out around April 23rd I think and then there were some acceptances/rejections a few days after that.

DilapidatedMind: Yeah, I dealt with 4 finals a day once. And I’m actually taking classes at two different schools! It’s not really a big deal…I’m used to it that’s why. But I can see how hectic your schedule is :open_mouth: By the way, how is O-Chem? I’ve heard it’s really difficult. Are you doing pre-med? I’m guessing since you’re taking Bio and all those other classes…

@ThePavin: I don’t know why you’re worrying. There are people here will FAR LOWER gpa’s than you. Don’t worry too much. You tagged so I dont see why you should be worrying. Decisions will come out faster than you’d expect :D

@uchappytrain Thanks!

What are your stats btw?

I always thought the notification of decisions were really just random…besides TAGGERs but I guess the 1st batch are always for “obvious” students like pavin mentioned…so I guess the later batch you are in, the less likely chance you have of getting in? ugh
