Wowm, what schools haven’t sent secondaries out yet? Dd waiting on Vandy and Northwestern and she was verified a week or so ago.

I’m not going to post her list on a public forum in order to preserve her privacy (and she asked me not to), but if you’re really interested, PM me.

^ I fully agree with you that such a list should not be posted especially before the application cycle is over. (The exception is when the poster seeks helps from others to come up with the list of schools to apply to.)

A few years ago, some SDNer talked too much about his list of schools (worse, his application status and opinions of the med schools) on Sdn, and he claimed that a med school found out their school was not his first choice and cancelled his interview invite as the school was not willing to continue investing their time on such an applicant based on the new information they happened to find out on a public forum.

Of course, I could not validate his claim but he was a long time SDNer when he claimed this unfortunate event on SDN. It is better to be safe than sorry.

I myself may not be always that wise. I had better to be careful myself.

spring162…Vandy screens so not everyone gets a secondary.

You can use the link in post #520 to find the current status of any medical school.
As soon as secondaries or IIs go out, it will be noted in the school’s thread.

Observation/Suggestion…matching suits for females in navy and charcoal are a lot harder to find than I thought they’d be. There are tons of places that sell men’s suits but not many for women. I know in the 90s ladies suits were readily available. I guess few women wear them anymore. Several places sell ladies’ blazers but not a matching skirt. (Slacks are a bit easier to find albeit still difficult.) So, word of advice, don’t wait until the last minute to get a suit if you’re a girl! We did find exactly what D wanted, but we went to several malls/stores all over our large metropolitan area (2 full days).

Ann Taylor, J. Crew, Banana Republic all sell women’s suits with both skirts and slacks. Also Talbots (though their sizes start at size 4–too big to fit either of my girls.) and Black & White. Nordstroms and Macys both carry women’s suits. (I bought my most recent interview suit at Macys 3 years ago.)

If you mention you need the suit for a job interview–BR will give you a 15% discount. (FYI Ann Taylor matched the discount when I took D2 suit shopping last month. D1 got her suit off the mark down rack at BR–and she still got the discount on top of the mark down.)

When D2 was involved in debate back in high school (and was required to wear a suit to competition), her debate coach suggested Ann Taylor. We’ve had great luck with them.

D1 interviewed in a charcoal slack suit; D2 chose a black skirt suit.

D2 is having more trouble finding button downs she like to wear under the suit.

And girls— here’s a tip: if you choose to wear a sleeveless shell-type top under your suit for warmer month interviews, please, please, please do yourself a favor and use dress shields into your jacket so you don’t need to dry clean your suit every time you wear it.

Bloomsburg Businessweek has a great tip here: [Summer Beauty Tips: Problems Solved - It’s Summer! And You’re a Mess - Businessweek](http://images.businessweek.com/slideshows/2013-06-27/summer-beauty-tips-problems-solved#slide5)

WOWM…We looked at Banana Republic and J Crew (didn’t go to Ann Taylor). Perhaps the stores in our area were simply out of stock. Like I said, the blazers could be found but not the matching skirt, and D prefers a skirt to slacks. D found a blazer she really liked at Brooks Brothers and was able to locate a matching skirt with some effort. We did see a couple of navy Calvin Klein suits at Macy’s after we had alread made our purchase. D liked the one she got better so it all worked out for the best. Thanks for the tip about the dress shields!

^^Part of problem may be timing. The summer stock is being moved out, but fall/winter stock hasn’t been received. I think that’s why D2 can’t find a long or 3/4 sleeve button down to go with her suit.

BR had navy, black and off white suiting separates when D2 went looking. Sizing was kinda hit & miss, but when D2 asked for a specific size not on the floor, the clerk got one from the back room.

Suggestion - very easy to buy a black blazer + bllack pants + black skirt of similar material. That is what we did.

D also had good luck at JCrew (15% student discount) and BananaRepublic (sometimes 40% off on Wednesdays?) and purchased jackets, skirts, and pants. The pants and skirts were worn during certain rotations and all items were worn again during residency interviews. She was glad to have purchased ‘good quality’ pieces that fit her well and lasted four years.

Wishing you all the best at this exciting (and stressful) time.

you can always try ruelala and gilt if you’re willing to shop without trying it on.

For men, I recommend Men’sWearhouse if you’re on a tight budget. The suit I bought in winter 09 in preparation for the 09-10 application cycle is still in great shape. It’s been through many interviews, weddings, and other formal occasions.

I think that’s why they fired the CEO. The suits are lasting too long and people are not buying more. :p

^People wear suits much much less than couple decades ago, I guess this is the reason why they are lasting much longer.

Well, we now stand at one quick rejection, one II. Life has a way of evening out, doesn’t it? I guess it’s off to Men’s Warehouse for us…

Congrats on II.

Ouch on instant rejection. (It really does rankle when you get the feeling that the school only let apply to get your $$$.)

I also love Ann Taylor, BR, and JCrew. Their student discounts are awesome (15%) but last I’ve checked they no longer apply on top of other sales (bummer). I bet 85% of my “fancy clothes” are from those 3 stores. My interview suit was from Macy’s. The tops I wore with it (all sleeveless) were from Ann Taylor. Shoes from Nordstrom. JCrew factory (even online!) is a lot of fun. LOFT (Ann Taylor) is less expensive and less dressy, but I’ve had plenty of luck finding appropriate tops and skirts and slacks there. I rarely buy things full price at LOFT because there is ALWAYS a sale for 40% off everything.

Congrats on the II, enjoy the season!

UrbanGardener, congrats on the II. And it stinks that there’s already a rejection. But if the success rate is 50%, you’d feel the process is a success. Could you have guessed?

Lands End also has women’s suits.
