Yes yes yes GSOMTMom and MTMajorCook! You both read my mind!

CCM said they are seeing 646 and hoping for a class of 18 with about 25 offers total going out.

Anyone hear anything from CCM yet?

I’ve only heard of “no decisions” or “nos” going out from CCM so far.

Break a leg at CCM! My daughter had a wonderful experience. She is Dramatic Performance, but I met some great MT kids and Moms. And we absolutely love the school.
They auditioned 69 MT kids the day we were there, but they all seemed like they were having a great day.

Oh! And D was accepted into the BFA Dramatic Performance program. Auditioned 1/11 and heard via “Checkmystatus” on 1/15 with a snail mail version today.

I was looking forward to being able to finally contribute to this thread this coming Thursday when my D had a regional audition in SF for Marymount Manhattan. She just received an e-mail canceling the audition. They are unable to get out of NYC due to the storm! They said they would use their pre-screens as their audition. Majorly bummed here :-(

LoveMyMTGirl - How frustrating for you and D! The build up to auditions is intense and now…

We are flying to NYC on Friday, and son and Dad are flying to Chicago a week from Saturday and Weather.com and Accuweather sites are getting a work out on my laptop! I’m glad my son had a few pre-screens in case we end up in the same boat! Break a leg to your D!!!

LovemyMTgirl. That stinks! It doesn’t seem quite fair to me. The pre screen isn’t as long as a regular audition is it? Did they offer for you to audition at any other time?

LoveMyMTGirl,
That’s so disappointing about Marymount Manhattan!! You mentioned that they’re going to use your daughter’s prescreen- I didn’t know they had prescreens. My daughter didn’t do one.

dramamom0804, yes they did offer a spot at one of their other regional auditions in either Denver or Atlanta. We are now considering going to Denver in early March. My BFF lives there, and I owe her a visit, so I could be easily swayed!

broadwayorbust18, Marymount requires a prescreen for their regional auditions. If you audition at the college, there is no prescreen required.

BALL STATE UNIVERSITY

I auditioned for Ball State University’s Musical Theatre program at Chicago Unifieds almost a year ago and I cannot speak any higher of the process.

The professionalism and kindness I experienced before, during, and after my audition stood out from every other school I auditioned for. The department didn’t treat me like a number, but like a young performing artist that they could possibly work with for the next four years. The faculty took the time to not only investigate my talent, but who I am as a person as well. I felt so comfortable in the audition setting and really felt like the faculty was invested in making the audition process as relaxed and enjoyable as it could be.

I was assigned a 10 minute time slot and there was a dance call on all three nights of Unifieds at 5:30. This was convenient for me because I was able to do my dance audition on a different day than my singing/acting slot for scheduling reasons.

The audition requirements were, and still are, ONE song (16 bars) with another one prepared and ONE monologue (1 minute) with another one prepared.

All of the faculty were present in my audition. The voice faculty worked on a song with me, while the acting faculty gave me some corrections as well.
This put me at ease and gave me a sense of what working with the faculty would be like if I was accepted.
The director of the program was present in the audition and was really easy to talk to and made me laugh in my interview. The faculty ask you questions and really take into consideration your answers. It was one of the only schools that I felt wanted to get to know ME through the audition process.
The accompanist was fabulous. She wasn’t just playing the song, but really assisting me in my performance with dynamic and everything. It was wonderful!

I hope that anyone that is scheduled to audition or walking in at unifieds has the same pleasant experience that I did.

Break legs everyone!

We went to CMU for the Jan. 18th Audition on campus. The details that were posted by DoReMiMom are accurate and fair. We arrived at 8:00 am for check in, the current students chatted us up and gave us small amounts of information while they compiled manilla envelopes for each kid including the materials they brought plus snapshots of each kid on that day. The directors/professors introduced themselves, 5 in all, and split the kids into audition groups. My daughter was in the first group. The parents were invited on a tour of the Purnell Center. The tour lasted longer than the audition. As I was standing on main state listening to our guide tell amusing stories, my daughter was texting me saying it’s over, time to go home. She auditioned her songs with Gary, who commented positively throughout and gave compliments, and she auditioned her monologues with Kathy (?) who asked her to repeat her Shakespeare monologue but this time as if her director was nuts and wanted an over-the-top opera. My daughter had a moment to compose herself and begin, and the director laughed and gave approval to the improve performance. There was a small amount of chat between my daughter and the professors, I am not sure if that counts as an interview.

SLEEPING BAG WEEKEND: We stayed for the sleeping bag weekend, which to me was a huge plus for several reasons. We have friends who were talked out of the SBW because it was not billed as theatre-centric, but my daughter met some of the other auditioners and got to chat about auditions past and coming up and exchanged contact info so that they can keep each other abreast on news as they go through the winter audition process at many of the same schools. She had a blast staying on campus and making friends and running around - there was plenty of entertainment, and they even took a bus to Squirrel Hill for an eating tour of Pittsburgh. The best part was that the next day she go to sit in on three classes with the same group of professors that was auditioning them then previous day. She had personal conversations with all of them, including with Barbara, and the professors got to see the kids in action in class. I am sure that they separate this interaction from the audition, but it must reinforce the kids’ faces in the minds of the professors, so if you are deciding next year about SBW - do it. No brainer.

CCM

Great weather here in Cinci…NOT. Snowed all night we woke up to about 6 inches and horrible roads. Fortunately we stayed 1/2 mile away so we made it on time. Arrived around 7:30AM. Everyone auditioning met in one of the auditoriums . The head of admissions spoke for a while. There was to be 75 auditioning for MT today, 9 no shows due to the weather I am sure. Admissions said 642 will audition for MT this year, they will accept 25 to yield 18. They are unsure of the split yet. She said it is really evening up between girls and boys. They took all the kids down to the dance call, the heads of the departments were there. They split them in 2 groups to learn the number then brought all together to audition. They danced in groups of 5. S said it was a jazz combo and he enjoyed it. After dance Aubrey Berg spoke to the group and then they changed for their auditions. S was number 2. A current student takes your resume, gives it to the auditors and stays in the room. The monologue is first then both songs. They asked S several questions including “can you tap”. He said they were all very nice. Decisions from this date will be made Tuesday the website will be updated Friday afternoon…S’s 18th birthday and the day the high school musical cast will announced. What a day! All and all it was a quick and painless process. We were done by 10:30. Staying in Cinci again, we just aren’t sure about the weather for the trip home.

MTMajorCook, be super careful tomorrow–I drove my boy up to Westerville from Charleston WV today to start his second semester; took us over 5 hours for what’s usually a 3-hour drive, and the temperatures and wind are supposed to be intense tonight! Not looking forward to my slog back to VA tomorrow. I feel for all of you enduring this rough winter, as last year’s audition trips were smooth sailing for us. Stay safe, and BAL with remaining auditions!

But did you get a donut?

Puma69 - MTMajorCook and I met today in person! I just love CC! We did not see donuts. BOOOO! I think the bad weather and the U of C campus being closed because of weather may have put a wrench in some of the places being open.

LOL No I did not get a donut. I can say PPU had great danishes and so did Rider! I did find a vending machine at CCM but alas…no donuts in there either! Was great to meett DoReMiMom and 4broadwyboys today. Forgot to mention there was a girl from Austrailia auditioning today, how would you like to make that trip and not get in?

Thanks Times we heard Columbus was bad, so we decided to stay and we heard a few reports from home that snow was coming down. Hoping we have better luck tomorrow. My parents went back to the casino, S and I took a nap now we are just watching TV.

Dang! No donuts!!! Hoping there was a libation involved after. SO glad you guys met…was there a secret handshake? Weather sucks all over! Safe journeys home for all.

Funny story there too! We sat right next to each other, DoReMi mentioned being from PGH and being at NYU I said “are you DoReMiMom” She said “OMG Yes” When I told her who I was she was shocked because she thought I was a man LOL! She said “My D said what are you doing” She said “Looking for MTMajor” LOL too funny. I met 4broadwyboys husband at BW, unrelated to CC, so I was easily able to find her. When I met SField at Rider I told her I’d be wearing my PGH Steeler Hoodie…so she found me.
