There were three people who posted about getting in to Emerson last year (and seemed excited about it see:<a href=“Decisions? - Musical Theater Major - College Confidential Forums”>Decisions? - Musical Theater Major - College Confidential Forums; ), but no one put it on the final decisions list for 2018).

Yes, The D was one who was accepted to the Emerson MT program and didn’t have the negative experience that others did, but she isn’t there now.

Hmmm

This isn’t exactly the same but…My D auditioned for Point Park at Chicago Unifieds. She was accepted and went to “Accepted Student Day.” She loved the experience she had at the audition but didn’t like the feel of the program once she was there for the day. She declined based on that.

For those that auditioned and/or have applied to Baldwin Wallace: I know I need to get my application, prescreen, and audition fee in before I hear about an audition, but do I need to get my SAT scores sent before I can get an audition? Thanks!

Your SAT scores go instantaneously as soon as you order them.

Also, am I required to do the essay on the Conservatory Supplement where I request a date, or is that just for music majors?

Yes on the supplement essay for BW. We had everything in before scheduling, including recommendations.

Montclair was a bad audition experience for us. Communication from setting up audition to final results was poor. the on campus day was very unorganized - I think the only school that didn’t offer an overview or any introduction of any sort. We wanted to run away The other 12 were good/great!

Day 1 of Moonifieds: arrival, check-in. Workshop by Penn State, Rider & Otterbein. All have been wonderful, but I found myself literally sitting on the edge of my seat listening to Dr. Stefano. The kids are riveted. You could hear a pin drop if the room weren’t carpeted,

Addicted2MT, I’m pretty sure the new Otterbein acting professor, Lenny Leibovitz, is also at Moonifieds, and word from current students is that he’s a fantastic teacher. Hope things go well for you guys this weekend!

^Yes, son has said that Lenny is a wonderful professor! In my interaction with him, Dr. Stefano was incredibly kind and wise, and that meant the world to me as a parent.

@addicted2MT, my daughter absolutely fell in love with Dr. Stefano. She thought he was such a kind and sweet man.

@Times3 - yes! Lenny L. Is here as well. My D already likes him a lot as well. In fact, after the workshop was over she walked up to them like a moth drawn to flame and introduced herself to them, shook hands and said something along the lines of “I can’t wait to audition for u guys.” they made her day by simply replying, “Likewise!”

I second/third the comments on Lenny Leibowitz from Otterbein. My S absolutely raves about him and feels so incredibly fortunate to have such an experienced, dynamic acting professor his Freshman year. Lenny is directing the spring musical “Into The Woods” I can’t wait! My favorite statement from Dr John is “If you expect to portray real people on the stage, you actually have to know a few”. He was referring to how theatre kids all hang together in packs and he was encouraging them to interact with others outside the “theatre world”.

I was hooked at an admissions info session, when Dr. John told kids (and parents) “we talk about every student, every week.” Nobody falls off the radar; every student is known, and known well. In such a highly personal field, it’s wonderful to have a highly personal undergraduate experience.

It is a good feeling to know son is in a caring community, as well as receiving excellent training. He is connected to his theatre family and has also joined a very inclusive fraternity. He tells me frequently that the faculty are very supportive. He is very happy and content :)

Moonifieds Day #2:

D had an overall wonderful day. A few schools were poker faced (with all kids) but most made her feel “wanted.” some were even downright flattering.

Day started bright and early at 7:00 am with vocal warmup by Balwin Wallace.

8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. - College auditions on second floor of Dallas Hilton Park Cities Hotel. Kids had a large “green room” where they dropped off their bags, and hung-out with one another.
Parents were not allowed to accompany students to second floor, but we could drop off any forgotten items with a staff member who sat at a table just outside the elevator doors of the second floor. This worked out great as kids took charge of their own audition experience and had their own safe space to chill, but could stay downstairs with their parent if they so desired. Most did not. And we heard they were helping each other and being quite supportive of one another in the green room.

The mommas and a few dads hung out downstairs and checked their phones constantly for any texts or updates from their kiddos. The day went smoothly even if some rooms/schools were ahead of schedule and others ran as much as an hour behind. Everyone was told not to freak out if one of their auditions ran late and threatened to conflict with another, to just go to whichever was ready to see them first and then go back to the other. No one worried too much after that and the kids adapted and regrouped as needed without undue stress or concern.

Every kid (just about) came out of the Otterbein audition feeling like they did great. As they only take 4MT of each gender, we all realize this still means most of our kids (if any) will not get in; however, coming out of an audition feeling positive is never to be taken for granted and puts the kids in a great place mentally as they walk into their next audition.

For schools that this was a live Prescreen, only Penn State lets them know right away. Those who passed walked out with a card to contact Shannon Ritter to schedule an audition. The D was one of them. Yay! :)

7:00 p.m.- Dance Call was late (we adults assumed the kids were tired after a long day) but they were troopers, full of excitement and adrenaline. The D liked the combo and felt good. All schools had reps at the dance call taking notes.
