So... just wondering if any 2013 RD applicants got likelies.

If you did... CONGRATS!! If you got one, i'm sure it's well deserved!

PLEASE do not feel compelled to post your stats. I'm not looking to compare myself to others. I'm just curious if anyone got them, considering the fact that the other Ivy League threads are buzzing with likely letter recipients and Yale seems to be lacking a nice little "likely letter" thread of its own.

Yeah I was thinking of making this thread as well. Either way it really does not matter, we are going to find out in 15 days so it should be okay.

I posted something a while ago saying I got a likely but no one else had at that time. The letter I got said there were only about 100 sent out so I guess most of those people are not on CC.

A "likely letter" is a letter sent from a college indicating that that student has caught the eye of admissions committee and that he or she stands an EXTREMELY good chance of being accepted to the school.

Basically, it means that you're accepted to the school unless you royally messed up.

Yes, they truly exist :). If you look at forums, esp. for Columbia, Cornell, and Dartmouth, you'll see that a fair number of CC users have gotten likelies.

Congratulations to you all!!! And also for those of us who did not recieve a likely letter don't worry, from what i hear only about 100 or so were sent out and it is VERY possible to be admitted to Yale without recieving a likely letter. And at this point it is probably unlikely that anymore likely letters will be recieved because we find out in two weeks.

The vast, VAST majority of RD acceptees get in with no likely letter. They tend to go to the top recruited athletes, top science students, and less frequently to top musicians. There are probably people who get in who don't fit one of these three categories, but those are the ones I've seen most frequently.

Likely letters are to attract an applicant. I mean, if he is SO GREAT, he may have applied to the h and Columbia and Penn and MIT. The letter grabs that student and tries to put the school (Yale) at the top of the "colleges to go" list.

I received mine because I was recruited for hockey. It is the only way I can commit to an ivy league school to play hockey and know the school is also committing to me.
