"2013 Sloan Fellows Announced" (news item)

<p>Princeton</a> University - FACULTY AWARD: Five Princeton faculty named 2013 Sloan Fellows</p>

<p>Alfred</a> P. Sloan Foundation</p>

<p>Each year since 1955 the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has awarded fellowship grants to the brightest young scientific researchers across the country. This is one of the oldest and most prestigious of scientific fellowships.</p>

<p>"These awards are intended to enhance the careers of the very best young faculty members in specified fields of science." This year a total of 126 fellowships were awarded in seven fields: chemistry, computational and evolutionary molecular biology, computer science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, and physics.</p>

<p>MIT with its heavy focus on the sciences and Berkeley with its excellence in many fields including the sciences are the two universities that have had the most impressive showings over the years. </p>

<p>Harvard and Princeton are just behind these leaders while Stanford, the U. of Chicago, Columbia and UCLA come in next.</p>

<p>This year, MIT led the nation with 6 Fellows followed by Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, Yale, U. of Toronto, Stanford and UCLA each of whom had five.</p>
