2014 Acceptance Rates

@wykehamist: You may be right but I don’t think we should use last year’s numbers directly. I suspect more admission stats will come out soon.

Adding the sources to the list of schools with confirmed admit rates for 2014 (pre- WL movement). Please add other schools here when you find their admission stats.

St. Paul’s School: 163 admits out of 1623 applications. Admit rate = 10%

Wow was super competitive this year!

Deerfield website article from Dean of Admissions says rate was 14.3% and that they were over enrolled last year so had fewer spaces this year. Lawrenceville admission letter says it was less than 20%.

^^Could you provide the link to the Deerfield article?

The numbers I’m most interested in are the numbers we’ll never get: what was the admit rate for Full Pay, Domestic, Sporty kids? What percentage of applications are coming from overseas vs. the percentage of international students that the school admits? The schools don’t talk much about how they need Domestic Full Pays, and that number has not been growing in recent years.

it’s very hard to gain admission to these schools, and you should feel very proud if you did. But there’s more to the story behind these numbers, and it’s a more complex issue than mere percentages.

Yes, I too am very interested in the admission stats on Domestic Full Pays over time…

Based on the “stats” posts, I suspect that the admission rates for domestic full pays are remarkably encouraging and that the rates for domestic can-pay-littles are so dismal that we ought not to have wasted our money on applications.

Misinformed about Deerfield.
I can’t find the article mentioned to me. Sorry. Lawrenceville I read with my own eyes, but it’s not very specific.

Peddie school acceptance rate is 23%

Does anyone know anything for Millbrook & Holderness for sophomores?

Hello all: I was at the Andover revisit day this past Monday. Dean of Admissions Jim Ventre said in the opening speech that the 427 acceptances that is widely quoted in the previous posts applies to ALL acceptances, not just the 9th grade incoming class.

So the 427 includes PG, Grade 12, Grade 11, Grade 10 and Grade 9 admissions. From the school profile, it looks like Andover adds 65 students to its Grade 10 class, another 36 to its Grade 11 class and finally another 30 for PG/Grade 12 class. Although its impossible to calculate admission rates for only Grade 9, but in my estimation it appears to be well below 10%.

More of the math for Andover. Since 338/1125 (30%) of students are applying for spots in Grades 10-PG, assume that 70% of the 3049 applications (2134) are for Grade 9 entry. Since Andover’s historical yield is generally around 80%, assume that of the 207 open spots in Grade 9, a total of 248 acceptances were offered. This means that the acceptance rate for Grade 9 is approximately 248/3049 = 8.1%.

These are estimates of course, so take these with a grain of salt.

Oops. Sorry for the math mistake!

PA’s website says each year they receive roughly 1600 applicants for 9th grade and matriculate 220-225 (14%), 600 applicants for 10th grade and matriculate 75 (12.5%), the remaining 800-ish applications come from 11/12/PG applicants of which 25 new uppers and 30-35 new seniors/PG actually matriculate (roughly 7.5% combined).

Of course this merges the acceptance rate and yield rate, but if 79% is the yield across the board (and who knows if that is true?), then the acceptance rates would be 17.7% for 9th, 15.8% for 10th, and 9.5% for 11/12/PG combined.

If you look at the school profiles over the last several years, you can see that there is some fluctuation across classes each year. On revisit day, my husband thought he was told there would be 18-20 new uppers in total at PA next year, but my daughter doesn’t remember that statistic being given.

Dont understand why folks are trying to determine the specific admit rate for 9th grade.

 • It cant be used for comparative purposes as you have to guess for all the other schools too. You would be comparing garbage vs garbage.
 • Doesnt seem useful as a tool.to determine which grade to apply to either. Thats a VERY important decision and should not be left to an analysis based on numerous assumptions
 • Is to show that even though we both got into Andover, I as a 9th grader had to overcome greater competition than you, a 10th grader?

This is an interesting thread, but lets keep it to facts.

…which people are trying to find.

At the Andover revisit day my AO said the admission rate for the 9th grade boys was 11%

I wonder if it was lower for girls. Thanks for sharing, @Andover2018

Congrats Andover2018!
I wonder what the admission rate for 9th grade boys was for Exeter.
