Merry Christmas to us! Early BFA acceptance to Ohio Northern for the S!!!

Congrats!!

My D just got her acceptance in the mail. She auditioned in Chicago on Feb 4th

My D got her acceptance packet in today’s mail - but we already knew because she got the letter with the Presidential Scholarship offer on Thursday - which prompted me to call admissions in confusion on Friday morning. They verbally confirmed she was accepted, and asked us to wait through the weekend for the packet, and to call Monday if it still hadn’t arrived. Even though they mailed the scholarship offer 2 days after the acceptance - it beat the acceptance by 2 days! If any of you follow posts in Point Park - you know that this is not our FIRST problem with acceptances coming by US Mail!

Congrats. Looks like our D’s have the same two schools so far in play…

Congrats. My D was thrilled to be accepted. It was her first one. We live in Texas but my mom and sister live in Columbus so if she decides to go there she will have family close by

Congrats all! My D auditioned 1/18 on campus. ONU wins hands down for best hotel of the audition season. We felt totally spoiled, and were able to WALK to the audition from the Inn.

My S auditioned at Unifieds and really loved the faculty. We are planning to visit the campus during Spring break . The tuition is high so we are hopeful for a scholarship.

Congrats to all of you. My D is a freshman at ONU and loving it. Let me know if I can answer any questions

@rcpurple can you give us some inside information on the program. What are your D’s classes like (ratio, challenge level, flexibility, schedule). How many are in her “class” (14, 20, 30??). What are the faculty like? How is the campus, the dorms, the food? What performing opportunities has she had; will she have? Have they had any Master Classes or Guest Artists? Do they have some type of Senior Showcase? Thanks in advance!

Lots of questions, I sent an email to may daughter so she can respond to me. I will message you when she gets back to me. I do know they have master classes and guest directors. I can tell you that the campus is very pretty. Dorms are no better or worse than any of my other children (this is my fourth). They have guest directors and Master Classes. I know one of the fall classes is on their website. Go to ONU and search for “wings” (wires to wings)

@rcpurple Thanks…I’ll look forward to your daughter’s response

@MTMommaJAA I know that they do have Master Classes frequently. Next year they already have Billy Porter and a few others lined up. That was shared with us when we talked to Jeremy at Unifieds. I would also love to know what size the freshmen class ends up being. I thought Jeremy stated they were shooting around 15? when we talked to him. I saw the master class on the fly system…it was really neat.

And instead of doing a senior showcase, they take the kids for a weekend to NYC and have them work all weekend with one agent group. The reasoning is that schools are overwhelming the MT community with Senior Showcases, and no one of importance really shows up anymore (except maybe an old guy in the back row or a secretary) so the showcases aren’t really as valuable as they once were.

My daughter wrote me a long email on her freshman experience with ONU, Just message me and I will share it with you. It is positive but truthful. I know one thing that makes my husband happy. (he still has a hard time understanding an MT major, lol) She really liked her PR class and after talking with an advisor in the department she thinks she can handle it a double major in PR. It will be a challenge academically but in a small school there is more help available to try something like this.

My D and I just made our plane reservations to go visit the campus. We will be there April 12th to see Footloose I’m ready to cut loose. We scheduled a visit on campus on Monday April 14th. My D is excited to see the campus and the musical theatre department and so am I. I have family in Columbus so we will stay with them.

My D was accepted for BFA MT yesterday ~ We are REALLY excited about this one! The more we learn about it, the more we realize this is such an impressive program. Congrats to everyone who was accepted and enjoy your visits!

We are visiting the campus on 4/7. Very excited!

@redscorpion6 Have a great visit Please share your thoughts when you return. I would love to hear them

My daughter and I visited 2 weeks ago. She auditioned in a group of maybe 15-20 students. They said it was one of the larger on-campus auditions and it was the last to be held. The faculty there (the three females) were a definite strength. We stayed for the parent meeting, the three of them were very collaborative with one another, seemed genuinely interested, and they were all lovely, really. Because I’d read a lot about John Armstrong on these boards, I was in hopes to meet him, but we were told he was leaving the department, and pursuing acting in NYC (and he was there when we visited ONU). They seemed sad to be losing him, but definitely felt as if they had strong candidates interviewing.

We were there on a horribly cold, bleak day with tons of leftover snow piles … we thought the Freed Center was very nice. There were some students manning the parent room during auditions, and a particularly engaging male MT student (junior/double major in PR) was the perfect person for this job. I really enjoyed hearing his perspective on absolutely everything to do with ONU. He is the dance captain of Footloose, and he is just adorable (and sharp!) Really wish I could have seen the show.

My daughter auditioned as BA Theatre - not BFA. The faculty talked to her extensively about her hopes and new opportunities within the department which aligned with her interests.

Most of the schools my daughter is looking at are way out in the middle of nowhere…but Ada, OH is definitely waaaayyyy out in the middle of nowhere. lol. If you are cool with this, I think the school is appealing on many levels. The housing also looks so vast to us, when compared to the enrollment figures. It went on and on and on…seemingly, a ton of housing options.

These are just some random observations - but my main one is that the people at ONU were its biggest selling point for us :-)
