2014 Fall UCSD Transfer Decisions Thread

^ who said this?

@JN1994 There was someone in this thread who was accepted into the first batch with a ~3.0. Can’t remember which page and too lazy to go back and read through everything, but that just shows that they take the time to read the essays and look at our extracurriculars. Unless it’s confirmed information, I wouldn’t worry about it.

@transfer14, <a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors;

page 8 and 9 say that UCSD doesn’t take personal statement into account for admission; however, I still think to a small extent the personal statement is taken into account

@bhav007 I don’t know. I agree, but disagree. I feel like a lot of factors play into our decision. Of course, GPA is at the top of that list, but every year (and we have the previous threads and friends/family to prove it) there are students with perfect GPA’s who do not get into UCSD. We’ll see how it plays out this year in a couple of weeks.

Accepted.

GPA: 3.91
Major: Economics

@transfer14ptl
the person who had a 3. o g p a was part of the university link program at ucsd which guaranteed acceptance for a person 3.0 and higher

I KNOW this because I was accepted through this program last Sunday with a gpa of 3.6

Ok I am not applying for UCSD this year but I have the information that a lot of you would like to know. I talked to a new counselor at my CC about admission to UCSD last week. He told me up until last week he was working at the office of admission at UCSD. UCSD doesn’t care about your major pre-reqs completeness. If you don’t finish it then you will have to take it at UCSD which means the school makes more money!!! They look at your GPA and that it not even the personal statements. People with GPA from 3.10 to 3.29 will be waitlisted and eventually UCSD will accept all of the waitlisted, though there are exceptions. ( THIS INFORMATION APLLIES FOR ONLY TRANSFER STUDENTS). And yes,beside U-link and tag the local CCs have more priority. It’s your choice to believe it or not :). Just want t share with everyone !

For all majors??^

@JN1994 yes, I got an email that decisions were up, but I was a part of first batch realeased on Sunday

@boy561 can you elaborate more on “exceptions”? what exceptions are for those who are on the waitlist? Is it even 100% guarantee in for waitlist?

@Impatient2014 Well I found out on Monday at 3:30 in the morning, because I was up studying and couldn’t sleep.

To boy561, I’d say he’s right about the major prep thing, but only for non-impacted majors. According to a 2012 post from Ms. Sun, GPA is a huge deciding factor. Apparently, they put little to no emphasis on major prep for non-impacted majors relative to other UCs. Doesn’t mean you can’t get rejected anyway with a high GPA and missing pre-reqs. If you’re like me and paranoid, I’m sure you can come up with a million reasons UCSD might reject you. As for the waitlist info, this really changes from year to year. They may accept everyone from the waitlist one year, and reject everyone the next. Ms. Sun also had a post with stats from different UCs about this. I know some people don’t really trust her but take this info for what it is. Either it calms you down or works you up. It’ll probably work you up. This site does stuff to me lol

Honestly, it was basically a given I’d get in with TAG. I don’t really see how you can’t be accepted if you complete all the TAG requirements and have the necessary GPA. Perhaps impacted majors might be scrutinized more even with a TAG application but I haven’t seen a single person post a rejection who had one. My major is probably the least impacted there…so I wasn’t stressing. In regards to who they send notifications to on what day and so forth it’s all random. Good luck.
