2014 Fall UCSD Transfer Decisions Thread

Decision: Accepted

UC GPA: 3.7
Major Pre-reqs Completed (Y/N): Yes
Intended Major: Economics
TAG?: Yes
IGETC?: Yes

Extracurriculars (clubs, leadership, volunteer, work): Student Government Senator for 1 year, Economics tutor at my CC Student Success Center, Officer at the Jewish club, + past part time jobs.
Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes, not counting on it though.
State (if domestic applicant): CA
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Estimated Family Contribution(EFC)/Income Bracket: 17-20k
Attending Transfer Admit Day? (if admitted): Not sure

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected (strengths/weaknesses): I got rejected on Friday (like many people according to this thread) and got my decision reversed the following Monday (today). My GPA wasn’t very competitive, but I got A’s in most of my pre major reqs. I also tutor the subject I’m majoring in so that was a big plus. Student Government was tons of work (10-15 hrs a week, unpaid, for a year) so that’s a boost as well.
GPA was definitely a weakness.

@ocnative‌ I called like 20 times and they said “Please wait while we get you a live admissions officer…”, then I continued waiting. I feel like they’re so unprofessional and there literally is no reason for me to get rejected. Although I got into ucla, I still want to know why :(

Waitlisted
UC GPA: 3.38
Major Pre-reqs Completed: Yes
Intended Major: Human Biology
TAG: No
Extracurriculars: work part time, volunteer tutor, high school outreach
Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
State (if domestic applicant): CA
Gender: Female
EFC: $300

@Embellished I got rejected from UCLA’s Math-Econ major. It is less competitive than the regular Econ major but it requires a lot more major pre-reqs (Multivariable Calc, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Discrete Math, and C++ Programming). I too am considering writing an appeal to UCLA asking for the opposite but it might be a bit of a stretch since I’m missing like 4 pre-reqs and my GPA isn’t very competitive…

@Embellished I don’t think the college matters very much from transfers…

accepted
3.5
communications

@chaoscuber exactly same here. I got into UCLA meanwhile rejected by UCSD. I simply supposed that maybe they dont like my previous foreign unversity records or all pre-reqs of my major listed on their ASSIST page has literally NO match at all with courses offered by my CC (which r totally OK with all other UCs). Anyway, I wil try 2 cope with it lol~

I spoke with a UCSD rep today at my school and asked her a few questions about the waitlist. She said that opting in on the wait list earlier does not mean you will receive a decision earlier than others. She also said something about the cutoff for wait list was around a 3.48 but I’m not sure what she meant by that. She mentioned that last year the wait list was only for community college transfers and that the the lowest gpa admitted last year as a wait list transfer was a 3.13. Just thought I’d share this information

Decision: Accepted

UC GPA: 4.00
Major Pre-reqs Completed (Y/N): No
Intended Major: Computer Science
TAG?: No
IGETC?: Yes

I was wondering…Because I haven’t completed all of my pre-reqs, I may be looking at 3 years at UCSD after transfer…Does anyone know if UCSD puts a cap on the number of terms that a transfer student can attend before graduating? I want to know if I am being forced to graduate within a certain time frame.

Nope! @toepump They want your money

Has anyone tried appealing yet? I’m a current student at UCSD but my friend is looking to transfer here. He’s an outstanding student, with a 4.0GPA in Chemistry, but was rejected. I’ve never had to appeal so I’m not sure how this works. Any advice?

@Mik194 Thanks for the response! And yes I should have expected that they would want my money!

@scj1992 I don’t have any experience with appealing either…But I know that in order to appeal (at least for UCSC) , you need to include NEW material that was not included in the original application. For example, the appeal could include previously omitted extracurriculars, reasons for certain grades, jobs, accomplishments, hardships, etc.

If you don’t have new material, the appeal will generally just fall through…
Then again, I’m no expert

ggggguysss, anyone have idea that if ucsd accept a D grade.in the last semester?! helppppppp

and the D is not required or recommend

@movieguy‌ nooooo… My GPA is a 3.12. lol
