A week or two ago on this tread someone commented on the rudeness of the UCSD admissions staff and how it totally turned her off to the school. It’s funny because at the time I defended UCSD. But today I called and spoke with Davis, Irvine, San Diego, LA, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz, and everyone was super helpful and friendly EXCEPT for San Diego. Rude and almost childish admissions adviser I spoke with. The person I spoke with really has no business occupying the position she does. Just a heads up for those wishing to contact a UC campus for information. Santa Barbara was by far the most helpful and friendly, with LA a close second. If you want some kind of helpful information from UCSD, ask to speak with the admissions office janitor instead.

hey guys, i’m completely new to this thread and i have this question that’s been bugging me this whole time. I got accepted into UCSD for fall 2014 and normally, this would be great news but i read on their provisional contract that i had to maintain a 3.5 overall gpa to keep my admission. does anyone know what happens if it falls below 3.5 or know anyone who has been in this situation? I’ve scoured the past thread from 2013 and it seemed like no one was sure. Really hoping someone can help me out here cuz i reallyyyyy want to go to ucsd. the admissions person just gave me the standard ambiguous answer: “your app will be subject to withdrawal” which i interpreted as it might or might not be rejected.

some extra info: my gpa on the app was 3.7, econ major and i’m a TAG applicant. for anyone who wants to know, my gpa fell cuz i had to miss a huge portion of classes during the middle of the sem due to family issues and i never caught back up. i estimate that my overall gpa will probably be 3.4ish

Thanks guys!

Wow that’s tough. At this point, I’d try REALLY hard to get those As. I dunno what else to tell you.

@ddang1 Well if you violate your TAG agreement you are reconsidered as a regular applicant. You may still be okay if you fall into the community college acceptance GPA which I believe is 3.48 (not much breathing room I know, but better than nothing). They will look at your courses taken, etc. and make a decision whether to retract your admission or keep it. You can appeal their decision if they revoke your admission on the basis of new evidence (i.e. family problems, courses not added to your transcript originally, etc.)

I’m in the same situation. I’m a TAG at 3.51 now, and if i get 2 B’s and 1 A this semester I will be at 3.47 (0.1 away from the cutoff for cc transfers). I need 2 A’s and 1 B to be safe, best of luck, this info. was provided by an admissions rep from UCSD.

i’m confused, howcome you guys have to keep up such a high GPA? my provisional contract says i need o maintain a 3.0 UC gpa.

My provisional contract says “remain in good academic standing in your last regular term with at least a 2.00 GPA for UC-transferable course work for that term.”

@redgadget3 this is because @ddang1’s a TAG applicant. Since TAG guaranteed him/her admission, s/he has to fulfill everything that was outlined when s/he applied for TAG.

My daughter’s contracts states to keep at least a 3.0 GPA and at least a 2.0 GPA for UC-transferable course work for that term. Pass subject requirements with grades of “C” or better. Hope that helps!

@janig3, @bigbyrd, @redgadget3 - We are TAG applicants as @anavera said. You’re contract is different from ours. We must maintain a 2.0 this semester as well as maintain the TAG minimum GPA which was 3.5 this year. Although the GPA this year for SD was a LOT higher than previous years, I think they might be a little bit more lenient with us, at least I’m hoping :/

@HHenryGGGGG they do accept it but you have to retake this class at UCSD. also make sure your overall GPA is above 3.0 with the letter by the end of spring. Just to make sure just call them and ask them…

Just submitted my SIR! See you all in the fall!

I’m so jealous of all of you!

So who else is anxiously awaiting the wait list?

hey guys back again @Marmaneous appreciate the info you provided from your rep. but here’s something interesting. i LITERALLY just got off the phone with an admissions officer and this is what she told me. “if you do not meet the requirements for tag, then we will change your coding to a normal applicant and then see if you make the 3.0 cutoff for them. if yes, then you’re all fine” curious about what everyone thinks about this? i might be overthinking and appear cynical, but i just think it’s weird how admissions officers are giving conflicting info. Don’t know which to believe. or i could just be misinterpreting what she said.
any thoughts?

Anybody in LA attending Transfer Day tomorrow??? my car is not starting, and i need a ride!! anyone???

@NewGen Check craigslist or maybe Greyhound

@ddang1 well that surely does give me some light of hope however it kind of doesn’t follow through with what TAG is originally for. I actually as well talked to ANOTHER admissions rep to get another view on it and although this rep didn’t give as much information as the first rep i spoke to did, there was a consensus on how the process works. Your rep seems to have been telling you that if you don’t abide by TAG, you’ll be changed to a regular applicant and for UC’s all regular applicants must have a 3.0 to even apply, however the last part of that sentence is questionable. I will try and call again and talk to another rep and see what they mean by this. thanks for the info!

Accepted: UCSD
Rejected UCB, UCLA

Hi guys, I have a quick question. So I was accepted to UCSD (yay!) and for the uc application I filled out last year I indicated that I wasn’t planning on taking any courses in the summer before transferring (same thing for the transfer academic update). However the opportunity to take Japanese in the summer came up and I’ve always wanted to take it but never had the time for it until now. How do I let UCSD know that I want to take Japanese I in the summer at the CCC I am transferring from before attending UCSD in the fall? Thanks in advance for the responses guys.

@toastedsub94 you can take summer courses prior to attending UCSD however you will need a second set of official transcripts after you finish in order for it to be evaluated. It will not count towards graduation units needed but will allow you to continue through the sequence of whatever subject it is. I think that’s how it works but you can call and ask!!
