same! yale is just perfect in all respects, but i know that’s not true and that i’ll eventually be so happy at the school i end up (or so i’ve been told)

speaking of state schools, mine really doesn’t appeal to me. what are you guys’ non-state-school safeties?

My top Canadian choice is McGill in Montreal. I’d be perfectly happy to go there, and it’s pretty much a safety, as are basically all the schools in Canada.

Yeah, my mind sort of shifts between “OMG I need to be a Yalie” and “I’ll be fine wherever I end up.” Unfortunately, the Yalie side is dominant haha. For safeties I’m thinking U of Michigan and U of Wisconsin. Targets are Northwestern and Georgetown, I’m almost positive I can get into Northwestern based off of their stats friends who go there. There are some schools I’ll probably add to the list but I’m not sure yet. I’m the oldest so I have no idea what I’m doing!!

To rockermcr my friend is a Canadian citizen but lives in the US and wants to apply to U of Toronto. She said it costs $5,000 or something to attend, is that true? Because if so that’s crazy o_o

wow, what a prolific group, took a day off CC for volleyball practice, and come back to all this great discussion. I have my “on campus” interview at Yale on July 31st at 9 am…has anyone done this yet? What was it like?

Somedays, I will be like “Okay, it’s Yale or bust!” and I just want to head to UConn if I’m not admitted to Yale, but at the same time, it’d be really nice if I could attend a really fitting target school if they offer me enough money.

SO jealous of everyone who gets to go on college visits to YALE or princeton or any of the other schools I would die to go to. Too bad I live in the freakin South and all the schools i really really want to go to are like 20 hours away. =[
I know I’ll get an alumni interview with Yale and Princeton though because I had friends that applied there this year. I’m excited haha can’t wait to talk to someone who actually went there…I think it’ll be really fun. As a girl, every time I think about the interviews, I go off into lala land and start thinking about all the outfits I could wear and how I desperately need to go shopping…again. =] hahahah.

But yeah, tell us how Princeton goes! (forget who said this haha) I’m quite fascinated by it at the moment.

This thread is going fast…I was just gone last night and I came back and there was like 2 pages of stuff to read!
cavalier pup–hey! Northwestern and Georgetown are my matches too (hopefully) just based on all the people from my school that got in there. And Vanderbilt. Which may seem crazy, but I know A LOT of people that got in.
The only true safety I have is the state school haha just because I’m happy with it so I don’t really need another one.

Smile, I’m far away too, I’m in sunny old England. But I was planning to go over to visit friends anyway so figured I might as well combine that with some college visits as well.

And Northwestern and Georgetown are great schools too :)

Hey Smile that’s cool! Yeah, there are a handful of kids that go to Northwestern from my school, some are accepted to Georgetown but not as many. I haven’t actually heard a lot about Vanderbilt but they sent me some stuff a while ago… I know it’s a good school! There are so many, I’ve concentrated on Yale and my other reaches (Ivies, Stanford, gah!) and haven’t looked into more safeties or targets…

Yeah, I think everyone that I know that applied to Northwestern got in! Not as many applied to Georgetown, but the ones I knew got in. Haven’t heard of anyone rejected from Vanderbilt either so I’m gonna put those as my matches.
And yes, portugueseninja, I agree. Those are great schools as well. Would REALLY like to go northeast/east coast though…haha. Totally cool that you’re from England haha I looove yalls accent!

cavalierpup–Saaaame here! I’ve done a lot of research on most of my reaches (Ivies, Stanford too!). Too bad the acceptance rate is like .000001%. hahah.

emily–Read on the other thread that you might be applying RD instead? what are you recruited for? I’m almost positive that a recruited athlete gets a prettyyy big boost and your unusual EC is really cool!

haha, I love y’alls accent better! Most people here think I sound American though, I don’t know why. When I’m around Americans I sound very English and proper. S’all good though.

Where else are you guys applying if you don’t get into Yale EA?

rockermcr-That’s funny, the only Canadian school I’ve heard of is McGill.
2010emily and Demittasse-Yay! I wish you guys the best of luck on those interviews! I’m sure you will do great
Smile614-Haha! Totally agree, that (what to wear) is the part about interviews that worries me the most! Guys have it so easy
portugueseninja-I agree that is so cool that you’re from England! Haha, you sound American in England? That’s really funny! Which schools are you applying to in England?
chair2-I don’t really have a out of state safety (I have many OOS ‘matches’ though), but I’m from CA and most of the UCs are safeties for me, because admission is really numbers-based.

Hey Melody, if I don’t get in to any colleges in the US I’ll apply to Liverpool and Manchester in the UK, I’m not sure about anywhere else yet because I’m focusing all my energy and hope on the USA :)

Melody, Portuguese, smile, rocker
awwww. you guys are the best!!
Thank you all for the interview support!
and yes my name is Emily-oops.
I am in the south, too, and am driving 12 hours to get to Yale, uhhh, but it is worth it.

smile
I keep going back and forth between RD and SCEA, b/c I know I am a long shot.
I don’t think I will make it in the top 5 recruits at Yale in my sport, and that is the amount of spots the coach has to submit for, but I plan on trying to walk on anyway. :-)

Demitasse
Thank you for the link, I need all the help I can get!

Smile(I love your name)
Oh and what to wear, CONSERVATIVE, may have go buy something, twist my arm. :-)

^12 hours! Wow! Haha that’s love right there.

Thanks Smile and Melody! Haha omg I keep thinking about shopping too, it’s pretty fun :] For reference, I have settled on a satin chocolate-brown flutter sleeve top to be tucked into a high-waisted grey pleated skirt, and hopefully some accessories and shoes that aren’t too flashy but have some dose of personality to them. I wanted something that was polished but still represents me, you know? Otherwise I’d feel like someone I’m not =/ Tricky to find girl’s clothes too, lots of tops were low or too fancy and such!

The outfits you’re planning are for on-campus interviews, right? I feel like I should schedule one now… but I’m in the midwest and visiting Yale AGAIN is definitely not on my parents’ agenda. Ah well does this mean I’m screwed? :/

That’s totally true. I think the average was actually $4,000. There isn’t as much aid available here, but it’s still like literally 10 times less expensive. I think it’s twice, maybe three times that, for internationals, though (which includes students from the US).

I contacted the admissions counselor for Canada, and she told me that most Canadian applicants don’t get alumni interviews, because the number of students far outnumbers the number of alumni. Sucks. And I just can’t fit a trip to Yale into my schedule, so…

I haven’t been on since we began talking about interviews, so I guess I’m the best without having wished anything. Good to know.

But really, good luck. You’ll be great. I really don’t see alumni interviews as a big deal at all, so don’t worry. I was reading on CC that this Yale alum interviewer interviewed an applicant who he thought was the single most interesting he’d ever met (after decades of interview experience) and he included that in his report to Yale. But the kid still got rejected, so. They can’t be that important.

awhh i really like this thread, everyone is so friendly
hope yall stick around!

emily–haha thanks! i had the hardest time coming up with an username that didn’t have my actual name in it but hey, it’s my fav thing to do haha! …that and laughing.

It would really take us like 20 hrs to get to Yale. I don’t have time this summer and visiting somewhere that far during the school year is totally out of the question. I know interviews are that important…they’re like at the bottom of the list haha but i’m still SO excited. Actually, that reminds me, one of my fav teachers went to Yale…too bad he doesn’t teach at the high school. I would have to go out of my way to talk to him…hmmm. haha SOOO tempted. Maybe I can convince him to do interviews =]

Demiitasse (haha didn’t know you were a girl til you talked about your outfit ) haha that sounds almost exactly like an outfit I was thinking about!!! woah! except it’s a neon pink flowy shirt with some ruffles in the front and a high wasted grey skirt that hits like a few inches above the knee (it’s very modest I promise haha). and a few strands of pearls. But I don’t know…the neon pink is kinda bright haha! Might try a dark red/purple color instead…like a red-wine kinda color haha. The pink is more “me” though…and it doesn’t look as serious and uptight…makes it more fun but i’m gonna look SUPER girly. hmmmm. I can just imagine myself having a fashion crisis the day before my interview and calling up all of my girl friends freaking out and making them come over for 2 hours (hahahah and yes, that’s how long it takes us to find an outfit sometimes. it’s fun, we love it)
MAN. it’s so hard being a girl when it comes to clothes haha. I have dreams every night about shopping. that CAN’T be normal.

cavalierpup–of course you’re not screwed! we’re not visiting any of my top colleges because they’re too far away (we’ll visit ones where i get accepted to in the spring or something). and most people get alumni interviews from people in your area! :)
