2014 SCEA hopefuls?

itsbeenreal–Is that the book the movie Atonement is based off of? because i LOVED the movie!

I love him too. I want to learn German just so I can read Kafka. I’ve read The Castle, The Trial, The Metamorphosis, a bunch of his short stories, and even the letter he wrote to his father.

I haven’t read Atonement, but I’ve read Saturday. It was reeeally good.

WOAH LOOK. i’m a freakin senior member!! hahahah. i have GOT to stop posting so much.

Yeahyeahyeah, the movie is great too, but the book is AMAZING.

Rocker—why wouldn’t his books be in Czech? And I’m glad to know that McEwan’s other books are good because after reading Atonement I want to read them ALL

I like to consider myself a really well read person, as cocky as that sounds, it’s something I pride myself on. While all my fellow seniors (weird to say!) are busy reading Twilight, Jodi Picoult, and Ender’s Game I prefer to spend my time with Siddartha (Hermann Hesse), Milan Kundera (20 brownie points to whomever can name the Gilmore reference here), and Dostoyevsky…and J.K. Rowling ;)

Smile, you KNOW I would have been a senior member had I not had to delete my other account :frowning: We were like the only two 2010ers on here for most of last year. Sad, sad, SAD day.

omg sooo much to read lol

hmm, no accent i don’t think, i guess i might have a canadian one but i’ve never really known what that was. i’ve NEVER in my life ever said “yall” haha

for the last short take, are you guys like expanding on it or just simply stating the question?

itsbeenreal - heyy!! i’m a twilighter! and yes i do feel guilty and have tried to deny my liking for it for like a year but when edward cullen started creeping into my dreams like every other night, i could deny no longer…

yes saammee!! too often i start typing and i hit delete cuz ppl i know will see it. we could start it now i guess. if ppl wanna join in the future, we can just restart a thread - its not really a hassel once you have all the emails, i’ll even do it haha

LOL i just reread what i wrote and i abused “like” 3 times…which isnt tooo bad.

^ but you can never be sure…
and, sorry for this, but whats URM? lol, yes, im v.lost.
sigh. i dunno… this whole thing is COMPLETELY nerve wracking…
it hasnt helped that i’ve only slept about 2 hours today, lol.
to everyone who answered my question: thank you muchly!!
to smile164: LOL. yes, the ad campaigns LIEEEEE.
a) kangaroos are VERY lazy in zoos, but the joeys are still cute.
b) koalas are STINKY.
c) kookaburras are noisy, but bearable.
d) POSSUMS KEEP LANDING ABOVE MY ROOM AT NIGHT. SO NOISY.
completely unrelated, but i saw a RAT on my way from school today. SCARED ME TO DEATH.

So i was just randomly looking at this thread… I think I posted awhile ago, but if anyone has any questions, as a applicant last year, I’ll be happy to help.

URM = under-represented minority (basically all minorities except asians - sorry haha)

Also, if anyone is looking for some good summer reading that’s not too heavy, check out “Joe College.” It’s about a kid who goes to Yale in I think the 70’s or 80’s and is pretty entertaining… parts of it will give you a glimpse at college life, although it’s bound to have changed since then.

Thanks mythbuster! I might have to take you up on that :)

Okay, so remember how I said I e-mailed Yale to ask them when the hell they were putting up their supplement? So I got this e-mail back:

Dear *****,

The Yale Supplement is already available on our website, www.yale.edu/admithttp://www.yale.edu/admit</a>, as well as the Common Application website, www.commonapp.orghttp://www.commonapp.org!

Best,

John '12

FALSE FALSE FALSE COULD NOT BE FALSER! I see no indication ANYWHERE that the common app one is up, in fact, the downward-pointing, red triangle that distinctly says “Not yet available” should speak for itself. What?

And now they probably think I’m an idiot :frowning: Maybe they don’t know that they haven’t put up their supplement on Common App?

^GAH D:

Solittletime- I love Edward! He’s dreamy :] Hahaha I can see Rocker rolling his eyes. But I couldn’t stand Meyer’s writing. Gag. Didn’t bother finishing the series.

hahah twilight. totally obsessed in the 8th grade and then after my obsession was over, everyone in the whole world started obsessing. team edward! the movie sucks.

I like reading but I’ve been kinda behind on it all since I’m so freakin busy during the school year. Makes me quite sad, but I really try to catch up in the summer. I’m SURE i’m not as well read as yall.

itsbeenreal–III KNOOOOWWWW. rory’s graduation!!! (FROM YALE) she was like “milan kundera’s gonna be at our graduation” or something and lorelai’s just like “oh.” cause she didn’t see the significance of that haha =] you know i win at any gilmore girls trivia.
and yes, for sure. you would totally be a senior member! haha we were like the earliest 2014 SCEA people on here

solittletime–nah, I think I’m just gonna write the question. No explanations. Probably because i just don’t really think I have one to put =]

I check the CommonApp website every single morning. and every single morning i see the same thing. DEAREST YALE, i’m getting kinda sick of this daily routine.

:)

QUESTION: So I know Yale specifically said to not submit any supplementary materials unless you are truly outstanding. Stanford mentioned the same thing. BUUUT do you think it’ll help if I submit a music supplement to maybe some lower-ranking,not as selective as HYPS kinda schools? I’m not a music genius and I don’t want to be a professional music player but it’s something I do on the side, just for fun (so like half of my ECs are music related). My teacher could totally help me record a good quality CD if I wanted to.

suggestions?

^I think you should go for it! Other schools need musicians too :]
What instrument(s) do you play?

Kafka had a bunch of problems with his identity. He lived in Germany, a country that discriminated heavily against Czechs and Jews, during that time period, and he had trouble identifying with either of the three groups he was technically a part of (Germans, Czechs, and Jews). He had similar conflicts within his own family, and it was all just pretty terrible for him. Hence, his writing.

Saturday is really good. You’ll probably like it a lot. The main character is a neurosurgeon, lolol.

I started reading Siddhartha in October and I still haven’t finished, because I didn’t have enough time and now I forgot everything and would have to restart. And I don’t want to. But I finished Crime and Punishment a few weeks ago. Eeeexcellent. I’m reading Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, now, and it’s so so so good. It’s probably the best-written book I’ve ever read. But the subject matter is disgusting.

I think that asking about kangaroos in Australia is something like asking about polar bears in Canada. No, seriously, I’ve been asked if I have to evade polar bears when going to school. And I live three hours from the effing border.

TWILIGHT IS GARBAGE. And the movie was like soft-core porn, haha.

I bet “John '12” is the same John who gave Emily’s tour. Omg hot guyzzz.

This post is too long.

I’m friends with “Elihu Yale” on Facebook, and someone asked them when the supplement would be out, and they were like “Soon, if it isn’t already!” but they said that two weeks ago. TWO WEEKS AGO.

smile, same thing with me! I went through the whole craze with the books before everyone else. But I went to see the movie opening day anyway, lots of screaming girls- especially when carlisle came out. But I couldn’t stop laughing cause the whole thing was so friggin dramatic. I just think some poeple take it too seriously, it’s meant to be a guilty pleasure.

Vladimir Nabokov had synesthesia (as did Nathaniel Hawthorne!) both of whom I have huge respect for as writers (and fellow synesthetes).

Finish Siddartha, it’ll change your entire perspective on life, promise. The first chapter or so is hard to get through, but after that it’s amazing.

“TWILIGHT IS GARBAGE. And the movie was like soft-core porn, haha.”

took the words RIGHT outta my mouth. I couldn’t even get through the movie. My friends and I decided to give it a go, see what all the hype was about, but when one of my friends spontaneously snorted sprite out of her nose because of how horrible the movie was I was just like “that’s it, we’re done.”

By the way, I spilled soy sauce on my only piece of Yale apparel last night and I FREAKED out, my mom thought I was going insane, but it washed out perfectly, so I’m thinking this is a good omen ;)

wel i don’t love twilight (likes the books itself) i just love edward. just let me indulge shamelessly in my guilty pleasure =D

laanneeesssquee!! your still here =) have u been following this thread all along?

lol ya seriously, no polar bears, no igloos, and where i live it barely even snows (last few years have been wierd)

loved that episode! k i have a question: Dean, Jess, or Logan?
