2014 SCEA hopefuls?

I got over 750 for every score in the tests I’ve taken so far, except writing, in which I got a 730. It just… annoys me beyond belief. The stupid test doesn’t even consider writing ability, it just involves jumping through silly hoops and ugh.

dude, chill, you are absolutely fine, do you have a chance thread somewhere? I can look at it, like I have a clue, but I can look at it, and give you my opinion. I am an extreme optimist though, FYI. :-)

I do, actually: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/yale-university/726877-so-how-do-i-stand.html

It’s under a different username because I suspected that people I know in real life had caught wind of my presence on CC, and I wanted to have some semblance of privacy. That username has been banned, though, haha, so I can’t post with it anymore.

Do you have one? I generally avoid chances threads because I’m realizing more and more that “chances” are sort of irrelevant. Every year, excellent candidates get rejected, while less qualified ones get accepted. I’ll still look at yours though, haha.

That’s so cool that you know all those languages! I know English, Arabic, Spanish, and I want to learn Latin, but I haven’t started yet lol.
Haha, I’ve been thinking the ACT as well, since I heard that the ACT is better suited for math/science people while the SAT is more writing/literature based. Can anyone attest to these claims?

From what little I’ve seen of the ACT, it appears to test actual, legit knowledge, while the SAT does a better job of assessing how well you’ve mastered little ridiculous test-taking strategies. I feel like this difference is especially noticeable in the math sections of the two tests. Whereas the SAT will ask a simple question in a way that makes it seem extremely complicated and ridiculous, the ACT will be more direct, and in that sense it is easier for math/science people.

I’d say that both tests focus on similar things (except that the ACT has a science section), and it’s really just the style that differs. But that’s a somewhat uninformed perspective, so don’t take my word for it.

That makes sense to me. I do agree with you, that the SAT just tests your test taking strategies rather than the actual material. Also, in my English class we did a practice ACT essay, and it’s a lot different than the SAT (the essay is based on logical arguments rather than historical/literary examples). Well I’m just happy to be done with anything SAT related! :)

haha i just skimmed this thread, all of yall sound really cool
lets hope some of us ends up at YALE next fall =]
even though i know i’ll like whatever school i end up at…

SO crazy that we’re actually applying to college this year…but i’m excited!

yeah, i have a few ideas for my commonapp essays but once i write it and read it over, they don’t seem as great as i thought they would be. i think i need to work on the “voice” part
i’m aiming for an inspiring essay with a bit of humor thrown in
and like someone else mentioned earlier…i get all my ideas and best writing at like 1am!!

came up with a resume sorta thing the other day…just listing my ECs and awards and stuff and man, compared to some of the people on CC…none of my ECs/awards are that great…

rockermrc/melody224-you guys are so beyond me, I really admire people that speak lots of languages…that is way cool.
I have not done a “chance me thread” b/c I am kind of easily identifiable I guess you can say. :)-i can PM you, rockermrc, and give you my stats. I agree it really isn’t a sure thing for anyone. Let me know if you want to chance me, and I’ll send my info.

You could PM me your stats, if you like.

My feelings kind of change by the day. Some days, I feel like I’ll get in, others I feel like I won’t. Heh.

here. im so not getting in but its worth a shot, cuz of affirmative action.

I pm’ed you my stats, easier to see on the link I gave you. Keep it on the DL. I am pretty careful about safety stuff.
Thanks so much!!

I understand, haha.

This is probably the busiest summer I’ve ever had. I remember last summer, when I decided I’d focus on college apps this summer. Doesn’t look like that’s happening.

Thanks again rockermcr!

No problem, you really don’t have much to worry about. I can easily see you getting accepted. You have a lot of “what they look for.”

rockermcr–haha that’s what I told myself last summer. Now there’s only a month left before school starts and i havent done much of anything. Except for tons of shopping. hmmm. there’s definitely something wrong with this picture.

smile614
shopping is a great stress reliever. I have not completed my first essay, I am still trying to decide which schools to eliminate from my list, I have ten I am contemplating applying to and I am afraid that is too many to put my heart into. I have some family friends/alums from specific colleges offering to help me, so I feel obligated to at least apply to their respective colleges-ahhhhhh. Has any one had this issue? They can’t imagine why I wouldn’t just early decision their school and be done with it, but some of these just aren’t great fits for me, although awesome schools. This is a little touchy trying to tell them how much I appreciate their awesome support, but not really wanting to apply to those schools. Suggestions?

2010emily-it certainly is! too bad it takes up so much time (for me at least hahah) so i told myself I’m not shopping until August. and only if i get a good start on my essays. so i’ve been laying out by my friend’s pool aloooot. at least you can write essays and read while you do that! haha much more academic right? plus you get a good tan. =]

i’m trying to eliminate schools from my list too…haha but the list is not getting any shorter. there’s something about each school that i like and i just can’t get myself to eliminate it.

i would just apply to the schools that YOU want to apply to. just explain to them how even though it’s a great school…it isn’t a great fit for you or how it doesnt have the major/program you want. i think they’d understand!

I’m from Canada. There is absolutely no pressure to apply anywhere in the US for me. I have it easy.

I am naturally tan. It makes up for the fact that I haven’t had the chance to get a legit tan yet.

Haha oh dear, I have a horrible farmer’s tan from tennis =/ And last year I had a great tan but I went to China, and it’s completely un-chic to be tan there so I really stood out, especially when shopping haha! Girls carry fancy parasols everywhere to keep from getting tan >.<

Haha I am the exact opposite in terms of shortening lists! I’m usually not picky about anything but it’s difficult to compare other schools to Yale, so my list is too short right now :P

Wouldn’t it be fun if we all met up at Yale in the fall? :D

So, kids, I just finished starting the essay that will hopefully get me into Yale.
