<p>What did you all think about the Opening Ceremonies? I thought they were amazing. Have you seen any events? My favorite would have to be figure skating.</p>
<p>Yay, I was waiting for a thread about the Olympics to open up! I always find the Olympics so inspiring- these athletes literally have been training for YEARS in order to get to the Olympics. It’s amazing.</p>
<p>I missed some of the opening ceremony, but caught the end of it, and really liked it! I’m actually watching hockey right now, which is awesome, despite the fact that I normally don’t watch hokey. I watched figure skating earlier, which is my favorite event to watch, and was totally blown away. The US pair was just phenomenal! </p>
<p>It’s funny, I watch the Winter Olympics and not the Super Bowl.
I watch a lot of the winter sports, except perhaps curling. I’m really interested in how the Mao Asada vs. Yuna Kim will play out. I saw that Asada fell in her short skate for the team in her triple axel.</p>
<p>I loved the Olympic Ceremonies! I’m no fan of Russia’s present homophobic policies, but I think the Russian people are getting way more flack than they deserve in a pretty jingoistic manner. (This is mostly online stuff though, the TV coverage in Canada is great)</p>

-Russia is a joke, they are way behind. There is no reason they should have gotten the Olympics and they’ve shown us why
-The way these places are being chosen for the Olympics and the World Cup seriously needs to be redefined. Clearly not every country deserves it
-The Olympics doesn’t even try to target sports fans at all</p>
<p>I’m watching the luge practice runs right now. I have to say that figure skating is the one with the most “pressure” since I think it’s the one most people get hyped up about. I love watching the Olympics!</p>

<p>The fact that the fifth ring failed to open and that Russian media tried to cover it up by editing the TV broadcast is indicative of Russia’s censorship…</p>
<p>I also don’t get why Russia had to build the Olympics stadiums etc in Sochi; why couldn’t they have gone back to Moscow or something? I know that the Olympics has taken place in Moscow before but that would be better than being so unprepared for an event of such massive importance…turns out this winter olympics is the most expensive out of all our past ones.</p>
<p>Although I can’t say that I’m shocked.</p>
<p>lol yeah… it doesn’t even properly snow in Sochi. It snows a lot in Moscow, yet they held the summer olympics there. like what.</p>

Personally, I don’t get the whole “Asada Mao vs Yuna Kim” thing.
imho Mao’s amazing, but she doesn’t really compare to Yuna… but that’s just me so w/e.</p>

They’re never very good at picking places for the Olympics.</p>
<p>Ah, yeah. Especially with skaters such as Julia Lipnitskaia and Gracie Gold in the mix, I’m not too sure now that Asada Mao and Yuna Kim will be separated by only one medal place. But they have technically been childhood rivals, which is why people talk about it. I’m kind of frustrated by how Asada insists on attempting the triple axel, because she hasn’t been able to land one since 2012, at least in competitions. </p>
<p>That said, I support Team Japan because I’m Japanese lol. I watch the Olympics in Japanese, since I only watch news in Japanese. So obviously they show a lot of Japanese athletes. Yuzuru Hanyu was amazing.</p>
<p>I support US Women’s Hockey team though. XP </p>
