2006 Winter Olympics

Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics tonight! I'm pretty excited, anybody else? What are your guys favorite events to watch? I like the skeleton and luge and secretly hope I get to try one day...

I like the bobsleding/speed skating

Oooh yeah, my personal favorite part is the figure ice skating.

I'm not really good, but I remember going on the rink once, and this was like my 2nd time ever so of course I was slipping, but there were 2 asian kids, like a 4 year old girl, 5 year old boy, and they were both amazing!! They were in the middle doing all the twirls and such, and were soo small but good . . and the parents kept yelling stuff to them, making sure they perfected every technique. I kinda wish my parents got me involved in something when I was really young.. watch, i bet both of them are going to be super good by the time they get to high school. They probably started teaching them since they could first walk.

But here's an interesting article concerning a US Skeleton Star, Chris Lund
here, he was banned even though he wasn't on any steroids :(

It is sad that so many athletes have been banned once they've arrived in torino. But I personally think they had to ban him because if one's hemoglobin levels are high due to anything (steroids, dehydraton, anthing else) your blood can clot and you can die. It is unfortunate but necessary.

I love watching figure skating too. I used to skate until I moved to cali... and the nearest rink was 3 hours away.
I'm also kind of excited to see the men's downhill. I don't like skiing but it was really fun to watch the time trials yesterday before the opening ceremonies (which were awesome, not quite at the level of sydney, but awesome).

I can't remember who said this, but they said "americans have a love affair with the olympics"
I agree and I most certainly do. I'm never going to finish all my hw in time.

Hockey!!!!!!!

alpine skiing and speed skating all the way

freestyle skiing and speed skating

Ice and speed skatinggg (so much scandal in that one last time).

figure skating!

'cause i'm a skater :D

Hockey is always good. Yes, I'm Canadian at heart!! ;

I also like watching figure skating and aerial skiing (with all the cool flips).

Short track starts tomorrow at 7PM CST.

People mix up short track with speed skating, a lot.

Figure skating is exciting as well. I was looking forward to watch Mao Asada, but apparently she's too young?

I guess skiing and skating.

I was thinking of buying tickets and going down next week, might be interesting. Apparently there are still some for sale.

whose on team USA hockey (mens)

olympics=muy aburrido

ligisticswuzard = nerdo

I find that I watch everything for the sole fact because it is the Olympics, and because it is the Olympics, it makes everything exciting.

Take ski jumping.

Incredibly boring, but AMAZING because look at those Scandinavians fly over the mountain like that. I must watch. And then it's like Survivor or something when you pick someone you want to win, and then keep watching to see if they do.

Yeah, I find myself watching a lot of sports I normally wouldn't if it wasn't the olympics. I also like when they do the profiles of the athletes lives and you get to hear all about what they sacrificed to achieve their goals and how important it is for them to be in the olympics.

Anybody see the opening ceremonies last night? I always find them a little boring but I thought the dove thing was pretty cool. And the ferrari too!

Me and my dormmates thought it would have been cool if the ferrari had made the five rings with skid marks... but it t'was good. I liked the people who made the colorful athlete (skier-> snowboarder-> luger etc.)
And I always love the opening sweeping shots of the city and the mountains piece NBC puts together. love it

Tawny- who are you for in the ladie's figure skating?

figure skating!
go michelle kwan....her last chance 2 win the gold

I don't know, I wish Michelle Kwan wasn't competing this year. Realistically, she didn't earn the spot, I don't think they should make exceptions regardless of the athlete's popularity. Especiallly since Michelle Kwan isn't fully healed. I heard she wasn't doing very well at practice today...I hope she gives the other girl a chance to experience the Olympics.
