Congrats to the CS majors that already got accepted (and everyone else accepted for that matter!)! I also wanted to say to everyone who has not heard yet back not to lose hope, they do the acceptances in waves and it is certainly based on more than just GPA. It seems, too, that the admissions committee gives some sort of preferential treatment to those who have applied before and have continued to increase their gpa, overall completion, etc. It’s definitely true what they say about watching for a positive academic trend.

I was fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of the Fresh Start program; I took classes over 10 years ago that I bombed and wasn’t in the right mindset to be taking them at the time. But since I have increased my GPA and focused on math/science, which they say is vital for any major in CNS.

Congrats everyone! Ok so I’ve been a downer all day, got denied about 9am this morning pretty upset, looks like I’ll be at Texas State. My GPA according to UT was 3.4, nursing and UGS. Have 7 years of nursing assistance experience, 3 essays, tons of volunteer/community help. I’m not really sure what to do to get in. I’ve taken all of my pre-reqs that I can take outside of UT. I guess I should retake the only 2 bad grades on my transcript?! Also, should I apply for summer, or wait a while? I’m so lost

@utnurse2be-
Don’t feel bad, I got rejected last year. Just keep up the good work! UT is a very competitive school, regardless of the major. If your dream is to go to UT, take more classes next semester and get A’s! They love to see improvement! I applied for a bunch of scholarshps and got a few, I’m more than confident that helped my application. It’s not all about GPA, but more of your impact on your community and peers; if your goal is to go to UT, try again!

Thanks wannabeatUT, I really appreciate it! I will for sure reapply, and I’m hoping to finish this semester with all A’s and 1 B. I’m taking 23 hours, literally! And I work full time so I’m pretty much doing all I can to keep my grades up. I’m thinking maybe I’ve just taken too many hours idk. I think I have like 49 right now. Anyway is there another major I should put as my second like social work, or … Idk, just something not so competitive just to get in?! And would admissions be totally upset if I asked them why, or can they even tell me why I wasent admitted? Of course with the only purpose of figuring out what I can change to get in.

Definitely, try until they wise up! UT is an excellent school, and they love Texas natives and overall smart people. I know their nursing program is competitive; they have UTMB here in Houston. Always find something good in everything negative and you’ll always have an advantage!

Does anyone know what it’s like to switch majors within the same college? Like mathematics to physics? I got in for math but not for physics. I want to major in physics. Lol. I don’t think it would be hard but I need some insight.

Utnurse2b, keep applying! I know a friend that applied with 70-something credits and got accepted! You still have some chances. Take courses that somehow relate to your major and get those A’s!

Switching majors requires filling out an application and you can’t do that until you’ve had one semester at UT within that college. Also a minimum of 2.5 GPA. You’ll be stuck in math for one whole semester, unfortunately.

Y’all are so awesome! The support here is just over the top! I cannot wait to go to school with y’all! I called admissions this morning, and the guy said they took 3.6 and up… then depending on the major went down from there. So time to start chugging away on more classes!

Good job guys and the ones who didn’t we will get there! Have a great spring guys!

@utnurse2b - I actually had over 70 hours to transfer as well, taken over a 6 year period. I was originally concerned thinking that they wouldn’t like that I was a part-time student, but it seems that as long as you keep your grades up they realize this isn’t 1970 and that not everyone can go to school full time straight from high school. Good luck with your classes–23 hours? Wow, that’s impressive.

baylorgal - Keep your hopes up, last year decisions were sent out into December! If you haven’t been denied yet that means you’re still in the running!

DeeGeeErbear, how is the application process like? Is it easy to switch within the same college? I could work with one semester. I’m pretty sure I can take physics courses as a “math elective” and when I switch they’ll automatically fill my major requirements. Plus, I need one or two upper level math courses for physics.
